Daughter charged with shooting elderly parents then dismembering them
A daughter shot her parents in the head before using a chainsaw to dismember their bodies and partly stuff the parts in to trash cans, authorities said Wednesday.
On Tuesday evening, the couple’s son, Justin Beck, drove past his parents’ house, having not spoken to them in person or on the phone since January 7. The lights were off and when he returned later that evening he found his sister, Verity Beck, who also lived there, and his father’s body.
When police arrived later on Tuesday night, they found the badly decomposing bodies of Reid Beck, 73, and Miriam Beck, 72. Police discovered a pillow that had been hit with bullets, noting that this most likely indicated it was placed across the parents’ faces before they were shot at close range and then savagely mutilated.
Verity Beck, 49, from Pennsylvania, was charged with two counts of first-degree murder, two counts of third-degree murder and other crimes in the killings of the elderly couple, Montgomery County District Attorney Kevin Steele told reporters.

A Texas Department of Public Safety trooper arrested two teenagers on charges related to human smuggling. The arrests took place in Val Verde County, Texas, following a dangerous high-speed pursuit.
1.5 Tons of Marijuana Seized at Texas Border Crossing
CBP officers assigned to the World Trade Bridge in Laredo, Texas, observed a 2004 Freightliner tractor-trailer approaching for inspection for entry into the United States from Mexico, according to a statement from Laredo Field Office officials. The officers referred the driver to a secondary inspection station.
A search of the trailer by a K-9 team and non-intrusive inspection systems led to the discovery of the possibility of drugs being smuggled in a commercial shipment of cotton candy.
A physical search of the trailer led to the discovery of 3,373.51 pounds of what is believed to be marijuana. Officials report the value of the load to be $7,546,946.
The officers seized the drugs. The smuggling incident is being investigated by Homeland Security Investigations special agents, officials stated.
10K Migrants Apprehended, Got Away Last Week in One Texas Border Sector
Del Rio Sector Chief Patrol Agent Jason D. Owens tweeted a weekly recap indicating that his agents apprehended 6,923 migrants during a seven-day period last week. In addition, Chief Owens reported an additional 3,403 migrants classified as got-aways.
This brought the total known border crossers to 10,326.
The apprehended migrants came to the United States from 79 different countries. They included 13 criminal aliens, three sex offenders, and one person with a firearm, Owens reported.
The agents encountered seven large migrant groups. This is down significantly from previous weekly reports.
Illegal Alien Gets Up to 19 Years in Prison for Strangling Massachusetts School Teacher to Death
Jose Melendez, a 60-year-old illegal alien from the Dominican Republic, pleaded guilty on Wednesday to voluntary manslaughter in the killing of 49-year-old Sandra “Buffy” Hehir who was found strangled to death in her apartment on February 5, 2017.
Prosecutors had a strong case for their murder charge against Melendez, reportedly obtaining DNA evidence that linked the illegal alien directly to the crime scene in Hehir’s apartment.
Melendez, despite having a number of run-ins with law enforcement, was never deported from the United States before Hehir’s death. When his DNA was obtained at the crime scene in Hehir’s case, for instance, it matched the DNA discovered at the scene of an unsolved rape case in 2000.
Likewise, in 2014, Melendez defaulted on probation after being convicted of breaking and entering and was charged with two unrelated drug-related crimes at the time of his arrest for Hehir’s death.

Murderous Sinaloa Cartel Cell Boss Caught in Mexican Border State, Say Police
Authorities in Baja California announced the arrest of a man known as Martin Ivan aka “El Guacho or Pica Gomas” near the town of La Rumorosa. The man is described as the leader of Los Plebes cell of the Sinaloa Cartel — a group linked to a spike in local crime.
Last week, Los Plebes were believed behind a shooting against hikers in La Rumorosa. According to Semanario Zeta, that attack took place on January 7, when gunmen in at least 8 SUVs began firing.
During a news conference this week by the Baja California Attorney General’s Office, authorities revealed that El Guacho is linked to murders, including one from November when gunmen kidnapped three teens, killing one.
Authorities believe the gunmen mistook the teens for rivals. According to General Leopoldo Tizoc Aguilar Durán, the head of Baja California’s State Police, El Guacho also has arrest warrants out of Sinaloa for murder.
Canadian Broadcaster Blasts Religious People, Wants NHL to Fine Flyers $1M for Allowing Player to Opt-Out of Gay Pride Night
Seixeiro was infuriated when Provorov refused to don a gay pride jersey and sat out the team’s warm-ups ahead of Tuesday’s game, citing his Russian Orthodox beliefs as his reason.
After the game, the 26-year-old Provorov told reporters that he “respects” everyone, but his religion prevents his participation in gay pride demonstrations.
“I respect everybody. I respect everybody’s choices,” he said, adding, “my choice is to stay true to myself and my religion.”
But all this drove Seixeiro, host of Canada’s Breakfast Television, to distraction. Seixeiro blasted people of faith and insisted that the NHL take serious action and impose heavy fines on the Flyers for violating the “rights” of the LGBTQ community.
Seixeiro started his rant by reminding his audience that several members of the Tampa Bay Rays also refused to participate in their team’s gay pride propaganda. Seixerio lamented that “Major League Baseball didn’t do much. It was a story for a little bit.”
Seixeiro wrapped up his rant by attacking Christians.

