CBP encounters at the southwest border reached 2,150,639 in August, topping last year’s record-breaking total of 1,734,686.

CBP Commissioner Chris Magnus said in a statement that “failing communist regimes in Venezuela, Nicaragua, and Cuba” are largely to blame for the influx of illegal immigrants at the southwest border.

“Our dedicated teams of skilled agents continue to work around the clock to secure our border and safely and humanely process and vet every individual encountered, but those fleeing repressive regimes pose significant challenges for processing and removal,” Magnus said.

Last week, Vice President Kamala Harris insisted that the U.S.-Mexico border is secure despite the record-breaking number of illegal immigrants entering the U.S.

Judicial Watch Sues Secret Service for Records about Hunter Biden’s Gun Allegedly Found in a Dumpster

The lawsuit was filed in U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia after United States Secret Service (a component of DHS) failed to respond adequately to a March 25, 2021, FOIA request for records or communications about the reported purchase, possession, and disposal of a firearm owned by Hunter Biden found in a Delaware dumpster circa October 2018.

Judicial Watch is investigating whether and how the Secret Service intervened for Hunter Biden in an incident involving a gun owned by him.

In October 2020, The Blaze reported that in October 2018, Hunter Biden’s handgun was taken by Hallie Biden, the widow of then-presidential nominee Joe Biden’s son Beau. In 2021, Politico reported:

(Reuters)—Federal prosecutors on Tuesday unveiled criminal charges against 47 people they accuse of stealing about $250 million from a federal aid program meant to help feed children during the COVID-19 pandemic.

The U.S. Department of Justice said that the scheme, which centered on the Minnesota non-profit organization Feeding Our Future, is the largest fraud linked to pandemic relief programs yet uncovered. Feeding Our Future founder Aimee Bock, 41, is among those charged.

“This was a brazen scheme of staggering proportions,” U.S. Attorney Andrew Luger for the District of Minnesota said in a statement. “These defendants exploited a program designed to provide nutritious food to needy children during the COVID-19 pandemic.”

On Monday, Adnan Syed was freed after having spent 23 years fighting his conviction on charges that he murdered his former high school girlfriend.

Syed’s case was chronicled in the first season of the hit podcast “Serial.”

Judge Melissa M. Phinn of Baltimore City Circuit Court vacated the conviction “in the interests of justice and fairness,” reports the New York Times . The judge found that prosecutors had failed to turn over evidence that could have helped Syed at trial.

Syed was 17 when he was charged with murdering his ex-girlfriend, Hae Min Lee. Lee was found strangled to death and buried in a park outside of Baltimore. Authorities suspected that Syed, upset with Lee breaking up with him, struggled with Lee in a car before killing her.

The Department of Energy (DOE) announced that it will extend the period in which it aims to sell 180 million barrels of crude oil by auctioning 10 million barrels from Sept. 19 to Sept. 27 and delivering the oil from Nov. 1. to Nov. 30, according to the notice.

The deliveries of the reserves, which aim to bring down gas prices, will take place during the same month as the midterm elections that take place on Nov. 8.

Biden has released 155 million barrels of oil so far, and the November sale will bring the total to 165 million barrels out of the 180 million barrels that he sought to sell from March to October.

The emergency reserve fell to its lowest level since Nov. 1984 on Sept. 6 after consistent monthly releases of crude, according to DOE data.
