Oxnard man gets 35 years in prison for shooting and killing his wife in the presence of their 6 children

Alfredo Ortiz, 38, of Oxnard pleaded guilty to first-degree murder and admitted to using a gun, according to the Ventura County District Attorney’s Office.

The killing happened on Jan. 5, 2017, in the 100 block of North Juanita Street, where witnesses reported seeing a man dragging a woman into a home before several gunshots were heard, the Oxnard Police Department said at the time.

Another woman and six children were then seen running away from the home.

Inside, police found Ortiz’s wife, Teresa, suffering from a gunshot wound to the abdomen. Responding officers started life saving measures, but the woman succumbed to her injuries.

Judge blocks Biden’s vaccine mandate for federal contractors

A federal judge on Tuesday blocked President Joe Biden’s administration from enforcing a COVID-19 vaccine mandate for employees of federal contractors, the latest in a string of victories for Republican-led states pushing back against Biden’s pandemic policies.

U.S. District Judge R. Stan Baker, in Augusta, Georgia, issued a stay to bar enforcement of the mandate nationwide.

The order came in response to a lawsuit from several contractors and seven states — Alabama, Georgia, Idaho, Kansas, South Carolina, Utah and West Virginia. It applies across the U.S. because one of those challenging the order is the trade group Associated Builders and Contractors Inc., whose members do business nationwide.

Havoc in Hawaii: Storm clobbers the islands with wild winds, flooding rain, snow

An unusually powerful storm battered the Hawaiian islands Tuesday, leaving thousands without power and flooding streets across the archipelago.

It also brought as much as 8 inches of snow atop some of the state’s highest summits. The conditions forced Gov. David Ige to issue a state of emergency for all of the state’s islands Monday night.

On Maui, power outages and flooding were reported, with more than a foot of rain falling in some areas. The southern shores of Maui recorded at least 11.28 inches.

Left-wing Shutdown DC protest blocks traffic around nation’s capital

The initiative, dubbed “Shutdown DC,” is a joint effort from several activist organizations that are each conducting blockades at different spots near the Capitol building.

“On Dec. 7, as Congress returns to the Capitol for the last week of the 2021 legislative calendar, we’re going to take bold direct action to demand that Congress and the administration take action to pass the programs that they promised us and we voted for,” said a message on the Shutdown DC website. “We’re taking to the streets to shut down the backroom meetings and political theater that have failed to deliver the progress that our communities need.”

According to conservative podcaster Lyndey Fifield, the blockades did more than just draw attention to their causes: they also got in the way of World War II veterans looking to commemorate the 80th anniversary of the attack on Pearl Harbor, which took place on Dec. 7, 1941.

Pharmaceutical exec arrested for alleged insider trading

NEWARK, N.J. – The former chief financial officer and the former head of corporate communications for a biopharmaceutical company were arrested for their roles in an insider trading scheme, Acting U.S. Attorney Rachael A. Honig announced today.

Usama Malik, 47, and Lauren S. Wood, 33, both of Washington, D.C., are charged by complaint with securities fraud. Malik and Wood were both arrested on Dec. 1, 2021.

Malik is scheduled to appear this afternoon by videoconference before U.S. Magistrate Judge Zia Faruqui in Washington, D.C., federal court.

Wood is scheduled to appear this afternoon before U.S. Magistrate Judge John F. Anderson in Alexandria, Virginia, federal court.

10 anti-fascists charged for alleged attacks on California pro-Trump protesters: ‘Violent criminal acts’

“Video evidence analysis shows that overwhelmingly the violence in this incident was perpetrated by the Antifa affiliates and was not a mutual fray with both sides crossing out of lawful First Amendment expression into riot and violence,” District Attorney Summer Stephan’s office said in a news release, according to the San Diego Union-Tribune.

The defendants “are self-identified to be affiliated with Anti-fascists or Antifa” and gathered on Jan. 9 in San Diego to take “direct action” against a pro-Trump “Patriot March,” according to the San Diego County District Attorney’s Office.

“Direct action” is defined as “acts of violence such as assault, battery, assault with deadly weapons, arson, and vandalism,” according to the DA’s office.

California follow-home robbers wore ‘police-type’ gear while forcing victims inside at gunpoint, video shows

The video shows three people appearing to return home when two men claiming to be DEA agents approach them. Both men are seen wearing what appear to be police badges as well as black vests with “police” written on them.

One suspect was armed with a gun, while the other brandished a rubber mallet, police said.

The suspects hold the victims at gunpoint and demand they open the front door, according to the video.

When the victim with the keys appears to struggle opening the door, the suspects throw punches and yell curse words.

Los Angeles’ DA Gascon still silent on crime wave, prosecutor says

Eric Siddall, vice president of the Association of Los Angeles Deputy District Attorneys, said the top prosecutor cares more about the rights of criminal suspects than crime victims as gangs of thieves continue to loot retail stores for thousands of dollars in merchandise, often in front of customers and staff. 

Last week, 14 suspects allegedly involved in 11 smash-and-grab robberies last month were arrested and back on the street hours later because of zero-bail policies. They remain free while awaiting their cases to play out in court. 

