Would America survive a civil war?

Historically speaking, empires on average last for around 250 years, after which they tend to either slowly — or very, very quickly — fall apart due to overreach and internal conflict. Somewhat ominously, the 250th birthday of America is coming up in 2026.

None of this morbid interest in civil conflict is irrational, given the times. The year 2021 has thus far been a spectacular year for signs of political decline: the U.S. has now seen all the notable ‘horsemen of the apocalypse’ that historically herald strife and revolution appear, one after another. 

Political division among its elites, increasing loss of legitimacy in the eyes of the population, military defeat abroad, and a new and very ominous crisis in the real economy, with no end date in sight. 

Any one of these crises would be bad enough on their own; taken together, they represent a truly serious threat to the stability of the current order.

Still, the question to be answered at the end of the day is quite simple: how likely is civil war, or national divorce, or a ‘troubles scenario’ really? 

Student Reaches Plea Deal in Second Loudoun County Sex Assault Case

The 15-year-old high schooler found guilty last month of raping a classmate in a high school bathroom pled no contest to charges of abduction and sexual battery in a second assault case.

A local ABC News affiliate reported that the teen reached a plea deal on Monday in which he accepted the facts of the case but did not admit guilt. This is the teen’s second conviction.

Additional sex crime cases have rocked Loudoun County Public Schools in recent weeks. Police are investigating a boy at Harmony Middle School who allegedly groped peers in the hallway, the Washington Post reported Oct. 28. And on Nov. 4, police charged high school counselor Ann Barrett for having an inappropriate relationship with a student from 2013 to 2015.

School board to pay massive sum to settle with anti-woke, Christian teacher

The school board in Loudoun County, Virginia, has agreed to a permanent injunction and to pay $20,000 to settle claims brought by teacher Tanner Cross, who was punished by officials for expressing his Christian worldview in a public meeting.

An announcement Monday from Alliance Defending Freedom said the injunction permanently prohibits the Loudoun County School Board from retaliating against Cross for expressing “his constitutionally protected views on the board’s transgender policy.”

The agreement is a permanent resolution of protection obtained by Cross earlier when a county circuit court granted his request for preliminary relief against retaliation, which was affirmed by the state Supreme Court.

ACLU Speaks Out — Finally — Against FBI Raid on James O’Keefe

The American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) on Sunday warned against the potential consequences of the Justice Department‘s recent raids of Project Veritas founder James O’Keefe‘s residence and the residences of his associates.

“Project Veritas has engaged in disgraceful deceptions, and reasonable observers might not consider their activities to be journalism at all,” the ACLU said in a statement. “Nevertheless, the precedent set in this case could have serious consequences for press freedom.

“Unless the government had good reason to believe that Project Veritas employees were directly involved in the criminal theft of the diary, it should not have subjected them to invasive searches and seizures,” the ACLU continued.

“We urge the court to appoint a special master to ensure that law enforcement officers review only those materials that were lawfully seized and that are directly relevant to a legitimate criminal investigation,” the organization added.

The federal court overseeing the case is set to hear arguments about a special master this week, and ordered the Department of Justice to stop extracting data from O’Keefe’s smartphone pending the resolution of that issue.

Analysis of Biden’s Build Back Better bill says the plan could cost more than twice what White House claims

An estimate from the Committee for a Responsible Federal Budget found that the House Build Back Better Act as currently written will cost roughly $2.4 trillion with about $2.2 trillion in offsets.

But the legislation relies on budget gimmicks, sunset provisions, and expirations of certain tax credits and programs in order to keep the topline cost artificially low.

“If the plan’s temporary policies were made permanent, we find the cost would increase by as much as $2.5 trillion,” the CRFB analysis stated. “As a result, the gross cost of the bill would more than double from $2.4 trillion to $4.9 trillion.”

If each piece of Biden’s Build Back Better plan is made permanent without additional spending offsets, it will add nearly $3 trillion to the deficit through 2031.

White House Scrambles to Support Kamala Harris After Damaging CNN Report

The report detailed White House aides were exasperated with Harris and her team and the vice president felt unsupported by President Joe Biden’s team.

The sudden reaction to the CNN story from the White House prompted mockery, especially after Psaki claimed Harris helped deliver on broadband and actually succeeded handling the migration crisis.

In the CNN story, Harris’ allies complained the West Wing left Harris unprotected from political attacks, as some supporters noted they were much more supportive of Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg who was attacked for being on paid leave for months after he and his husband Chasten got twins.

