Video: Thug walks up to Philly parking cop, shoots him from behind in ‘brazen,’ broad-daylight attack
Video shows the suspect walking up to the 37-year-old officer from behind and shooting him in the ear and shoulder around 4 p.m. Friday in the 4500 block of Frankford Avenue, WPVI-TV reported.
The officer — identified by his employer as Timothy McKenzie — collapsed on the sidewalk before help arrived, the station said.
The suspect is described as about 5-feet-9 to 6-feet tall with a thin build, the station said, adding that he was seen wearing a navy blue hooded sweatshirt, green cargo pants, black mask, gloves, and black boots.
Police added that the suspect had a silver revolver and fled to the 1500 block of Gillingham Street toward Griscom Street.
WPVI said the suspect should be considered armed and dangerous, and anyone with information is asked to call police at 215-686-TIPS.
Elon Musk’s brain microchips ready for humans in 6 months, he says
Musk forecasted the milestone Wednesday night at a “Neuralink Show and Tell” event to share the company’s progress.
“Obviously we want to be extremely careful and certain that it will work well before putting a device in a human,” he said. “But we’ve submitted, I think, most of our paperwork to the [U.S. Food and Drug Administration], and we think probably in about six months we should be able to have our first Neuralink in a human.”
In a tweet during the event, Musk said the startup is “confident” the device is “ready for humans, so timing is a function of working through the FDA approval process.”
On this day in history, Dec. 1, 1955, Rosa Parks refuses to give up her bus seat to a White passenger
The firestorm of action and attention that followed her one-woman protest reshaped American history.
“After the arrest of Rosa Parks, Black people of Montgomery and sympathizers of other races organized and promoted a boycott of the city bus line that lasted 381 days,” writes the Rosa and Raymond Parks Institute for Self Development.
“Contingent with the protest in Montgomery, others took shape throughout the south and the country. They took form as sit-ins, eat-ins, swim-ins, and similar causes. Thousands of courageous people joined the ‘protest’ to demand equal rights for all people.”
Parks had won an early victory. But the march for equality had only just begun.
California correctional officers shoot, kill 2 inmates who were stabbing fellow prisoner
The alleged attackers, Raul Cuen and Frank Nanez, refused to follow verbal orders from prison staff to stop attacking Anthony Aguilera, the statement said.
Officers then fired a warning shot and deployed chemical agents, but the men continued to ignore them, officials said.
“Staff then fired additional rounds when the attack continued,” the statement said.
Both Cuen and Nanez were struck by gunfire and died a short time later, officials said.
Cuen, 48, was incarcerated in 1994 on a life sentence for murder, while Nanez, 32, was serving seven years to life for first-degree murder.

New Orleans reverses facial recognition ban to help police fight crime; privacy experts are wary
As violent crime continues to plague New Orleans, investigators have been given another tool to help solve cases following a reversal over the summer of a ban on facial recognition software despite privacy, civil rights and accuracy concerns from detractors.
The New Orleans Police Department began training officers on the software over the summer, but its use will be limited in scope to prevent potential abuses, New Orleans Police Sgt. David Barnes told Fox News Digital.
He noted that the technology is not used to prevent crime or for purposes of probable cause but, instead, to aid in investigations of crimes that have already occurred.

