A second Oath Keeper pleaded guilty to seditious conspiracy in the Jan. 6 riot
Brian Ulrich entered his guilty plea at a virtual hearing Friday in U.S. District Court in Washington, D.C. The 44-year-old from Guyton, Ga., is the second Oath Keeper to plead guilty to sedition charges in the highest-profile case to emerge from the federal investigation into the Capitol riot.
Ulrich is one of 11 Oath Keepers, including the group’s founder Stewart Rhodes, to be charged with seditious conspiracy and other crimes for allegedly plotting to use force to prevent Congress’ Jan. 6 certification of President Biden’s election win.
Now, five months before the case is set to go trial, prosecutors have secured the cooperation of two members of the alleged conspiracy to help build their prosecution against the remaining defendants.
2 US Army vets wounded by artillery fire in Ukraine
Black Rifle Coffee’s “Coffee Or Die” magazine first reported Paul Gray and Manus McCaffery were injured in fighting in the southeastern Ukrainian city of Orikhiv. Gray told the magazine that he and McCaffery were on a mission to take out a Russian tank and were waiting to ambush it when an artillery round landed nearby, injuring the two of them.
Coffee Or Die reporter Nolan Peterson tweeted a photo of the two Army veterans and McCaffery’s injuries after the artillery strike.
The artillery strike caused serious shrapnel wounds to McCaffery’s face, head, shoulders and torso. It also toppled a concrete wall, which fell on Gray’s left foot and momentarily trapped him.
A video originally posted to Twitter on Wednesday purports to show either Gray or McCaffery being carried away by fellow fighters.
Man kidnapped, robbed USPS workers to steal packages, feds say
A man with a replica handgun robbed mail carriers and kidnapped one in Pennsylvania to steal packages they were delivering, officials say.
Now James Chandler, 55, of Philadelphia has been sentenced to nearly 22 years in federal prison after he pleaded guilty to two counts of robbery of a postal worker and one count of kidnapping.
“Mr. Chandler terrorized two postal workers at gunpoint, and he will now spend decades behind bars for his actions,” said Acting U.S. Attorney Jennifer Arbittier Williams in an April 26 news release.
Indiana’s attorney general sues Black Lives Matter over its use of donations
Indiana Attorney General Todd Rokita filed a lawsuit against activist group Black Lives Matter Global Network Foundation (BLM) on Thursday. The suit is Rokita’s latest move in his investigation of the group’s finances and use of donations.
“I filed a lawsuit against the Black Lives Matter organization to protect Hoosiers from this house of cards,” Rokita said of the suit on social media. “BLM has concerning patterns of behavior [and] we’ll do what it takes to get to the bottom of it on behalf of generous Hoosiers who have donated to them.”
BLM secretly bought a $6 million mansion – which the group’s leaders are said to call “Campus” – and never disclosed it to the public. When a magazine inquired about the house, BLM reportedly circulated a memo discussing the possibility of trying to “kill” the story.
The purchase of the California house was separate from a 2021 transaction in which BLM transferred money to a Canadian nonprofit – run by the wife of BLM co-founder Patrisse Cullors – to buy a $3 million house.
Border city launches taxpayer-funded legal defense program for border crossers
SAN DIEGO (TND) — San Diego County launched a $5 million pilot program this week giving anyone held at the county’s federal immigration detention facility, including illegal migrants, the ability to request free legal help.
The program is the first example of a county along the southern border with Mexico using taxpayer dollars to fund such a program, according to the Associated Press.
There are over 50 jurisdictions across 21 states funding similar pro-bono programs for immigrants facing deportation, the nonprofit Vera Institute of Justice claims.
ICE struggles with growing crowds outside Florida facility amid migrant surge
An Immigration and Customs Enforcement office in Florida is becoming increasingly crowded with migrants who have been ordered to report.
The ICE office in Orlando became a gathering point for migrants of all backgrounds and statuses who are required to check in with immigration officials after being released into the U.S., Fox 35 Orlando reports. The drastic spike of people in the area has raised worries for people’s safety.
“The scenes outside of the Orlando ICE office are very concerning. We are sending out a letter this week to request a more orderly appointment schedule, additional personnel and other resources,” Rep. Darren Soto told local outlet News 6 in a statement.
‘There is no argument’: Rachel Levine praises ‘gender-affirming care’ for adolescents
WASHINGTON (TND) — Assistant Secretary of Health Rachel Levine, the first openly transgender federal official to be confirmed by the Senate, said in an interview with NPR that “there is no argument” among pediatricians and adolescent-specialist doctors regarding “the value and the importance of gender-affirming care.”
“Gender-affirming care” includes sex reassignment surgeries, puberty blockers, hormone therapy and social affirmation, according to an FAQ from Levine’s own agency, the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS).
Levine’s comments dismissing concerns over “gender-affirming care” came during an interview with NPR ahead of her appearance at a health conference in Texas, a state that has taken measures to declare “gender-affirming” medical treatments for youth as “child abuse” under state law.

