Florida convicted murderer released from prison charged in brutal slaying of missing young mom
A convicted murderer with a rap sheet of violent attacks against women was released from prison last year only to strike again, allegedly admitting that he stabbed a Florida mother to death who had been missing for weeks before the gruesome discovery of her body over the weekend, police said.
Eric Pierson, 54, was charged with first-degree murder Saturday just hours after the body of 33-year-old Erika Maria Verdecia, the mother of a young daughter who had been missing since Sept. 24, was found discarded in Davie canal in Sunrise, a city in central-western Broward County, Florida.
According to an arrest affidavit, Pierson allegedly admitted to detectives that he stabbed Verdecia with a screwdriver four times — twice in the neck and once in each eye – on Sept. 25, the South Florida Sun-Sentinel reported.
It wasn’t until the family did their own investigative work and discovered that Verdecia had been seen with Pierson that they said police finally reported her missing.
“How is the justice system OK?” The police didn’t want to report her missing but they have a killer in the street,” Carmen Verdecia said.

The three had been drinking together on Thursday night when Resendiz-Florez asked Jones for a kiss, which he refused — instead kissing his girlfriend.
Resendiz-Florez then also asked Jones’ girlfriend for a kiss, who also declined, prosecutors said at a bond hearing on Saturday.
Resendiz-Flores demanded that he kiss her again, which he again refused, infuriating her, prosecutors said, according to the Sun-Times.
House Sergeant at Arms’ asst. arrested on 10 child porn charges
Fairfax County Police Department (FCPD) announced Bieret’s arrest in a Thursday press release.
Bieret, 41, of Burke, Va., was subsequently identified as an employee in the House Sergeant at Arms office. According to Legistorm, a website that tracks congressional employment records, Bieret’s work for the House Sergeant at Arms began in 2004.
Bieret also worked for the U.S. Capitol Police, and had served in a civilian role in the agency’s Security Services Bureau from April 2019 to September 2020, a Capitol Police spokesperson told Roll Call.

President Joe Biden unsuccessfully lobbied Congress to pass legislation curtailing qualified immunity, a defense available to police in civil rights cases that is extremely difficult for plaintiffs to surmount.
Even as Biden advocates for reform, the government’s reliance on qualified immunity has continued unabated. And the administration has yet to pursue policy changes or tactical legal moves it could enact without Congress.
Arkansas officer shoots man who slashed his neck after beating teenage son with rock: ‘Unimaginable tragedies’
The responding officer to a 911 call discovered Christofer Conner beating a 15-year-old boy in the face and head with a rock, Baker said. Police in Fort Smith later determined the boy was Conner’s son.
As the officer tried to place Conner, 40, in restraints, the suspect pulled out an edged weapon and sliced the officer’s throat and neck, Baker said. The officer responded by firing his gun twice, killing Conner.
The 15-year-old boy was pronounced dead at a local hospital. He had sustained multiple stab wounds and other injuries, according to Baker.
Other officers at the scene went inside a home and discovered “evidence of an extremely violent attack,” Baker said. They found the body of 42-year-old Julia Marie Moore inside the residence. Authorities believe she was fatally stabbed.
