Twitter’s Community Notes fact checks CBP claim on migrant travel

Community Notes, or context added to posts by Twitter users, states below the CBP tweet:

“This statement by CBP is misleading as the federal government funds non-government organizations such as Catholic charities to assist in the travel, food, and shelter for illegal aliens and is coordinated by [the Federal Emergency Management Agency].”

The additional context also includes links addressing the CBP’s claim, such as a post from reporter Rebecca Brannon who said:

“Migrants have their travel coordinated with NGO’s [sic] like Catholic charities with the help from the federal government. I witnessed firsthand in Brownsville [Texas] the countless bus and flight tickets issued … after being processed.”

Horrific video shows nearly 40 teens viciously attacking off-duty Marines on Calif. beach

As they start walking up some steps, some in the group behind yell for them to “get the f–k outta here” — before one runs up from behind and sucker-punches the trailing serviceman.

After a brief hesitation, the Marine drops what’s in his hand and charges at his attacker, knocking him down.

Instantly, the mob swarms around him, throwing wild punches and screaming abuse. “Get that f—er! Get that f—er! F–k that f—er up!” one repeatedly shouts.

The attacked Marine and one of his pals are left crunched into the fetal position on the ground, their hands and arms covering their heads as the mob continues to kick, punch and stomp them.

“What’s good n–ger,” one of the group asks, as others call them “p—ies” and the initial sucker-punching thug pours a drink over one of them.

Sheriff – Florida Man Allegedly Tossed Gas on Victim and Set Him on Fire: Such Behavior ‘Will Never Be Tolerated’

Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office

Once the pair reportedly began having a verbal confrontation, the suspect identified as Earl Hargrove Jr. purchased some gas from the business.

He then allegedly poured the gasoline on the other man, then set him on fire. After the victim was rushed to a local hospital for treatment, he was listed in critical condition and suffering from life-threatening injuries, per the sheriff’s office.

“A verbal argument should never escalate to this level of violence. This suspect’s behavior is not only deplorable but will never be tolerated in our community. The suspect, in this case, is currently behind bars while we wait in anticipation for justice to be served,” Sheriff Chad Chronister stated.

Newly Released Jeffrey Epstein Documents Show Connections to More Celebrities — Irina Shayk, David Blaine, Tommy Mottola

Stephanie Keith/Getty Images

The new cache of e-mails, which was obtained by The Daily Mail as well as the Daily Beast, show Jeffrey Epstein met or planned to socialize with a wide spectrum of rich and powerful people in the worlds of politics, finance, and show business.

None of the celebrities named in the latest batch of documents is suspected of having ties to Epstein’s child-sex activities. However, many of the meetings — planned or otherwise — took place after Epstein pleaded guilty in 2008 to procuring a person under 18 for prostitution and felony solicitation of prostitution.

Magician David Blaine reportedly attended at least three dinners at Epstein’s house and was so chummy that Epstein’s assistant sent him a reminder of Blaine’s birthday.

Epstein’s schedule also included at least one appointment with Russian supermodel Irina Shayk, phone calls with Tommy Mottola, and get-togethers with Jeff Koons.

Abortion Advocates Brutally Assault Pro-Life People Outside Planned Parenthood

The horrible assault comes just days after news surfaced that a leftist man in Michigan who shot a pro-life grandma while she campaigned door to door against abortion will only receive community service for his crimes.

Meanwhile, churches and pro-life organizations across the world have been hit by a wave of arson, vandalism, threats and other crimes in the past few years.

LifeNews counted about 250 abortion-related attacks in 2022, including the shooting of an elderly pro-life woman in Michigan and ten arson/attempted arson attacks.

Attacks on Christian churches in the United States alone have almost tripled in the past four years, according to a December report from the Family Research Council.

Japan warns of ‘destructive measures’

With North Korea gearing up to launch a military spy satellite in the coming weeks, Japan’s Defense Ministry warned on Monday that it will take “destructive measures” against any projectile that threatens its territory.

North Korean leader Kim Jong-un unveiled the country’s first reconnaissance satellite earlier this month, and notified Japan’s Coast Guard on Monday that it would launch the spacecraft over the East China Sea.

Japan currently has a destroyer carrying SM-3 interceptors stationed in the East China Sea, and Patriot batteries on the Okinawa Islands. A Defense Ministry spokesman told reporters that the rocket will likely pass over these islands after launch, as was the case when North Korea sent an Earth-observation satellite into space in 2016.

Calgary police launch phone line for sex trade workers to report assaults, abuse

THE CANADIAN PRESS/Jeff McIntosh

Calgary police have a new way for sex workers to report violence and other safety concerns.

Called the Bad Date Line, it allows those in the sex trade to report harmful, violent or abusive customers.

A dedicated phone number and email address are available for people to report information to police in a less formalized way.

The info will be monitored by Calgary police officers in District 4, which covers the location of one of Calgary’s last prostitution strolls.

“Our intent with this initiative is to reduce barriers that may have prevented sex workers from reporting to police in the past and provide alternative options for them to report information to us.”

Police say the information will not be used to target sex workers and will instead be used to investigate perpetrators.