SLAUGHTER, LA – Like a scene out of a horror movie, a Louisiana woman suffering from a rare medical condition was discovered dead, emaciated, covered in feces and literally “melted” into a couch, an apparent victim of extreme neglect that has her parents facing potential murder charges, authorities say.
Lacey Ellen Fletcher, 36, was afflicted with locked-in syndrome – a rare neurological disorder in which there is complete paralysis of all voluntary muscles except for the eyes – and was living in the Slaughter, Louisiana home of her parents, Sheila and Clay Fletcher, according to reports.
On the morning of January 3, Sheila called 911 from the family’s Tom Drive home, and responding officers were confronted with a nightmarish scene, accompanied by an equally gut-wrenching stench.
ISIS ‘Beatle’ member sentenced to life in prison for terror beheadings
One of the men convicted of kidnapping and killing American journalist James Foley, along with three other Americans in Syria, was sentenced to life in prison in a Virginia court Friday.
Alexanda Kotey, who was joined by El Shafee Elsheikh, was sentenced at the federal courthouse in Alexandria, Virginia for crimes he inflicted upon four Americans that ultimately resulted in their deaths.
Elsheikh, who was convicted earlier this month and will face sentencing later, was directed by the judge to also be present at the sentencing Friday so that he could hear the impact statements given by family members of his victims.
Kotey and Elsheikh, both of whom are British nationals, were a part of an ISIS cell dubbed “The Beatles” by their captives due to their accents.
Ringleader of their group was the infamous Mohammed Emwazi, more commonly known as Jihadi John, who was killed in Syria in 2015.
The FBI conducted millions of warrantless searches on Americans’ data last year, new report shows
The Federal Bureau of Investigation conducted as many as 3.4 million searches on Americans’ electronic data last year without a warrant, U.S. intelligence officials said Friday, according to the Wall Street Journal.
The data was disclosed as a part of the Office of the Director of National Intelligence’s Annual Statistical Transparency Report. Yet while the report is regularly issued every year, the search disclosure is new.
In fact, it marks the first time that a U.S. intelligence agency has published the number of times the FBI has accessed Americans’ data using Section 702 of the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act, a program passed into law in the years following the Sept. 11, 2001 terrorist attacks to enable the U.S. to spy on non-Americans overseas.
It comes at a pertinent time, as well. Section 702 is up for renewal at the end of the year, and privacy advocates will be eager to highlight the 3.4 million searches figure in an effort to seek its termination.
Commuter rail system ‘nobody wants to ride’ costing taxpayers millions
WASHINGTON (TND) — The SunRail commuter rail system in Orlando, Florida is currently running a $50 million deficit each year, according to a report by Fox 35. A year after the system was launched in 2014, SunRail reduced its hours to just run on weekdays due to a lag in ridership. Pre-pandemic ridership was about 1.4 million every year, an average of 5,609 daily trips. Now, on average, fewer than 1,000 people ride on SunRail every day.
“Tickets to ride this system cost between $2 and $5. It’s really cheap to ride it, but nobody wants to ride it,” said Adam Andrzejewski from OpentheBooks.com. “Every 10 years, this thing’s costing taxpayers a half-billion dollars a year.”
The rail system brings in around $16 million in revenue each year, according to reports, but costs for the SunRail system are budgeted for over $66 million.

3 California Highway Patrol officers injured in fiery freeway crash
The massive fire was caught on video. Authorities said the officers were investigating a crash along the 105 Freeway around midnight local time and had blocked off the area with flares.
About 90 minutes later, police say a woman in an SUV drove right through the flares and slammed into the back of a patrol car that was parked on the side of the freeway.
The patrol car then caught on fire, with two officers still inside. A good Samaritan and another CHP officer ran to the burning car and pulled the two officers out just as the vehicle became fully engulfed in flames, according to Fox 11.
The station reported that another good Samaritan pulled the third officer, who was hit by the spinning patrol car, away from the flames.
Video: Bystanders save cop shot on interstate, hold suspect at knifepoint
According to ABC 10, driver Yuhao Du, 25, crashed his car while driving eastbound on I-8 near the I-805 overpass. After Officer Tony Pacheco arrived on scene, Du allegedly attempted to grab the officer’s gun. A struggle ensued, and one round was discharged, striking Pacheco in the leg.
A group of good Samaritans stopped to provide medical assistance to the wounded cop and restrain the suspect at knifepoint until more police arrived.
“Two other gentlemen were holding his hand, keeping him calm,” Almond continued. “One of them was telling him, ‘Do you believe in God?’ And was there spiritually for him, so that was cool.”
According to Almond, the wounded officer grabbed his phone and called his wife, saying, “Babe, I’ve been shot. I want you to know I love you and I’m taken care of.”

