Family Dollar worker, 21, is charged with murder after emptying entire clip into the back of a 49-year-old shoplifter who stole motor oil
A shocking clip shows the moment a Houston Family Dollar employee killed a shoplifter, firing six shots into his back as he fled the store with motor oil.
Antonio Batres, 21, faces a murder charge after he emptied the clip of his Glock 9mm pistol into 49-year-old Troy Odom around 4.30 pm on April 17 as shoppers looked on.
In video taken by a shopper, two store employees are seen confronting Odom – one of the men can be heard shouting unintelligibly. Bottles of motor oil are strewn across the ground.
Batres can be seen aiming, taking a wide stance and firing. Odom collapses out of view, and can be heard shrieking as six shots ring out.
Arizona man robs 84-year-old woman in driveway after following her home
An Arizona man is on the loose after he robbed an elderly woman at gunpoint in her driveway after following her home. Claudette Jones was on her way home from the bank, when she realized the man began trailing her.
Before she could pull into the driveway, the suspect blocked the entryway, hopped out of his vehicle, ran to Jones and demanded money.
“(He) saw me come out of the bank and probably thought because I was elderly I had drawn out some money, but I didn’t draw out any money. I was just paying my credit card bill,” she tells Fox 10 Phoenix.
Tennessee police officer run over during traffic stop after suspect resists, flees, dashcam video shows
Tennessee police have released dramatic dashcam video that authorities say shows a suspect resist officers during a traffic stop before running one officer over with his vehicle as he flees.
Officers pulled over 26-year-old Roy Nicholson, of Columbia, for a traffic violation and asked him to step out of the vehicle after spotting a gun and smelling marijuana inside.
“Once outside of the car, Nicholson began actively resisting the officer,” the department said.
Nicholson breaks away from Officer Dustyn Stevens and runs back to his vehicle, according to the video.
Witnesses who saw the incident unfold followed the suspect vehicle and gave authorities its location, police said. Nicholson was found outside a nearby Walmart and arrested.
Federal court dismisses challenges to Texas abortion law’s private enforcement provision
A federal court has dismissed all challenges to a provision in a Texas’ controversial “fetal heart beat” abortion ban.
“Having received the ruling of the Texas Supreme Court that named officials defendants may not enforce the provisions o the Texas Heartbeat Act… this court REMANDS the case with instructions to dismiss all challenges to the private enforcement provisions of the statute and to consider whether plaintiffs have standing to challenge,” the ruling by the 5th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals said.
Study says whiteboards could be racist because they ‘collaborate with white organizational culture’
According to a report from Campus Reform, case study “Observing Whiteness in Introductory Physics Class” challenges the notion of whether the classroom whiteboard is a racist tool.
The study, published in March in Physical Review Physics Education Research, observed three students solving a physics problem and attempted to determine how “whiteness” could be ingrained in academia.
Whiteboards, according to the study, are tools which are predisposed to have “racist undertones” and can “perpetuate whiteness.”
Study authors in their report argued that “whiteboards display written information for public consumption; they draw attention to themselves and in this case support the centering of an abstract representation and the person standing next to it, presenting.”
“They collaborate with white organizational culture, where ideas and experiences gain value (become more central) when written down,” the authors continued.
Trans inmate rapes woman in jail, gets 7 more years
A transgender inmate was sentenced to seven years in prison for raping a woman while incarcerated in the women’s section of the Rikers Island jail, according to the New York Post.
Ramel Blount, who also goes by Diamond Blount, approached a 33-year-old woman exiting the shower, held her down by her neck and raped her Feb. 8, 2021, investigators said, according to the NYP.
Blount pled guilty to attempted rape April 7 and must register as a sex offender and undergo eight years of post-release supervision after the end of the seven-year sentence.
New York City allows transgender inmates to choose where they are held based on gender identity rather than biological sex, meaning that a male who identifies as a woman can be held in a women’s prison. It remains unclear whether Blount will serve time in New York City.
News outlet says Verizon stuck it with Pentagon internet repair bill despite $1B comms contracts
In a lengthy Twitter thread, Military.com Managing Editor Zachary Fryer Biggs shared his outlet’s experience dealing with Verizon’s Pentagon internet repair service.
“So let me tell you a little story about how @Verizon – the company that just got $1 billion to supply communications services at the Pentagon – is asking our newsroom to pay to fix wiring owned by the DoD. (Thread),” Biggs began. “We, like a lot of news orgs that have a desk at the Pentagon, have no choice but to pay Verizon for really really crappy (I mean low grade DSL) internet. It’s terrible, but it’s the only option, and we obviously need to have internet for our reporters.”
Biggs noted repeatedly throughout the Twitter thread that Verizon has received nearly $1 billion in new contracts to maintain the communications equipment for the Pentagon. Indeed, last month the company announced it had won a trio of contracts from the DoD, worth $966.5 million to maintain communications for the Pentagon, the DoD National Capital Region (NCR) and Fort Belvoir.
“Let me conclude this diatribe by saying, @Verizon having functional news coverage of the military is a basic fundamental need of democracy,” Biggs tweeted. “We pay our bill. You get paid millions by the Pentagon. Squeezing a news org so you get paid twice is not just callous, it’s a bit evil.”
Tucker Carlson, Mark Levin Return to Twitter Following Musk Buyout
Fox Business reports that Tucker Carlson, Mark Levin, and other conservative figures have returned to Twiter in the wake of Tesla CEO Elon Musk’s purchase of the company. Carlson was suspended from Twitter previously for supporting tweets from the satirical news website the Babylon Bee.
Fox News host Tucker Carlson was also suspended from the platform for endorsing the Babylon Bee’s tweet and another from Turning Point USA’s Charlie Kik in which he stated that Levine had lived “54 years of his life as a man.”
Carlson posted screenshots of both tweets, stating: “But wait. Both these tweets are true,” and appeared to be suspended as a result. Carlson has since returned to the platform, simply stating: “We’re back.”
USDA Inspector Pleads Guilty to Taking Bribes from Mexican Ranchers
A U.S. agriculture inspector whose job was to keep disease and pests out of the country pleaded guilty to letting ranchers bypass animal quarantines in exchange for bribes. The inspector received between $40,000 and $95,000 from Mexican cattlemen for allowing them to cross into Texas without incident.
Monday, 68-year-old Roberto Adams went before U.S. Magistrate Judge John Kazen in Laredo, where he pleaded guilty to one count of bribery of a public official. Adams was a lead animal health technician with the U.S. Department of Agriculture until he left the service in December 2021, after being discovered. He is expected to go before U.S. District Judge Marina Garcia Marmolejo on August 3 for a sentencing.
The case against Adams began on January 8, 2021, when an anonymous tipster reported him to the USDA Office of Inspector General claiming that an inspector was letting cattle with live ticks into the country.
LA homeless director resigns over pay dispute as tens of thousands on streets: ‘We have designed the crisis’
Heidi Marston, executive director of the Los Angeles Homeless Services Authority (LAHSA), resigned from the board, announced her leave on Twitter and shared her resignation letter on Medium.com.
“Homelessness is a crisis we made,” she wrote. “We can unmake it if we only have the will.”
In her letter, she identified so-called “shadow monsters,” such as “systemic racism,” as well as low wages and high cost of living, lack of access to affordable healthcare, inequity in education and housing, all of which she argued contribute to the origin and growth of homelessness in Los Angeles.
Her resignation comes after Los Angeles County Sheriff Alex Villanueva recently claimed at a public forum last weekend that Los Angeles County has spent a conservative estimate of some $6.5 billion in addressing the homelessness issue over the past ten years, only to see the number of homeless people living in the county increase from about 39,000 people to more than 83,000 in that time frame.