Diet Google: DuckDuckGo Dinged by Privacy Ratings Service for Lack of Transparency
Neutronian’s annual Data Privacy Scores have placed DuckDuckGo, which monetizes its services through Microsoft-owned Bing, in the bottom 10 percent of companies for data privacy, partly because of its weak transparency.
“DuckDuckGo, a search engine marketing its services based on privacy, but monetize services through Bing, got dinged for lack of disclosure and transparency,” Timur Yarnall, CEO at Neutronian, told MediaPost.
DuckDuckGo has long presented itself as the plucky, values-driven alternative to Google. But the search engine appears to censor its results just as much, if not more, than its Big Tech rival.
Like Google, DuckDuckGo has a News Tab, where Breitbart News appears to be completely excluded. Searches for the exact string of a Breitbart News headline in DuckDuckGo’s news tab yield no results. The Daily Caller and Newsmax also appear to be completely banned from the News Tab.
Google censors conservative media too, as Breitbart News has extensively covered. But DuckDuckGo seems to be no better. The search engine’s CEO has publicly boasted about “down-ranking sites associated with disinformation.”
Justice ‘reforms’ forcing prosecutors to toss out 69% of NYC criminal cases, alarming new study finds

A controversial new evidence law has led to big surges in the number of cases that prosecutors are being forced to drop across the Big Apple — fueling crime by putting suspected bad guys back on the streets without ever having to face justice, a new study obtained by The Post reveals.
The rate at which cases were dismissed citywide rose from 44% in 2019 — the year new “discovery” rules were adopted by state lawmakers — to 69% by mid-October 2021, the Manhattan Institute finds in the report, set for release Thursday.
For misdemeanor cases, the increase was even more dramatic, jumping from 49% to 82% during the same period, according to official data cited by the conservative think tank.
“The statute, therefore, has correlated with a devastating rise in crime and a drop in arrests,” author and former NYPD analyst Hannah Meyers wrote.
California: 10.8 Million Mail-In Ballots ‘Unaccounted For’ in 2022 Elections
In 2022, California election officials mailed out more than 22.1 million ballots to registered voters, the data published by PILF shows. Of those, more than 10.8 million went “unaccounted for” as researchers said election officials can only make assumptions as to what happened with the ballots.
“Typically, when a polling place opens and closes, there is an accounting of all election materials. Significant issues arise when incidents occur such as ballots disappearing at poll closing time. With mass mail elections, problems accumulate,” PILF researchers state:
Meanwhile, more than 226,000 mail-in ballots were rejected in the 2022 primary and general midterm elections in California, including more than 120,000 mail-in ballots that were thrown out in the general election.
The data published by PILF finds that more than 800 mail-in ballots were rejected after California election officials discovered the person who cast them had already voted.
Likewise, more than 57,000 mail-in ballots were rejected for arriving late, nearly 48,000 for not having a matching signature, nearly 12,000 for having no signature, and 660 for refusing to provide any identification.

Atlanta: Protesters call for ‘violence’ against police after shooting leaves 1 dead, officer injured
The Twitter account Scenes from the Atlanta Forest calls for a “Night of Rage” on Friday to enact “reciprocal violence to be done to the police and their allies,” according to the Scenes from the Atlanta Forest Twitter account.
“Consider this a call for reciprocal violence to be done to the police and their allies.
On Friday, January 20th, wherever you are, you are invited to participate in a night of rage in order to honor the memory of our fallen comrade,” the group wrote on Twitter, in an apparent violation of the platform’s terms and conditions.
In another tweet, posted several hours later, the group added: “The police will kill you if given the chance. Now is the time for bravery. Take care of each other. Be dangerous together.”
The upcoming event comes after a Georgia State Patrol trooper, wearing a bulletproof vest, was shot in the abdomen Wednesday morning.
It happened as police tried to clear an encampment near the site where the $90 million Atlanta Police Department (APD) facility will be constructed.

