Two more Oath Keepers sentenced to prison over US Capitol attack
U.S. District Judge Amit Mehta on Friday sentenced Harrelson to four years in prison. Earlier on Friday, the judge imposed a prison sentence of eight and a half years for Watkins.
Harrelson was also found guilty of conspiring to prevent members of Congress from certifying President Joe Biden’s election win as well as tampering with documents and proceedings. Watkins was also convicted of conspiracy and obstruction of officers during the riots.
Watkins and Harrelson were acquitted of seditious conspiracy charges.
LA reinstates controversial zero bail policy as judge rules holding those who can’t pay is unconstitutional
Los Angeles Superior Court Judge Lawrence Riff granted a temporary injunction earlier this month stopping the city and county from requiring bail in a class action lawsuit that seeks to end cash bail.
The policy only impacts individuals arrested for misdemeanors and non-violent felonies.
“Those arrested for sexual offenses, domestic violence and offenses involving weapons will be exempt from the zero-bail policy,” ABC 7 reported. “Those with repeat offenses while out on no bail can be made subject to a cash payment.”
A recent study found California’s zero bail policies resulted in a spike in violent crime from repeat offenders in one county.
Suspects released without bail were rearrested on 163% more charges than those who posted bail, and they reoffended 70% more often. Those reoffenses resulted in felony charges 90% more often — and they were accused of three times as many violent crimes, according to the study.

Shen’s $20,000 bond was fronted by far-left activist Daniel Hanley.
The Atlanta Solidarity Fund, a project of 501(c)(3) nonprofit Network For Strong Communities, has been raising cash for Antifa and domestic terrorism suspects arrested since last year.
Shen graduated from Barnard College before working for Reuters and CNN. She is the daughter of a wealthy mainland Chinese pharma tycoon family.

The peer-reviewed paper, published in the Journal of Information Warfare’s Spring 2023 edition, stated that “New York State voters are assigned two identification numbers.
This study has discovered strong evidence that both numbers have been algorithmically manipulated to produce steganographically concealed record attribute information,” according to UncoverDC.
The study found that there are “hundreds of thousands of illegally generated registrations in the official NYXBOE voter rolls.
The exact number is unknown, but it is not less than about 338,000 for registrations active for the 2020 General Election (NYCA [New York Citizens Audit] 2022).
If other elections are included, the number of apparently illegal registrations jumps to between 1.2 and 2.4 million.”

FDA Approves Neuralink Human Brain Implant Trials
Elon Musk’s brain-implant company Neuralink said the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) had given the green light to its first-in-human clinical trial, a critical milestone after earlier struggles to gain approval.
The FDA nod “represents an important first step that will one day allow our technology to help many people,” Neuralink said in a tweet Thursday.
It did not elaborate on the aims of the study, saying only that it was not recruiting yet and more details would be available soon.
Musk envisions brain implants could cure a range of conditions including obesity, autism, depression and schizophrenia as well as enabling web browsing and telepathy.
He made headlines late last year when he said he was so confident in the devices’ safety that he would be willing to implant them in his children.
Special Counsel John Durham Will Testify Before House Judiciary Committee in June
Special counsel John Durham will testify before the House Judiciary Committee on June 21 to discuss his scathing report about the FBI’s decision to launch a full investigation into what turned out to be fake ties between President Donald Trump’s campaign and Russia during the 2016 election.
Sources confirmed Friday that Mr. Durham’s appearance in front of the GOP-led panel will come one day after he testifies before the House Intelligence Committee in a closed-door hearing.
Judiciary Committee Chairman Jim Jordan, Ohio Republican, invited Mr. Durham to testify within hours of the report’s release on May 15.