Hertzberg’s legislation, Senate Bill 1327, would:
Create a private right of action for any person against any person who, within this state, manufactures or causes to be manufactured, distributes, transports, or imports into the state, or causes to be distributed or transported or imported into the state, keeps for sale or offers or exposes for sale, or gives or lends any firearm lacking a serial number required by law, assault weapon, .50 BMG rifle, or firearm precursor part, subject to certain exceptions, as specified.
Near the end of SB 1327 the text makes clear that the bill or at least a portion of the bill shall done away with if Texas abortion law changes.
The NRA-ILA observed, “[SB 1327] is aimed at using the gun issue as a political football, making clear that the legislation would become inoperative should the U.S. Supreme Court overturn Texas’s recently passed abortion law or if that law is repealed by the Texas Legislature.”
ABC, CBS and NBC ignore report that Biden met with Hunter Biden business partner at White House in 2010
Hunter Biden’s most prominent investment partner had an official sit-down with then-Vice President Joe Biden in 2010, but Americans who rely on ABC, CBS and NBC for information would have no idea.
ABC’s “Good Morning America” and “World News Tonight,” CBS’ “CBS Mornings” and “Evening News,” and NBC’s “Today” and “Nightly News” all ignored then-Vice President Biden’s meeting with Schwerin from when the Post reported it through Tuesday morning, according to a review of transcripts via Grabien.
ABC, CBS and NBC haven’t mentioned Hunter Biden or Schwerin in any capacity since Saturday.
The meeting with Joe Biden was one of 19 visits Schwerin paid to the White House, where he also met with a variety of aides to the vice president, according to archived visitor logs from the Obama White House.
Florida sheriff defends homeowner who shot at burglar: ‘We prefer that you do, actually’
While the identity of the homeowner who fired the weapon is unknown, Sheriff Johnson assured residents that they would not be in trouble for defending their homes.
Johnson clarified that the homeowner did not hit the intruder and did nothing wrong in the process.
“If someone is breaking into your house, you’re more than welcome to shoot them in Santa Rosa County. We prefer that you do, actually,” Johnson said in a press conference following the break-in.
Johnson classified the suspect as a “frequent flier” because he had previously been arrested 17 times and served a six-and-a-half-year prison sentence for home invasion.
Boston juveniles hurling racial slurs, ‘terrorizing’ downtown arrested again in McDonald’s brawl: police
Three juveniles from the same group of minors accused of stomping on a woman in downtown Boston last week, allegedly targeting her in an unprovoked attack because of her race and hairstyle, were arrested again on Monday after allegedly assaulting McDonald’s employees and police officers.
A police report says a group of minors began throwing rocks and water bottles at customers and employees in the drive thru. One of the workers responded by throwing items back at the minors.
When a cup of soda splashed onto one of the teen’s jeans, the juvenile allegedly came inside and punched the worker in the face. Boston 25 reported the worker dialed 911 but refused medical treatment.
The group of minors came back less than an hour later to try to fight employees, and one of them was spotted allegedly swinging a metal cane toward the restaurant’s lights.
The minors allegedly struck one of the officers and kicked another in the genitals. Three were apprehended but because of their ages were not held in custody and were returned to their parents, Boston 25 reported.