The political tensions between Harris and Biden’s teams have  been simmering in the first nine months of the Biden presidency as Harris struggled with her role on handling the border crisis.

Michigan city becomes first to elect all Muslim officials. They insist religion will not interfere with their governance.

Residents of Hamtramck, Michigan, located just outside Detroit, recently elected a Muslim mayor and three more Muslim city council members, the Detroit Free Press reported. So, beginning in January, all six of the city council positions will be held by Muslim members.

“Five of them are immigrants and one is a convert to Islam with ancestral roots in eastern Europe,” the Free Press added, noting that Hamtramck — which used to be a Polish Catholic enclave — now boasts a majority population of residents who claim either Arab or Asian ancestry.

According to census data, more than two-thirds of the city’s roughly 28,000 residents speak a language other than English in their homes.

Various Muslim groups told the Free Press that Tuesday’s historic election made Hamtramck the first city in the nation to elect all Muslims to its political posts.

Global Wealth Surges as China Overtakes U.S. to Grab Top Spot

Global wealth tripled over the last two decades, with China leading the way and overtaking the U.S. for the top spot worldwide.

That’s one of the takeaways from a new report by the research arm of consultants McKinsey & Co. that examines the national balance sheets of ten countries representing more than 60% of world income.

Net worth worldwide rose to $514 trillion in 2020, from $156 trillion in 2000, according to the study.

China accounted for almost one-third of the increase. Its wealth skyrocketed to $120 trillion from a mere $7 trillion in 2000, the year before it joined the World Trade Organization, speeding its economic ascent. 

A Russian Test Has Placed the ISS in Danger of Space Junk Collisions

A weapons test executed by Russia has generated more than 1,500 chunks of supersonic space debris that could threaten the lives of seven astronauts currently aboard the International Space Station, according to an initial report from AP News.

Four U.S. astronauts, one German, and two Russian cosmonauts aboard the International Space Station were forced to take shelter in docked capsules to minimize the risk to their lives or livelihood from potential damage as at least 1,500 pieces of supersonic debris passed within the trajectory of the station.

The supersonic debris are space junk, and combined are massive enough to show up on radar, and the debris will continue to pose a danger as it orbits the Earth for days, thanks to Russia’s anti-satellite weapons test.

“It was dangerous. It was reckless. It was irresponsible,” said Ned Price of the U.S. State Department, in the report.

Elizabeth ‘Liz’ Truss, the Secretary of State for Foreign, Commonwealth, and Development Affairs in the Johnson administration, then penned a lengthy Sunday article for the Telegraph blasting Belarusian leader Alexander Lukashenko and his alleged puppetmaster, Russia’s Vladimir Putin, for the crisis, accusing them of having “carefully crafted [the] crisis [in] an attempt to divert attention away from the litany of abhorrent acts and human rights violations that the regime has already committed” in Belarus.

“We are not just standing side by side with Poland as it bears the brunt of this shameful manufactured migrant crisis, but also the others in the Visegrad Four – Hungary, Slovakia and the Czech Republic – and our friends in the Baltics and Ukraine,” Truss insisted.

Meanwhile, a leaked speech by Border Force’s outgoing chief, Paul Lincoln, suggests he was not exactly passionate about enforcing borders, telling listeners: “We’re all human beings, we’re all mammals, we’re all rocks, plants, rivers. Bloody borders are just such a pain in the bloody ass.”

Migrants Massing on Poland Border, Lured by False Promise of Free Passage to Germany

Pictures and video released by the Polish government showing crowds massing on the Belarusian side of the Polish border reveal a new intensification of Europe’s border crisis — caused, according to Warsaw, by false claims the border would be opened to migrants seeking transport to Germany.

The Polish government has been forthcoming in the border crisis in releasing snippets of intelligence it has gleaned on the migrants’ activities, including messages instructing them how to act.

One such message was said by Polish government spokesman Stanisław Żaryn to be representative of rumours and “fake news” put about by Belarus that buses would come to the Polish border to take migrants directly to Germany.

Liverpool explosion: Man killed in terror incident outside hospital named by police

Earlier, police carried out a controlled explosion as a precaution at Sefton Park in the city as part of the investigation.

So far four men have been arrested under terrorism laws in the Kensington area of Liverpool – three aged 21, 26 and 29, who were held on Sunday, and a man aged 20, who was detained on Monday.

Speaking at a press conference at Downing Street, the Prime Minister said the blast was a “stark reminder” to the public to remain vigilant, adding:

“What yesterday showed above all is that the British people will never be cowed by terrorism, we will never give in to those who seek to divide us with senseless acts of violence.