Libya Sentences 23 ISIS Members To Death

(Photo by FADEL SENNA/AFP via Getty Images)

Along with the 23 members who were sentenced to death, the appeals court in the western city of Misrata also sentenced 14 other ISIS members to life in prison, as well as one for 12 years in prison, six to 10 years, one to five, and six to three years.

Five people were acquitted by the court, and three others had died before their case had made it to the court.

The Libyan branch of the Islamic Sate had taken advantage of the chaos and warfare in the country following the 2011 uprising, which had toppled and killed longtime ruler Muammar Gaddafi.

In 2015, the Libyan group had attacked the Corinthia Hotel in Tripoli. In the attack, nine people were killed and dozens of Egyptian Christians were abducted and beheaded.

The deaths of the abducted Christians were featured in brutal propaganda films made by the ISIS.

The group seized the coastal city of Sirte after gaining territory in Benghazi, Derna, and Ajdabiya in eastern Libya. The group held the city until late 2016, during that time they had enforced harsh public moral regime, backed by brutal punishments.

NATO To Send More Troops To Kosovo As U.S. Says Pristina Suspended From Military Exercises

Polish KFOR members guard a municipal office in Zvecan in northern Kosovo on May 30.

NATO has decided to deploy 700 more troops to Kosovo to help stop violent protests in the north of the country and the United States canceled Kosovo’s participation in ongoing NATO exercises after clashes broke out between ethnic Albanian authorities and local ethnic Serbs.

NATO Secretary-General Jens Stoltenberg said on May 30 that in addition to sending 700 more troops, another battalion had been put on standby. Stoltenberg warned that NATO troops “will take all necessary actions to maintain a safe and secure environment for all citizens in Kosovo” after the clashes occurred on May 29.

About 30 members of its forces were injured, KFOR said in a statement.

Speaking in Oslo after talks with Norwegian Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Store, Stoltenberg condemned the violence, saying that “such attacks are unacceptable and must stop.”

NATO countries are in the middle of Arctic military manoeuvres, vowing on Tuesday to defend their newest member, Finland, which is hosting its first joint NATO exercise since becoming the 31st member of the Western alliance in April.

The addition of Finland doubles the length of the border NATO shares with Russia, which launched a large-scale invasion of another neighbour, Ukraine, in February last year.

Nearly 1,000 allied forces from the United States, Britain and Norway, and also from neighbouring Sweden, joined some 6,500 Finnish troops and some 1,000 vehicles for the Northern Forest exercise, Finland’s biggest modern-time land force drill above the Arctic Circle.

Drones Hit Moscow, Kyiv as War Escalates

Tuesday’s early morning raid targeted some of Moscow’s wealthiest areas including a western zone where Putin and the elite have residences. Two people were injured while some Russians in two lightly damaged apartment blocks were briefly evacuated, according to Moscow’s mayor.

Russia’s defense ministry said eight drones sent by Kyiv were shot down or diverted, though Baza, a Telegram channel with links to the security services, said more than 25 were involved.

Residents said they heard loud bangs followed by the smell of petrol. Some filmed a drone being shot down and a plume of smoke rising over the Moscow skyline.

Texas Approves Bill For Armed Guards At All Schools

The legislation calls for the posting of armed security officers at every Texas school and the provision of mental health training for certain district personnel. It also increases the state’s authority to compel school districts to develop active-shooter strategies.

After resolving their differences over the last week, both chambers granted their final approval to House Bill 3.

The Senate had removed the requirement for an armed person to be present on every school campus earlier in the session, but the requirement was reenacted during the bargaining process.

According to the statute, the required armed individual may also be a peace officer, school resource officer, school marshal, or an employee of the school district.

Watchdog groups criticize New York’s ‘cyber voting’ plan

Midnight Studio TH | Shutterstock.com

The proposal, filed by a group of Democratic lawmakers, calls for allowing New Yorkers who are members of the military serving overseas and people with disabilities to submit ballots for federal, state and local elections using “electronic absentee ballots” submitted by email.

Backers of the plan say it is aimed at preserving the right to a secret ballot for military members and people with disabilities, claiming their voting rights are compromised by the current process of requesting and submitting absentee ballots.

But in a letter to legislative leaders, the groups Reinvent Albany and Common Cause New York said they have “grave concerns” about the proposed legislation. They warned the move would “put the security of New York’s elections at high risk for cyber incidents, and undermine public confidence in election results.”

“At a time when election security and public confidence are under relentless attack, New York should not rely on insecure technology for voters that produces unprovable election results,” the groups wrote in the letter.

Rand Paul introduces alternative to Biden-McCarthy debt bill: ‘Get our fiscal house in order’

(Al Drago/Bloomberg via Getty Images / Getty Images)

Paul’s bill would raise the debt ceiling by just $500 billion, forcing Congress to act in the near future to address America’s debt problem with a more lasting solution. The bill would also impose automatic budget cuts to be imposed each year moving forward.

“Sixty percent of Americans say Congress should only raise the nation’s debt ceiling if it cuts spending at the same time. I would guess the Americans answering that poll meant real cuts in spending, not an annual increase of one percent above already bloated levels of COVID-19 spending,” Paul wrote in a statement.

“Bold actions must be taken to defeat our mounting national debt, and my conservative alternative to the Biden-McCarthy deal gives us a real opportunity to get our fiscal house in order,” he added.
