Fraternity brothers protected the American flag when protesters tried tearing it down — now donations are pouring in

Fraternity brothers are pelted by anti-Israel protesters at UNC Chapel Hill while protecting the United States flag as it is re-hoisted following its removal by protesters.

On Tuesday, anti-Israel protesters at the University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill took down the American flag that prominently flies on the university’s Quad and replaced it with a Palestinian flag.

Interim chancellor Lee Roberts later personally restored the American flag, but protesters repeatedly targeted the flag before police officers installed a barrier around the flagpole.

At one point, fraternity brothers were photographed and videoed holding Old Glory to ensure it never touched the ground.

The incident went viral and someone eventually started a GoFundMe campaign to “throw ’em a rager.” The GoFundMe identified brothers from Pi Kappa Phi, Alpha Epsilon Pi, and Pi Kappa Psi as those who helped defend the flag.

“Commie losers across the country have invaded college campuses to make dumb demands of weak University Administrators,” the GoFundMe says. “But amidst the chaos, the screaming, the anti-semitism, the hatred of faith and flag, stood a platoon of American heroes. Armored in Vineyard Vines and Patagonia, fueled by Zyn and White Claws, these triumphant Brohemians protected Old Glory from the unwashed Marxist horde — laughing at their shrieks and wails and shielding the Stars & Stripes from Soviet missiles.”

As of Thursday morning, the campaign has raised nearly $400,000, and donations continue to pour in.

Trump’s team again seeks dismissal of classified documents charges

Former President Donald Trump’s legal team on Thursday asked a federal judge to toss out the charges in the classified documents case in Florida for selective and vindictive prosecution.

“This case reflects the type of selective and vindictive prosecution that cannot be tolerated,” Trump’s defense team wrote in a 178-page motion filed in the Florida case.

In the motion, Trump’s team argues that he has been treated differently than Presidents Joe Biden, Bill Clinton; former Vice President Mike Pence; former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton; former FBI Director James Comey; Ret. Gen. David Petraeus; former National Security Advisor Samuel Berger; former Deputy Secretary of Defense John Deutch and Trump’s former White House Coronavirus Response Coordinator Deborah Birx.

“American history is chock full of public examples involving alleged mishandling of classified information and documents, which did not result in the type of politically motivated charges that the Special Counsel’s Office has brought against President Trump and his co-defendants,” Trump’s team wrote.

Trump’s defense attorneys said Trump was treated differently.

“Despite decades of similar conduct, no former president has been charged with the crimes the Special Counsel’s Office has alleged in this case,” they wrote in the motion. “Dozens of public officials have faced allegations relating to the handling of classified information without being charged with the types of felonies alleged [in this case.]”

Trump’s team also wants prosecutors to turn over all documents “reflecting political animus toward President Trump” including emails, text messages, and all electronic communications by members of the prosecution team, including on private devices and accounts.

Grassley demands answers about alleged abuse of unaccompanied minors

U.S. Sen. Chuck Grassley, R-Iowa, has launched a “sweeping review of potential abuse” of unaccompanied children (UACs) being brought into the U.S. and placed with sponsors or contracted facilities overseen by federal agencies responsible for their care.

Ongoing allegations of abuse persist, The Center Square has reported, with another recent federal audit showing how agencies within the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services continue to not properly vet sponsors or protect UACs’ safety and well-being.

The care of UACs falls under the Office of Refugee Resettlement (ORR), which is housed in HHS’ Administration for Children and Families.

ORR has placed UACs with non-vetted sponsors, including with gang members and non-family members, at nonresidential addresses, federal Inspector General audits and a Florida grand jury found.

HHS also contracts with nongovernmental organizations to house and care for the UACs where alleged sexual abuse, sex trafficking and other crimes have been alleged, federal audits and investigations found.

Because the majority of HHS-contracted NGO facilities are operating in Texas, an advocacy organization, Alliance for a Safe Texas, has been calling on the Texas legislature to investigate. A recent Alliance report highlights years of allegations of abuse at several HHS-contracted facilities and the impact on local Texas communities.

Google Lays Off Hundreds from ‘Core’ Teams, Shifts Roles to India and Mexico

CNBC reports that tech giant Google has taken a significant step in restructuring its workforce, impacting its “Core” teams responsible for building the technical foundation behind the company’s flagship products and ensuring online safety.

The reorganization, announced through internal communications, has resulted in the layoff of at least 200 employees, with a substantial portion coming from engineering roles at the company’s Sunnyvale, California offices.

The reorganization is part of Google’s broader strategy to expand its global footprint and operate closer to key partners and developer communities in high-growth regions.

As a result, many of the eliminated positions from the Core teams will be replaced by corresponding roles in India and Mexico, where labor costs are lower than in the United States.

Major US law firm sues Students for Justice in Palestine for alleged support of Hamas ‘terrorist activities’

Nine survivors of the Oct. 7 terrorist attacks on southern Israel brought a federal lawsuit pointing to the escalating nationwide college protests broiling with antisemitism, arguing that National Students for Justice in Palestine (NSJP) and its parent organization are working in the United States “as collaborators and propagandists for Hamas.”