The State Department was required on Tuesday to issue a report to Congress detailing the Syrian dictator’s financial empire but failed to meet that deadline. After requests for information on the report from the Washington Free Beacon and a pressure campaign from Republican foreign policy leaders, the State Department posted the report late Thursday.
The final report contained several errors, little-to-no new information about Assad’s empire, and left Republican lawmakers livid over what they say is the Biden administration’s bid to withhold critical information that could help Congress craft sanctions on Assad’s family and financial allies, including his benefactors in Iran.
“I’m disappointed that the report was, at best, the bare minimum of what was required,” Rep. Joe Wilson (R., S.C.), a member of the House Foreign Affairs Committee, told the Free Beacon. “Sadly, this is a weak, sloppy, and clearly rushed report that shelters the Assad regime from scrutiny.”
Republicans accuse Mayorkas of discrediting ‘legitimate criticism’ with ‘disinformation’ board, demand info
Oversight Committee Ranking Member Rep. James Comer, R-Ky., organized a letter Friday to Mayorkas, obtained exclusively by Fox News Digital, to “conduct oversight” on the new board and “continued efforts within the Biden Administration to suppress free speech and discredit legitimate criticism as misinformation.” All 19 House Oversight Republicans signed the letter.
The lawmakers allege that the Biden administration has perpetrated “demonstrably false claims” including on the Hunter Biden laptop story, that Border Patrol agents where whipping Haitian migrants and other “false narratives” regarding the crisis on the southern border.
“The United States’ internal security apparatus must serve to protect the American people from threats to the homeland, not be weaponized by an unpopular President to push false narratives and discredit lawful discourse,” write the lawmakers.
Mayorkas won’t name 1 domestic terror, White supremacy case referred to DOJ
Secretary of Homeland Security Alejandro Mayorkas on Thursday failed to name a case of domestic terrorism that his department has referred to the Department of Justice.
Rep. Greg Steube, R-Fla., pressed Mayorkas for data on any referrals he has made to the DOJ on the grounds of domestic terrorism. Mayorkas did not offer the data, saying he would provide it after the hearing.
The pair continued to clash on the subject, with Steube interrupting Mayorkas to demand he name one such case off the top of his head. Mayorkas continued to decline to answer.

Video shows rigged Ukrainian drone dropping bomb on Russian troops
A video published by Ukrainian forces on Telegram and shared on Twitter by Rob Lee, shows the view from a civilian-grade DJI Mavic drone being controlled by the Ukrainian side to drop a bomb on Russian troops.
The video shows the drone hovering up to a spot directly over a partially destroyed building where Russian troops were gathered. As the drone reaches its position over the apparently unaware Russians, a bomblet could be seen swaying back and forth, possibly from a string or some other makeshift fastener.
After a moment, the bomblet detached and fell to the ground right next to a vehicle bearing the iconic painted “Z” that Russian troops have used to denote their vehicles throughout the invasion of Ukraine.
The bomblet exploded and at least one person could be seen falling to the ground while others scattered.
NATO preparing for massive military exercises as Russia continues invasion of Ukraine
Tens of thousands of troops from NATO and its European allies are gearing up for a series of military exercises that the United Kingdom is calling one of the “largest shared deployments since the Cold War.”
The exercises, backed by aircraft, tanks, artillery and armored assault vehicles, will take place in Finland, Poland, North Macedonia and along the Estonian-Latvian border.
They will include troops from NATO and the Joint Expeditionary Force, which includes non-NATO members Finland and Sweden.
The deployments will begin this week in Finland, where troops from the U.S., Britain, Estonia and Latvia will participate in Exercise Arrow to improve their ability to work alongside Finnish forces.

Report: Putin Will ‘Declare War’ on Ukraine
Russian President Vladimir Putin will likely use the May 9 Victory Day celebrations, which mark the surrender of Nazi Germany in 1945, to inform the Russian people that he is waging a war in Ukraine, not running a special military operation, the U.K.’s defense minister said.
As the Kremlin’s assault on Ukraine moved into its 10th week on Thursday, Putin has not yet labeled it a war, but has instead maintained that it is a “special military operation,” the goal of which is the “denazification” of the former Soviet Union country.
British Defense Secretary Ben Wallace said the Russian head of state will have to tell the Russian people about the reality of the conflict if he needs more conscripts to be compelled to join the ranks under a formal declaration of hostilities.