Still, Sen. Elizabeth Warren, D-Mass., who has called for breaking up Big Tech, lamented Musk’s Twitter deal as “dangerous” for democracy.

Secretive Soros-funded group works behind the scenes with Biden admin on policy, documents show
Governing for Impact (GFI), the veiled group, boasts in internal memos of implementing more than 20 of its regulatory agenda items as it works to reverse Trump-era deregulations by zeroing in on education, environmental, health care, housing and labor issues.
GFI, however, works to remain secretive.
It is invisible to internet search engines like Google (an unrelated “Govern for Impact” is the only group that appears in a search).
No news reports or press releases appear on its existence outside of a mention of its related action fund in a previous Fox News article on the $1.6 billion Arabella Advisors-managed dark money network, to which it is attached.
The listing also contained an email address ending in “@governingforimpact.org,” which is the group’s website that can only be accessed by those who know the URL.

DeSantis Signs Bill into Law Creating Election Police Force
On Monday, Florida Governor Ron DeSantis (R-Fla.) signed a bill into law that mandates the creation of a new election police force, with the intention of patrolling voting locations to more effectively crack down on fraudulent practices.
As reported by Politico, the bill implements an idea that was first suggested by DeSantis himself, in the aftermath of widespread voter fraud in numerous key swing states during the 2020 election, which may have been enough to swing the results away from President Donald Trump and in favor of Joe Biden.
The law will see the creation of a new “Office of Election Crimes and Security” within the Florida Department of State, which is authorized to use additional investigators in the Florida Department of Law Enforcement.
The bill allocates $2.6 million for the creation of the task force, and sets aside 25 new positions within the two agencies for this purpose.

Pete Buttigieg Slammed for Filming Ad to Expand DOT as Supply Chain Crisis Continues
Abigail Marone, press secretary for Sen. Josh Hawley (R-MO), slammed Buttigieg for focusing on expanding the agency at taxpayers’ expense instead of resolving the supply chain crises.
“There’s still a supply chain crisis and Pete Buttigieg is literally just filming videos about applying to work at DOT. is this for real?” she asked.
Buttigieg, perhaps feeling that Marone “hit a nerve,” responded to the press secretary and excused the ad because it only took him “about ten minutes” to film. Buttigieg did not mention the expense of the ad or his desire to grow the federal agency with additional employees.
Gov. Ron DeSantis’s (R) press secretary Christina Pushaw also commented on Buttigieg’s tone deaf ad. “Patronizing Pete. @abigailmarone must have hit a nerve!” the tweeted.

