UN aid chief warns of ‘potentially apocalyptic’ spread of Gaza war to Lebanon
Martin Griffiths described Lebanon as “the flashpoint beyond all flashpoints”, especially its southern border with Israel which has seen daily cross-border violence since the October 7 Hamas attack on Israel.
“It’s beyond planning. It’s potentially apocalyptic,” warned Griffiths whose term as UN humanitarian coordinator ends this week.
A war involving Lebanon “will draw in Syria… it will draw in others”, he told reporters in Geneva. “It’s very alarming.”
Germany on Wednesday echoed a Canadian warning from the day before, urging their citizens in Lebanon to leave the country.
The UN’s Griffiths spoke as witnesses reported intense fighting between Israeli troops and Palestinian militants in Gaza’s southern city of Rafah, amid the fears of a wider war.
However, Israeli bombardment in Gaza appeared to ease days after Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said the war’s “intense phase” was nearing its end, and as his defence minister was in Washington.
“Another war between Israel and Hezbollah could easily become a regional war, with terrible consequences for the Middle East,” US Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin told his visiting Israeli counterpart, Yoav Gallant.
Top Israeli officials, including the premier, have indicated openness to a diplomatic resolution of the Lebanon border tensions, though Gallant said Israel should be ready for “every possible scenario”.
Israel’s military said last week plans for a Lebanon offensive had been “approved and validated”, prompting new threats from Hezbollah chief Hassan Nasrallah.
In Rafah, on Gaza’s border with Egypt, witnesses reported overnight clashes, and Israel’s military said warplanes struck a rocket launch site….
US expanding bioweapons research in Africa – Russia
The US is expanding its biological military presence across Africa, Russian Lieutenant General Igor Kirillov claimed on Tuesday. According to the head of Russia’s Nuclear, Chemical and Biological Protection Forces, the move comes after Russia halted the implementation of similar programs in former Ukrainian territories.
“Because Russia has managed to halt the implementation of biological warfare programs in Ukraine’s liberated territories, the Pentagon is forced to transfer incomplete research under Ukrainian projects to other regions,” Kirillov alleged.
He highlighted Africa as a new zone of interest for the US Defense Department and related agencies.
The general mentioned the presence of Pentagon contractors in several African countries, including the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Sierra Leone, Cameroon, Uganda, and South Africa.
Bolivia armed forces mobilize in La Paz as coup fears rise
LA PAZ, June 26 (Reuters) – Bolivian President Luis Arce denounced the “irregular mobilization” of some army units in La Paz on Wednesday and former leader Evo Morales accused a top general of plotting a coup.
Heavily armed soldiers and armored vehicles were seen gathering in the capital’s central Plaza Murillo, according to videos shared on social media.
“The three chiefs of the armed forces have come to express our dismay. There will be a new cabinet of ministers, surely things will change, but our country cannot continue like this any longer,” General Juan Jose Zuniga told a local TV station.
Morales, who has publicly split with Arce although both belong to the same socialist movement, announced a national mobilization of his supporters to back democracy.

U.S. Space Command Gears Up for Potential Space War with Russia

Morrell’s request for prepublication review was approved in just six hours by the CIA.

“We are here today because of the double standard that exists within the justice system. As you know, on February 27, the Oversight Committee, as well as the House Judiciary, had sent a subpoena to Attorney General Garland, of which we received no response, and after referring him for criminal contempt within 48 hours or less, the Department of Justice refused to prosecute. Inherent contempt is clearly within our Article One authority, and Congress does have the power to investigate all legislative powers.
Investigations are part of our legislative process, and people who interfere with these processes should be held accountable. Inherent Contempt was first used in 1795, and this was further upheld in a Supreme Court decision in 1927 and McGrain versus Doherty, which stated that Congress does indeed have this authority. It’s important to note that when an individual is called before courts across the country, they appear.
Why should the attorney general, who is supposed to be head of all law enforcement authorities, be any different? Garland still has time to comply with this request. We are asking that he bring the tapes to the house and let us listen to them, but in the event that he does not, we will press forward with calling the privilege motion on Inherent Contempt to the floor on Friday morning.
It is also important to note that if we as a Congress do not have the ability to enforce our investigative ability that we are essentially going to be ignored and undercut, and essentially handicapped by all other branches, which would make us not a co-equal branch of government.
I would appreciate that the press report on this accurately, that Congress again, does have the authority to do this, that the attorney general is not above the law, and ultimately, we will be pressing forward with this.
This is something that, again, would enable the Speaker of the House to order the Sergeant of Arms to take into custody the attorney general if he fails to comply with our request.”…