Gascon has come under increasing scrutiny since taking office last year over his progressive policies critics say are too soft on crime. Opponents launched a second recall effort against him Monday after the first failed to gather enough signatures by the Oct. 26 deadline. 

113 LAFD firefighters removed from duty without pay for failing to meet city’s vaccination mandate

In November, the department sent 222 notices to department personnel who had not yet submitted their vaccination status or requested an exemption.

The notices warned of the consequences of violating the mandate, and as of Monday, 113 firefighters were placed on leave without pay. The number of firefighters who are off-duty changes daily due to members updating their vaccination and testing status, according to the Los Angeles Fire Department’s Cheryl Getuiza.

Firefighters who continue to resist the vaccination mandate “will be entered into the process for termination of their employment, as outlined in the City Charter,” Getuiza said.

Mom Says Son Vaccinated in Exchange for Pizza at LAUSD Without Her Consent

Maribel Duarte says her 13-year-old son, a student at the Barack Obama Global Prep Academy in South LA, brought home a vaccine card after having accepted the COVID-19 vaccine at school.

She says he said yes when someone offered it in exchange for pizza.

The LAUSD says student matters are confidential and wouldn’t comment specifically, but did say its “safe schools to safe steps incentive program” is meant to ensure several steps are in place for vaccinated students to receive prizes. Duarte says she’s not against the vaccine. She’s vaccinated herself, but it’s different with her son.

“He has problems with asthma and allergy problems,” she said.

Biden budget pick Neera Tanden drops out of nomination process after confirmation process unravels

Biden in a statement said Tanden had withdrawn her nomination and said he still would”look forward to having her serve in a role in my Administration,” signaling that he could still appoint her to a position that does not require Senate confirmation.

In a letter from Tanden withdrawing her nomination sent out by the White House, she said, “it now seems clear that there is no path forward to gain confirmation, and I do not want continued consideration of my nomination to be a distraction from your other priorities.”

Her nomination began to unravel after Sen. Joe Manchin, a key moderate Democrat, said he would not support her nomination, triggering a string of Republicans to announce they would also vote against her.

Studies: Trump tax cuts helped lower income families, Build Back Better helps wealthier Americans

A new analysis published by the Heartland Institute found that the TCJA reduced the average effective income tax rates for taxpayers in every income tax bracket – but the lower- and middle-class saw the greatest benefits – with the lowest-income filers receiving the largest tax cuts.

While Democrats continue to claim that the TCJA gave tax breaks to the rich, IRS data show that higher-income earners paid more in taxes in 2018 than they did in 2017.

The financial gains seen by lower-earning Americans resulting from the TCJA could be erased if the Democrats’ BBB Act were passed, several analyses show.

The Tax Policy Center found that “taking into account all major tax provisions, roughly 20 percent to 30 percent of middle-income households would pay more in taxes in 2022” as a result of the BBBA tax changes.

U.S., Japanese forces simulate war games in ‘Resolute Dragon’ exercises

U.S. troops and members of Japan’s Ground Self-Defense Force began the bilateral training exercise, called “Resolute Dragon,” on Monday.

It’s being conducted at Japan’s Ojojihara Training Area and is scheduled to run through Dec. 17.

Officials say the exercise is designed to improve defensive capabilities of the U.S.-Japan alliance.

“Resolute Dragon 21 is an example of the strength of the U.S.-Japan alliance, which has served as the foundation of peace and security in the Indo-Pacific for more than 60 years,” USMC Gen. Jay Bargeron said in a statement.

Officials said nearly 2,700 Marines are participating with 1,400 Japanese troops.

German husband kills himself, his family after faking jab certificate

Police found two adults, both 40, and three children aged four, eight and ten dead from gunshot head wounds in a family home in Koenigs Wusterhausen south of Berlin on Saturday.

In a pages-long farewell note found by police, the man, named as Devid R, said he forged a vaccination certificate for his wife Linda. 

Her employer had found out, prompting the couple to fear they would be arrested and lose their children Leni, Janni and Rubi, prosecutor Gernot Bantleon told news agency dpa.

Police were called to the house on Saturday after being alerted by witnesses who had seen lifeless bodies in the house. Pictures of the young family alongside candles and teddies were left outside the property in tribute.

A History Lesson About Petty Tyrants & Vaccine Mandates

The facts of this 1894 case (read here, starting at original page 325) provide a fascinating mirror in microcosm of what we as a nation are undergoing today. Not too many months ago, President Biden and Dr. Anthony Fauci agreed that vaccine mandates were immoral and unconstitutional, but since then they apparently have realized that medical mandates are also the easiest way to corral and control the American public into obedience.

Forget that vaccination doesn’t protect you from becoming ill from COVID-19. Forget that CDC data shows the vaccine itself has caused thousands of deaths and countless injuries. Forget that the latest variant of the virus — the so-called omicron strain — actually appears to be considerably less severe than the prior versions. (Symptoms are about equivalent to that other famous virus, the common cold!)

None of that matters as long as free people can be trained to line up dutifully like Pavlov’s dogs every time the government rolls out a new booster shot. Woof! Woof!