Oakland passes measure to give adult residents $100 voucher to donate to local political campaigns
Oakland, California, passed a measure that gives residents taxpayer-funded “Democracy Dollars” to donate to political campaigns in a bid to increase voter turnout and to broaden campaign opportunities to candidates who lack deep financial resources.
Characterized by the San Francisco Chronicle this week as an “under the radar measure,” the bill was supported by 74% of voters in the Nov. 8 election.
The Fair Elections Act, placed on the ballot as Measure W, requires the city to send adult residents, including non-U.S. citizens who hold Green Cards, four $25 vouchers every two years to be donated to local political campaigns.
The measure will be funded by the city’s general fund, according to the San Francisco Chronicle, and will total at about $4 million per election cycle.
2 former Democrat public officials who pleaded guilty to vote-buying conspiracy sentenced to prison
A co-conspirator, 69-year-old Sidney Smith, used the money provided by Trabona and Hart to pay voters. For every bought voter, the vote buyers would allegedly receive $20.
Trabona, who served as the Amite City chief of police from 2005 to 2020, was also ordered to pay a $10,000 fine. According to the Heritage Foundation, Trabona also attempted to buy votes during his 2020 reelection in both the primary and general races.
On Wednesday, a co-conspirator in the vote-buying conspiracy was sentenced to four months in prison.
Two other men, Calvin Batiste and Louis Ruffino, previously pleaded guilty to their involvement in the scheme and are awaiting sentencing.

Georgia man receives 25-year sentence for voter fraud in 2021 Senate runoff election
A jury deliberated for an hour before determining that he had “signed and delivered the forged absentee ballot, signed the Oath of Elector as the resident, marked the ballot for the resident without the authority to do so, and voted twice in the same election.”
Chase has several other convictions related to fraud, the D.A.’s office said, including “Financial Identity Fraud” and “Impersonating an Officer.” He faces a total of 25 years in prison for the latest conviction, with 15 of those to be served without the possibility of parole.
District Attorney Chris Arnt in the press release praised the fact that the prosecutor’s office “had sufficient evidence to successfully prosecute [Chase].”
“This prosecution, along with the stiff prison sentence will hopefully send a clear message that we do not tolerate voter fraud in the Lookout Mountain Judicial Circuit,” he said.

Detectives in Nashville are searching for five suspects who attacked a Buddhist monk in a caught-on-camera assault after robbing a Buddhist temple over the weekend, authorities said Wednesday.
The thieves appeared to be a man and four women, one of whom was carrying a toddler during the incident.
At least two of the women held the monk on the ground while the others rifled through the temple for several minutes and grabbed cash, according to authorities.
The male suspect can be seen putting the monk in a headlock while the other women help take him down to the ground, tearing off part of the monk’s garment.
Authorities asked anyone with information about the identities of the suspects to call Crime Stoppers at 615-742-7463.

Kamala Harris attends secretive gathering of influential Democratic donors who help steer liberal agenda
Founded in 2005, the Democracy Alliance is a secretive group of wealthy Democratic donors that helps steer the progressive agenda and counts George Soros as a known member.
Since its inception, the club has been instrumental in driving massive sums to left-wing causes and organizations and propping up left-wing pipelines and infrastructure.
Democracy Alliance members must donate at least $200,000 annually to groups vetted and approved by the coalition.
According to internal documents obtained by the Washington Free Beacon, the alliance has recommended its members use pass-through avenues such as the billion-dollar dark money nonprofit network managed by Arabella Advisors consulting firm to fund endeavors.
This year’s fall conference is not the first time Harris has cozied up to the influential group. In 2017, then-Sen. Harris recorded a “special videotaped message” for attendees introducing “A talk with George Soros” at their retreat in Carlsbad, Calif., the Free Beacon reported. In 2021, Harris pre-recorded remarks for its Fall virtual summit.
Hakeem Jeffries, House Dems’ new leader, said Tara Reade’s Biden accusation should be ‘investigated seriously’
House Democratic Caucus Chairman Hakeem Jeffries, who was elected Wednesday by House Democrats to succeed Speaker Nancy Pelosi, said during the 2020 presidential election that Tara Reade’s sexual assault allegation against President Biden “needs to be investigated seriously.”
Jeffries made headlines in April 2020 after he broke with his party to lend credibility to the claims made by Reade, a former Biden staffer who accused Biden of cornering her in a Senate office building in 1993 and sexually assaulting her.
Multiple people have corroborated parts of Reade’s story since she first spoke out on March 25, 2020, but Biden and his campaign vehemently denied the claims.
