The U.S. State Department has approved the potential sale of long-range missiles and rockets to Poland in a deal valued at up to $10 billion, the Pentagon said on February 7.

The sale comes as Kyiv praised U.S.-made High Mobility Artillery Rocket Systems (HIMARS) rocket launchers for battlefield successes such as destroying Russian warehouses and command posts.

The package includes 18 HIMARS launchers, 45 Army Tactical Missile System (ATACMS) missiles, and more than 1,000 Guided Multiple Rocket Launch System (GMLRS) rockets. Poland would not be able to transfer any of its ATACMS to Ukraine without approval from the United States. To read the original story by Reuters, click here.

Biden’s IRS plans to crack down on waiters’ tips

“Those 87,000 new IRS agents that you were promised would only target the rich…” Mike Palicz, the federal affairs manager at Americans for Tax Reform, tweeted. “They’re coming after waitresses’ tips now.”

Among the program’s features, the agency lists “monitoring of employer compliance based on actual annual tip revenue and charge tip data from an employer’s point-of-sale system, and allowance for adjustments in tipping practices from year to year.”

It also states that participating employers would provide the IRS with annual reports, would receive protection from liability related to “rules that define tips as part of an employee’s pay” and would have the flexibility to implant internal tip reporting procedures “in accordance with the section of the tax law that requires employees to report tips to their employers.”

Videos showed protesters chanting “this is our house,” and “protect trans kids,” and holding signs that read, “Protect trans rights” and “My body, my freedom,” outside the Capitol building and inside the rotunda.

“Minors can’t vote, can’t purchase alcohol, can’t purchase cigarettes. We shouldn’t allow a minor to get a permanent gender-altering surgery in Oklahoma,” the Republican governor said on the House floor, prompting a standing ovation from Republican lawmakers.

The demonstrators were protesting against Senate Bill 129, or the Millstone Act, which would prohibit Oklahoma doctors from providing gender transition procedures or referral services relating to such procedures to individuals younger than 26.

Republican state Sen. David Bullard said he chose the age of 26 due to scientific findings that say the brain does not fully develop and mature until the mid- to late 20s, according to a press release.

Canadian spy registry must be culturally sensitive

The Canadian Press / Adrian Wyld

‘To deal with threats to national security, we need agencies to be inclusive, diverse and culturally sensitive so Canadians can have trust and confidence that as we are taking actions to mitigate against threats to national security they believe we are consistently going to act in the national interest,’ said Public Safety Minister Marco Mendicino.

Public Safety Minister Marco Mendicino made the remarks about viewing spies through a careful cultural lens while testifying at the House of Commons Special Committee on Canada-China Relations.

House Judiciary Committee Chairman Jim Jordan, R-Ohio, created the subcommittee that he also chairs. The hearing is set for Thursday at 12:00 p.m.

The first panel will include testimony from Sen. Chuck Grassley, R-Iowa, and Sen. Ron Johnson, R-Wis. The two senators have teamed together in high-profile investigations involving the FBI, Justice Department, Hunter Biden, Big Tech and more.

Former Rep. Tulsi Gabbard, D-Hawaii, who has been critical of the government for activities that have allegedly undermined freedom of speech, will join Johnson and Grassley on the first panel.

The second panel will feature George Washington University Law Professor Jonathan Turley, who will focus on censorship in the United States; former FBI agent Thomas Baker, who will speak to the need for an independent bureau; and former FBI agent Nicole Parker, who left the bureau after believing it had become weaponized for political purposes.

Top law enforcement group comes out swinging against anti-police Biden nominee

Gigi Sohn (Pete Marovich/Pool/Getty Images)

EXCLUSIVE: The nation’s top group representing sheriffs urged top Democratic and Republican lawmakers to oppose President Biden’s beleaguered nominee for the Federal Communications Commission (FCC).

The National Sheriffs’ Association (NSA) said Gigi Sohn, whom Biden renominated for a vacant FCC seat last month after her nomination stalled in 2022 over concerns about her views, has promoted “alarming” statements about law enforcement.

They noted that Sohn has used her Twitter account to like and retweet posts from Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, D-N.Y., arguing in favor of defunding the police. The letter added that Sohn once liked a “troubling” tweet that suggested “a few bad cops” should represent all cops.

Sohn has also faced criticism for once sharing a tweet saying former President Donald Trump was a “raggedy white supremacist president” and sitting on the board of an organization opposed to anti-sex trafficking laws.

And Sohn has been a vocal proponent of net neutrality. The Chamber of Commerce, the nation’s largest business industry group, has warned of Sohn’s “extreme views” and reiterated its call for the Senate to reject her nomination in January.

Black Republican slams Dems for saying GOP pushes ‘white nationalism’

The second hearing for the Oversight Committee in the 118th Congress on Tuesday zeroed-in on handling of migration at the southern border – it was the second hearing focusing on the migration crisis, coming just one week after the Judiciary hearing on the same topic.

Chairman James Comer of Kentucky defended the hearing, noting that the powerful Oversight Committee’s job is to make sure Congress is addressing issues properly, and that the hearing Tuesday is the first time the panel is hearing from government workers responsible for securing the border.

Republicans said that while Biden ‘won’t talk about the crisis at our southern border’ during Tuesday evening’s State of the Union address, the Oversight Committee would address it in their hearing earlier in the day.

Democrats, however, accused the GOP-led hearing of ‘amplifying white nationalism.’

Disinformation experts to be deployed in EU offices globally to counter Russian fake news: Borrell

Experts in disinformation are to be deployed to European Union offices worldwide to counter false narratives spread by malignant actors including Russia and China, the bloc’s top diplomat said on Tuesday.

“All our delegations will be equipped with experts on countering disinformation in many parts of the world in order to make our voice be heard better,” Josep Borrell told a public conference on disinformation in Brussels.

He added that in recent years Russia’s spending to boost its ability to create and disseminate so-called fake news to further its agenda has massively outpaced European investments to counter such interference.

In response, he said, the EU and like-minded partners should create a standardised and interoperable way of sharing data and analysis of foreign disinformation campaigns but also engage more with authorities worldwide to ensure the EU’s voice is heard.
