District Court Judge: Ban on Handgun Sales to 18-20-Year-Olds Unconstitutional

Ultimately, Payne observed that the prohibition against 18-20-year-olds buying a handgun cannot survive the Bruen test. He pointed out that “the Government simply has not met its burden to support the finding that restrictions on the purchasing of firearms by 18-to-20-year-olds is part of our Nation’s history and tradition.”

He concluded, “Because the statutes and regulations in question are not consistent with our Nation’s history and tradition, they, therefore, cannot stand.”

The case is Fraser v. ATF, No. 3:22-cv-00410 in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Virginia, Richmond Division.

The temporary restraining order (TRO) was signed by federal Judge T. Kent Wetherell of the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Florida after a request by Florida’s Attorney General Ashley Moody. The TRO lasts up to 14 days and says:

DHS is enjoined from implementing or enforcing the parole policy contained in the May 10, 2023, Memorandum from U.S. Border Patrol Chief Raul Ortiz, titled “Policy on Parole with Conditions in Limited Circumstances Prior to Issuance of a Charging Document (Parole with Conditions).

“A TRO is an extraordinary measure that preserves the status quo while a federal trial judge is determining whether to issue a preliminary injunction, or PI,” explained Breitbart News senior legal contributor Ken Klukowski.

Ramaswamy: Raise Voting Age to 25

(AP)

Republican presidential hopeful Vivek Ramaswamy on Thursday voiced support for changing the overall U.S. voting age to 25, unless younger Americans fulfill at least six months of service in the military or as a first responder — or pass the same citizenship test administered to those seeking to become naturalized citizens.

Ramaswamy’s campaign announced the biotech entrepreneur and “anti-woke” activist’s push for a U.S. Constitutional amendment promoting “civic duty voting,” which he announced in a news release and detailed during a campaign event in Urbandale, Iowa.

Revising the Constitution is no simple task, requiring overwhelming support in Congress and in state legislatures. Still, Ramaswamy said in his release that the “absence of national pride is a serious threat to the future of our country” and argued his proposal “can create a sense of shared purpose and responsibility amongst young Americans to become educated citizens.”

Ukraine: Bakhmut Gains Not Start of Counteroffensive

Ukrainian forces have advanced by about 2 km around the eastern city of Bakhmut this week and have not given up any positions there in that time, Deputy Defence Minister Hanna Maliar said on Friday.

But she appeared to play down suggestions that Ukraine had already started a much-anticipated counteroffensive, and urged Ukrainians to disregard what she described as Russian disinformation about the situation in and around Bakhmut.

Some Russian military bloggers reported on Thursday that Ukrainian troops had broken through parts of the front line. Moscow denied the reports and said the situation was under control after 10 months of fierce fighting for Bakhmut.

The United Kingdom has donated an unspecified number of longer-range stealth cruise missiles to Ukraine, saying these were for the purpose of pushing back “Russian forces based within Ukrainian sovereign territory”.

The confirmation by defence minister Ben Wallace came after claims in CNN earlier in the day that the MBDA-developed missiles had already been delivered.

Saying the new Anglo-French long-range missiles going to Ukraine were a “calibrated and proportionate response to Russia’s escalations” and that “Russia must recognise that their actions alone have led to such systems being provided”, Wallace told the Commons:

Ukraine Gain: U.S. M1 Abrams Battle Tanks Land in Germany Ahead of Schedule

The Associated Press

AP reports Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin told the Senate Appropriations defense subcommittee the U.S. had moved “a number of tanks over into theater” so the Ukrainians could begin training on the advanced heavy battlefield armor ahead of an anticipated summer offensive against Russian forces.

U.S. troops have trained more than 8,800 Ukrainians so far this year already, including on how to use Stryker and Bradley fighting vehicles and M109 Paladins together on the battlefield.

The Biden administration is yet to rule out further contributions to Ukraine as part of its escalating contributions to Kyiv.
