Elon Musk calls out military for diversity focus
DoD’s tweet about the summit described diversity in the military as “a strategic imperative critical to mission readiness and accomplishment.”
Musk replied, “Your strategic imperative is defending the United States.”
The comment came as lawmakers target the military for policies and statements perceived as too politicized or progressive. Rep. Jim Banks (R-IN) also criticized the summit on Twitter.
“As Chairman of the Military Personnel Subcommittee, ensuring our military is focused on lethality and readiness, NOT wokeness and DEI, is my top priority,” Banks said, referring to diversity, equity, and inclusion.
Chicago man met woman on dating app, tied her up in his mom’s basement and beat her: police
According to Dolton police, the man had been holding the woman against her will in his mother’s house since Sunday.
On Monday, the pair went to an Advanced Auto Parts store located on Sibley Boulevard in Dolton. The man sent the woman into the store to make a purchase.
While the woman was in the store, police say she approached the cashier – bruised and battered – and told them the situation, including that he had a gun.

An organization that enables child transgenderism, called “TransFamily Support Services” (TFSS) which encourages transgenderism among young children, was one of the sponsors of the SDCOE’s 2023 Equity Conference, called “Equity is Love in Action.”
TFSS works to facilitate the transition of youth and states that its mission is to create a “gender affirming and accepting community.”
“Like Me” is the name of one program from TFSS that specifically seeks to encourage transgenderism among elementary school students. It aims to connect “gender diverse elementary aged youth with each other.”
Train derails southeast of Gothenburg
A Union Pacific freight train derailed in Nebraska early on Tuesday, sparking an emergency response.
Around 30 cars carrying coal jumped tracks three miles southeast of the town of Gothenburg at about 1.45am, officials said.
Emergency hazmat teams rushed to the site of the crash. There were no reported injuries.
Images posted to KNOP showed dozens of rail cars strewn along the tracks, alongside mounds of black coal.
It was the fourth derailment involving a Union Pacific train in the area since May last year, KNOP reported.

Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau famously said in 2022 that citizens can’t use guns for “self-protection” in the country.
Halton Region is no stranger to controversy, even with its police force once coming under scrutiny in 2017 for encouraging pronoun use among residents. Halton Police told the public to ask others what their “preferred pronouns” are — and took it a step further by publishing a “Handy Guide to Pronouns.”
This is the same region in which the school board has asked students to walk to to school and even wear an extra sweater so administrators can turn down the heat in their schools to “fight climate change.”
In addition, Halton District also employs the infamous teacher with gigantic, prosthetic breasts, defending the teacher’s gender identity despite public outcry and international condemnation.

Mexico’s ex-security minister Genaro García Luna convicted of drug trafficking
Genaro García Luna, once Mexico’s security minister, was found guilty of taking millions of dollars from Mexico’s biggest crime group, the Sinaloa drug cartel.
García Luna – who was arrested in the state of Texas in 2019 – had pleaded not guilty.
The 54-year-old could face up to 10 years in prison.
The verdict came after a four-week trial and three days of jury deliberation in the US District Court in Brooklyn, New York.

Germany condemns Iran over ‘inhuman’ death sentence for dual national
Germany condemned as “inhuman” a death sentence an Iranian court handed down Tuesday against an Iranian-German national who supporters say was abducted abroad and forcibly returned to Iran for a show trial.
The Tehran Revolutionary Court convicted Jamshid Sharmahd, 67, in connection with the deadly bombing of a mosque in 2008, the judiciary’s Mizan Online website reported.
Iranian authorities announced in August 2020 that Sharmahd, who is also a German national and a US resident, was arrested in what they described as a “complex operation” without specifying how, where or when he was seized.
His family say that he was abducted by the Iranian security services while in transit in Dubai and then brought under duress to the Islamic republic.
U.S. food additives banned in Europe: Expert says what Americans eat is “almost certainly” making them sick
In the U.S., the chemical compound is used by some food makers, usually in the form of fine crystals or powder, to strengthen dough. It is estimated to be present in more than 100 products.
“There is evidence that it may be toxic to human consumers, that it may even either initiate or promote the development of tumors,” professor Erik Millstone, an expert on food additives at England’s University of Sussex, told CBS News. He said European regulators take a much more cautious approach to food safety than their U.S. counterparts.
Asked if it can be said with certainty that differences in regulations mean people in the U.S. have developed cancers that they would not have developed if they’d been eating exclusively in Europe, Millstone said that was “almost certainly the conclusion that we could reach.”

Trump: Biden ‘Systematically’ Pushing US Into World War III
“If you watch and understand the moves being made by Biden on Ukraine, he is systematically, but perhaps unknowingly, pushing us into what could soon be WORLD WAR III,” Trump wrote in a post on his Truth Social page. “How crazy is that?”
Trump’s comment came after Biden met with Ukraine President Volodymyr Zelenskyy on Monday following a secretive trip to the war-torn nation’s capital city of Kyiv, traveling there one day before Russian President Vladimir Putin’s address to the nation and less than one week before the anniversary of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.
Trump, meanwhile, has blamed Biden for the war’s escalation and recently said that if he was the president, he would negotiate an end to the war in Ukraine “within 24 hours.”
He also said in the video on his Truth Social page, though, that if he were still in office, “the Russia-Ukraine war would never have happened … never in a million years.”