Defense Contractors Rake in Millions as U.S. Seeks to Supply More Weapons to Ukraine
Defense contractors are raking in millions of dollars as the Biden administration pledges to continue supporting Ukraine for “as long as it takes.”
The U.S. Army announced in December it awarded an $84 million contract to Raytheon Missiles and Defense for more than 1,000 Excalibur 1B precision munitions to replenish those sent to Ukraine.
Just weeks before, the Army awarded a $432 million contract to Lockheed Martin to replenish High Mobility Artillery Rocket System (HIMARS) launchers that the U.S. and allies sent to Ukraine, according to Defense News. The Army also awarded a $1.2 billion contract to Raytheon for six National Advanced Surface-to-Air Missile System (NASAMS) batteries for Ukraine.
This week, the Biden administration is expected to announce more military assistance to Ukraine when U.S. defense leaders meet with their counterparts in Germany for the eighth meeting of the Ukraine Defense Contact Group.
The U.S. pledged $400 million in military equipment at the group’s last meeting on November 23. CNN reported on Wednesday that the administration is putting together one of its largest aid packages ever.

Stockholm rocked by more gang-related explosions as bombings reach double digits in 2023
An explosion on Wednesday outside an office building in the Kista district of Stockholm brought the number of bombings in Sweden to double digits already for the year.
The blast, which occurred in the early hours of Wednesday in the Swedish capital, was the result of a large explosive charge that detonated, causing extensive damage to an office building, police spokesperson Ola Osterling told Swedish public broadcaster SVT.
“The explosive charge has destroyed the gate, and we also have damage on the first and second floors,” he said, confirming that no casualties had been reported as a result of the explosion.
The bombing came just one day after a restaurant in the Södermalm island district of Stockholm was targeted by a powerful explosion.
That incident resulted in considerable damage to the restaurant and nearby residential buildings, which suffered shattered windows as a result of the blast.

The court heard the initial 999 call, made by Kaylea’s grandmother, saying that Kaylea was “cold”, and the family were “unable to wake her”.
In a follow-up call from ambulance control, Kaylea’s father, Alun Titford, can be heard saying his daughter was “too big to move”, when asked by the 999 controller to position her on to her side.

A country that operates German-made Leopard tanks has asked for permission from Berlin to give the heavy armour to Ukraine, Britain’s defence secretary has revealed.
Ben Wallace did not say which nation he was referring to but it is likely to be Poland, which has made clear it would like to send some of its Leopard 2 main battle tanks to support Ukrainian forces in their fight against Russia.
Pressure is mounting on Olaf Scholz’s government to allow the Leopard, one of the world’s most lethal and modern tanks, to be part of a new wave of increasingly powerful military aid to Kyiv ahead of what many believe will be a new escalation in the war.
Germany holds the export licence so any country wanting to supply Ukraine with its own fleet of tanks needs to obtain permission from Berlin.

PESHAWAR (Reuters) – The Pakistani Taliban on Thursday claimed responsibility for a suicide bomb attack on a police post in northern Pakistan that killed three police officers.
Attackers threw grenades at a police outpost near the Afghan border in northern Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province and entered the premises where a suicide bomber detonated explosives, according to police.
They said the number of wounded was not yet known.
Former Commander In Bosnian Serb Military Sentenced To 15 Years For War Crime
The Court of Bosnia-Herzegovina ruled on January 19 that Boban Indjic participated in the killings and sentenced him, ending a trial that started in 2015 for a war crime committed 30 years ago. His detention was extended after the first-instance verdict, which can be appealed.
The court found Indjic was part of a group of Bosnian Serb soldiers and paramilitaries that ambushed the train and abducted the 20 passengers in February 1993.
Indjic was initially charged with eight other members of the same military unit, but the trials were separated because Indjic was convicted in Serbia of causing a traffic accident. After serving his sentence for that crime his trial continued before the Court of Bosnia-Herzegovina.
A Bosnian state court convicted Indjic’s seven comrades in October 2022 and sentenced each to 13 years in prison.