Russia says it discussed peace prospects for Ukraine with Chinese special envoy
(Reuters) -President Vladimir Putin told his Brazilian counterpart Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva in call on Friday that Russia was open to dialogue over Ukraine, the Kremlin said, shortly after Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov welcomed a Chinese peace envoy to Moscow.
Russia has repeatedly said it was open to resuming peace talks with Kyiv, which stalled a few months after Russia invaded Ukraine early last year, and has welcomed mediation efforts from both Brazil and China.
But it has insisted that any negotiations must be based on “new realities”, meaning its declared annexation of four Ukrainian provinces that it largely or partly controls – a condition unacceptable to Kyiv.
Medvedev: Ukraine Conflict May Last for Decades
A senior ally of President Vladimir Putin said on Friday the conflict in Ukraine could last for decades and that negotiations with Ukraine were impossible as long as Ukraine’s Western-backed President Volodymyr Zelenskyy was in power.
“This conflict will last for a very long time. For decades, probably. This is a new reality,” Russian Security Council Deputy Chairman Dmitry Medvedev was quoted as saying by Russian news agencies.
He said Russia could not trust any truce with the current rulers of Kyiv as the conflict would simply erupt again and so the very nature of the current government of Ukraine would have to be destroyed.
Negotiations, he said, with “the clown Zelenskyy” were impossible.
“Everything always ends in negotiations, and this is inevitable, but as long as these people are in power, the situation for Russia will not change in terms of negotiations.”
Medvedev also warned that the West was seriously underestimating the risk of a nuclear war over Ukraine, cautioning that Russia would launch a pre-emptive strike if Ukraine gets nuclear weapons.
Russia, which has the world’s largest nuclear arsenal, has repeatedly accused the West of waging a proxy war with Russia over Ukraine that could mushroom into a much bigger conflict.
Four Killed in Rare Shooting and Stabbing Rampage in Japan
Nakano police said they received a call on Thursday afternoon that a man chased a woman down and stabbed her with a foot-long knife.
“A woman came running from the road saying ‘help me’ and she fell down. Behind her came a man wearing camouflage and carrying a large knife, who stabbed her in the back,” said a 72-year-old eyewitness. The attacker then stabbed the woman in the chest.
“Why would you do such a thing?” the eyewitness asked. He said the camouflage-clad assailant replied: “I killed because I wanted to.”
The witness called for an ambulance while other onlookers tried to revive the woman, but they were unable to save her.

Tokoyo will freeze the assets of dozens of individuals and groups and ban exports to Russian military-related organisations, Chief Cabinet Secretary Hirokazu Matsuno said.
“As the world’s only country to have suffered nuclear attacks, Japan finds Russia’s threats of nuclear weapons and their use absolutely impermissible,” he said.
“Japan’s government demands Russia and Belarus stop actions that further escalate tensions as we continue to watch the development with strong concern.”
Wagner Head: Russia Lost Over 20,000 Fighters in Battle for Bakhmut

Mexican President Tells U.S. Hispanics Not to Vote for DeSantis

“I would tell every Black American who believes that the Democrats will come up with a policy that will solve all their problems, and that money will solve all of their problems, to dig into the history,” former Princeton professor, Dr. Carol Swain, told Fox News Digital. “Look at the people who are making those promises. Have they come through in the past? Why do you believe them now?”
The growing demand for reparations to atone for the harms of slavery is being led by politicians at the state and local level, with cities like Los Angeles, California; St. Louis, Missouri; Providence, Rhode Island; Asheville, North Carolina forming commissions to help create reparations pilot programs.
On a federal level, Rep. Cori Bush D-Mo., alongside several other progressive lawmakers, unveiled the Reparations NOW resolution last week, calling for $14 trillion in reparations for Black Americans.
Swain said Democrats are supporting reparations “not because they care about Black people,” but because they believe it will help them at the ballot box.
“The Democrats – this is what they do,” Swain said. “They see this as a way to get Black Americans all excited about 2024, believing that if they elect a Democrat president, that somehow that person will push it through Congress.”
“They promise the moon, they deliver nothing, and it’s more of the same,” she added.