Through NSJP, AJP Educational Foundation Inc. – also known as American Muslims for Palestine (AMP) – allegedly “uses propaganda to intimidate, convince, and recruit uninformed, misguided, and impressionable college students to serve as foot soldiers for Hamas on campus and beyond,” according to the lawsuit filed on Wednesday in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern Division of Virginia, Alexandria Division.

The litigation, brought by major U.S. and global law firm Greenberg Traurig, alleges AMP “serves as Hamas’s propaganda division in the United States” and “was founded from the ashes of disbanded organizations created by senior Hamas officials after those organizations and related individuals were found criminally and civilly liable for providing material support to Hamas and other affiliated terrorist groups.”

The filing alleges that by using “threats, violence, and vocal support for ‘globalizing’ attacks against Jews and anyone who dares to support them,” the organizations “have intentionally instigated a mass culture of fear, threats, violence, and overt hatred to intimidate politicians and institutions for Hamas’s substantial benefit.”

The complaint also alleges that at the time it was filed, “AMP and NSJP are – among other things – coordinating the occupation of dozens of college campuses across the country to ‘force’ the American government and academia to bend to Hamas’s will.”

Sen. Tom Cotton takes aim at student loan forgiveness for anti-Israel agitators

The senator introduced The No Bailouts for Campus Criminals Act, a measure that would prevent so-called “bailouts” from being given to anyone convicted of federal or state crimes “related to the individual’s conduct at and during the course of a protest that occurs at an institution of higher education.”

Cotton told Fox News Digital in a statement, “Americans who never went to college or responsibly paid off their debts shouldn’t have to pay off other people’s student loans. They especially shouldn’t have to pay off the loans of Hamas sympathizers shutting down and defacing campuses.”

President Biden’s initial plan for student loan debt forgiveness was challenged in the court system and since then, his administration has opted to roll out more targeted forgiveness for various groups.

Cotton’s bill would prohibit anyone convicted of crimes during these – or any other protests – making them “ineligible for forgiveness, cancellation, waiver, or modification of certain Federal student loans.”

Under U.S. Department of Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas the agency responsible for securing the border used more than 50 airports worldwide to fly into the country more than 400,000 foreign nationals who are legally inadmissible.

According to documents the U.S. House Committee on Homeland Security obtained from DHS through a subpoena, DHS used more than 50 airports worldwide “to help process into the country more than 400,000 inadmissible aliens through the administration’s unlawful Cuban, Haitian, Nicaraguan, and Venezuelan (CHNV) mass-parole program.”

The parole program, launched in January 2023, was one of more than a dozen the committee identified as illegal and as evidence to impeach Mayorkas. Mayorkas was impeached by the Republican-led House in February. Last month, the Democratic-led Senate for the first time in history voted to dismiss the charges and not hold a hearing.

The committee first requested information from Mayorkas in April 2023 seeking details about how many foreign nationals were being flown into the country through the program. After receiving no response, the committee sent a subpoena for the information it requested last August. After recently obtaining the requested information, the committee released key findings of the data on April 30.

The video captures Sergio Alberto Vazquez, who is in his 70s, confronting the alleged deadbeats on Sunday outside his Mexican restaurant, Chekos,” in Austin, where he says one of them dragged him to the ground while another beat him.

Vazquez told Fox 7 Austin that the group — comprised of two females and one male — told him they were not going to pay their check, which prompted him to demand they leave the premises.

On their way out, the unruly group began smashing dishes, prompting Vazquez to take out his phone and follow them outside to snap a photo of their vehicle’s registration plate.

“And the guy he just came down from the car and started beating me,” Vazquez said.

The video shows Vazquez’s son and another customer trying to help as the violence unfolded outside the restaurant.

Leak: EU Governments Impose Bulk Scanning Orders on Encrypted Messaging Services

Yet another leaked document has emerged revealing details from the European Union policy regarding the implementation of the Child Sexual Abuse Regulation.

(That’s “chat control” – ultimately designed to allow for bulk scanning of all private communications under the guise of looking for illegal content.)

The latest leak, again first published by the Contexte website, is a working document from the current (Belgian) EU Presidency that concerns draft methodology and criteria for the risk categorization of services.

Things are moving fast over in Brussels, at least on this issue – the draft was published on April 10 to member delegations and was to be discussed as soon as five days later by the Law Enforcement Working Party.

But the direction things are moving, according to long-time “chat control” opponent and member of the European Parliament (MEP) Patrick Breyer, is towards “doubling down” on, by various means, control and/or suppress what he calls “services that allow people to protect themselves.”

Maricopa County and Arizona State Collaborate To Surveil Social Media and Censor “Misinformation”

The Arizona Secretary of State’s Office and the Maricopa County Recorder’s Office have been exposed as doing their best to team up with social media companies, non-profits, as well as the US government to advance online censorship.

This, yet another case of “cooperation” (aka, collusion) between government and private entities to stifle speech disapproved of by federal and some state authorities has emerged from several public records, brought to the public’s attention by the Gavel Project.

The official purpose of several initiatives was to counter “misinformation” using monitoring and reporting whatever the two offices decided qualified; another was to censor content on social platforms, while plans also included restricting discourse to the point of banning users from county-run accounts.

“Online harassment” was another target, and Maricopa County took it upon itself to “identify” – and then report to law enforcement.