Kremlin escalates rhetoric and claims Ukraine is developing nuclear weapons
Russia on Tuesday once again escalated the threat of nuclear warfare amid its illegal campaign in Ukraine by alleging that with the support of the U.S. Kyiv is developing nuclear weapons.
“The need for demilitarization is due to the fact that Ukraine, saturated with weapons, poses a threat to Russia, including from the point of view of the development and use of nuclear, chemical and biological weapons,” Secretary of the Russian Security Council Nikolai Patrushev, said according to state-owned news agencies.
The Kremlin has previously claimed without evidence that Ukraine is developing a nuclear weapon, but it escalated its accusations this week after Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said that the threat of nuclear conflict “is real.”
Last month the UN’s nuclear watchdog, the International Atomic Energy Agency, said there was no evidence that Ukraine was developing any nuclear weapons.
US, Allies Vow Heavy Arms for Ukraine, Shrug Off Russian Nuke Warning
U.S. Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin, welcoming officials from more than 40 countries to Ramstein Air Base in Germany, headquarters of U.S. air power in Europe, said: “Nations from around the world stand united in our resolve to support Ukraine in its fight against Russia’s imperial aggression.
“Ukraine clearly believes that it can win, and so does everyone here,” he said.
The United States has ruled out sending its own or NATO forces to Ukraine but Washington and its European allies have supplied Kyiv with arms including howitzer heavy artillery, drones and anti-aircraft Stinger and anti-tank Javelin missiles.
Russia to suspend gas supplies to Poland

Following the news, Poland’s climate ministry said the country’s energy supplies were secure.
Climate Minister Anna Moskwa said there was no need to draw gas from reserves and gas to customers would not be cut.
PGNiG said its underground gas storage is almost 80% full and with summer approaching demand is lower.
Poland also has alternative supply sources, including a liquefied natural gas terminal (LNG) in Swinoujscie.
And on 1 May, a new gas pipeline connection with Lithuania is due to open that will give Poland access to gas from Lithuania’s LNG terminal.

Anti-Israel Human Rights Watch Head to Step Down After 30 Years
Roth, who is dubbed the “Godfather” of human rights, is also known for his anti-Israel views and last year oversaw the publication of a report accusing Israel of apartheid which Israel said was full of “preposterous false claims.”
Roth, who is Jewish, accused Israel of working to “not only to shut down human rights activity, including by our Israeli partners, but also to deprive Israelis of information about what is happening around them.”
In July, Jewish groups condemned Roth after he blamed Israel for a surge in anti-Semitic incidents in the UK.
Prof. Gerald Steinberg, director of human rights watchdog NGO Monitor, a group that tracks anti-Israel non-profits, welcomed the news of Roth’s resignation.
“In his 30-year reign as head of HRW, Ken Roth has obsessively distorted and exploited human rights to demonize Israel,” Steinberg said.
Kim Jong-un Tells North Korea to Be ‘Fully Prepared’ for Nuclear War at Massive Military Parade
Kim’s call for using the country’s illegal nuclear weapons program to “decisively accomplish” any “unexpected second mission” against the enemies of communism follows weeks of rhetorical escalations out of Pyongyang, including sister Kim Yo-jong threatening South Korea with a nuclear strike and the debut of what North Korea called the “Hwasongpho-17,” allegedly a new model of intercontinental ballistic missile (ICBM).
North Korea has technically remained at war with South Korea and America since 1950, as the two sides never signed a peace treaty. An armistice agreement ended active hostilities in 1953.
“The fundamental mission of our nuclear forces is to deter a war, but our nukes can never be confined to the single mission of war deterrent even at a time when a situation we are not desirous of at all is created on this land,” Kim said in his speech, according to Rodong Sinmun. “If any forces try to violate the fundamental interests of our state, our nuclear forces will have to decisively accomplish its unexpected second mission.”
“The nuclear forces of our Republic should be fully prepared to fulfil[l] their responsible mission and put their unique deterrent in motion at any time,” Kim was quoted as saying.
Explosions rock Moldova after Russia suggests it could be its next target in Europe
At least two blasts this morning targeted radio antennas that broadcast Russian programs in Maiac, a town around seven miles from Moldova’s border with Ukraine, according to officials in the Trans-Dniester region.
They come a day after several explosions believed to be caused by rocket-propelled grenades were reported to have hit the Ministry of State Security in the city of Tiraspol, the region’s capital.
Trans-Dniester, a strip of land with about 470,000 people between Moldova and Ukraine, has been under the control of separatist authorities since a 1992 war with Moldova.
Though a peace treaty between Trans-Dniester and the Moldovan government has been in place, the breakaway state has similarities to the self-proclaimed Donetsk and Luhansk People’s Republics in the Donbas region of Ukraine, which served as Putin’s justification for his illegal invasion in February.