African attacker dies in botched bombing of Arab-owned restaurant in Germany
One person has died and four others were injured after an African man detonated an explosive device outside a restaurant in the German city of Solingen on Tuesday.
The incident occurred shortly after 2 p.m. outside residential and commercial premises on Konrad-Adenauer-Straße in the North Rhine-Westphalia city.
German news outlet Junge Freiheit reported the targeted restaurant was an independent chain owned by a large Arab family and the perpetrator was of African origin.

DNC spent millions with 2 law firms having deep ties to Trump lawfare
According to the outlet, the DNC has paid $2 million to Kaplan Hecker & Fink LLP and “several” millions to Wilmer Cutler Pickering Hale and Dorr LLP, all just in the last three years. The DNC claimed these payments were for “legal services,” according to its FEC filings.
Prior to 2021, the DNC had no relationship with Kaplan Hecker & Fink LLP, which was founded in 2017 with the mission of establishing a law firm “rooted in principles of equity, integrity, and justice.”
Then, about a year ago, founding partner Roberta A. Kaplan represented E. Jean Carroll in a civil case in which Carroll accused the former president of sexually assaulting her in department store dressing room in the mid-1990s.
Another Kaplan Hecker & Fink LLP partner, Joshua Matz, represented the House Judiciary Committee in Trump’s first impeachment trial, the Daily Caller reported. Matz also participated in the second Trump impeachment.
In addition to Kaplan Hecker & Fink LLP, the DNC likewise gave several million to Wilmer Cutler Pickering Hale and Dorr LLP for “legal services” in the past three years, more than $2 million between 2021 and 2022 alone, FEC filings show.
Wilmer Cutler Pickering Hale and Dorr LLP has filed multiple amicus briefs in the federal case against Trump regarding the 2020 election and January 6.
The Daily Caller also noted that several former Wilmer Cutler Pickering Hale and Dorr LLP members, including Secretary Mayorkas and Ambassador to Mexico Ken Salazar, have since become high-profile members of the Biden administration. Mass Arrest in California Hells Angels Criminal Investigation, Probe Ongoing

The Department of Homeland Security has identified over 400 immigrants who have come to the U.S. from Central Asia and elsewhere as “subjects of concern” because they were brought by an ISIS-affiliated human smuggling network, three U.S. officials tell NBC News.
While over 150 of them have been arrested, the whereabouts of over 50 remain unknown, the officials said, and Immigration and Customs Enforcement is looking to arrest them on immigration charges when they are located.

Nearly half of American EV owners want to switch back to gas-powered vehicle, McKinsey data shows
McKinsey & Co.’s Mobility Consumer Pulse for 2024, released this month, found that 46% of EV owners in the U.S. said they were “very” likely to switch back to owning a gas-powered vehicle in their next purchase.
The high percentage of Americans who want to make a switch even surprised the consulting firm.
“I didn’t expect that,” the head of McKinsey’s Center for Future Mobility, Philipp Kampshoff, told Automotive News. “I thought, ‘Once an EV buyer, always an EV buyer.'”
In the poll of nearly 37,000 consumers worldwide, Australia was the only country with a greater percentage, 49%, of EV owners than the U.S. who said they were ready to return to owning an internal combustion engine.
The other countries included in the survey were Brazil, China, France, Germany, Italy, Japan and Norway. Across all countries surveyed, the average share of respondents who want to ditch their EVs was 29%.
