DOJ brings criminal charges in $150 million alleged COVID fraud schemes

Federal prosecutors have brought criminal charges against 21 people who were allegedly involved in various health care fraud schemes related to the COVID-19 pandemic, the Department of Justice announced Wednesday.
The charges build on previous efforts by the DOJ to clamp down on pandemic-related fraud schemes.
The defendants siphoned off more than $149 million through schemes that included overcharging for medical services and creating and selling fake vaccine cards, among other charges.
Several defendants allegedly used COVID-19 testing to gather patients’ personal information and saliva or blood samples and then submitted claims for more expensive, unnecessary tests, according to the Department’s press release.
U.S. social media giants vowed to remove Russian war propaganda. It’s still there.

The Kremlin and its allies continue to use major U.S. social media platforms to spread war propaganda and disinformation to millions, a Grid review has found, despite the platforms’ vows to ban such content.
On YouTube, Facebook and Instagram, Grid found pro-invasion rhetoric, false war crimes claims against Ukrainians, and even fundraising campaigns for military equipment to aid the Russian invasion.
Following Russia’s invasion of Ukraine in late February, social media giants Google (which owns YouTube) and Meta (which owns Facebook and Instagram) scrambled to quit their roles broadcasting Russian state propaganda to the world. They announced detailed plans about how they would remove or restrict the reach of Russian state media accounts.
Things don’t appear to have gone as the giants planned. Grid found dozens of examples of content prohibited by the platforms’ terms of service or their own public statements of policy:

Missing Trynytee Case: Arkansas man, Tennessee woman arrested after 17-year-old found safe

According to the Hot Springs Police Department, 19-year-old Dayla Ferrer of Memphis, Tennessee, and 38-year-old Samuel Bolling Jr. of Nashville, Tennessee, were booked into the Garland County Detention Center Wednesday morning.
Case was leaving work with a friend when an unknown White woman stated she was lost and asked the teen to come closer to her car so she could use the teen’s phone, KNWA-TV reported, citing police.
Case’s friend had left to bring their car around during this time. When the friend returned Case was gone and wouldn’t answer her phone, KHBS-TV reported.
The friend called Case’s mom, who tried calling her daughter’s phone multiple times. Investigators said Case eventually answered, saying “everything is fine,” before a male voice demanded $10,000 for Case’s return or he would kill her and cut her up, the reports said.
Indiana child found dead in suitcase by mushroom hunter

Indiana State Police are asking the public for help identifying the body of a young, male victim whose body was found stashed in a suitcase.
The victim is black and estimated to be approximately five years-old. Investigators are still unsure of the victim’s cause of death. A toxicology report is still pending, according to local outlet FOX 59.
The suitcase the child’s body was found inside bears a distinctive “Las Vegas” design. It is a hard case piece of luggage with wheels and a roller handle.
Authorities stated that signs point to the victim receiving care from someone before their murder.

Virginia man accused of stalking ex-girlfriend, murdering her husband had not seen woman in 4 years: Cops

Jacob L. Klein and the 29-year-old woman had been in contact via written communication at some time over the past year, but had not seen each other in three to four years, Albany County Sheriff Craig Apple told Fox News Digital.
But last week, he drove to New York and began stalking the woman and her 35-year-old husband, physician assistant Philip Rabadi, for three days before unleashing his violent attack, officials have said.
The 40-year-old then allegedly fatally stabbed Rabadi at the couple’s Albany-area home on the morning of April 13, after Rabadi’s wife had already left for work.
Officers and family members conducted a welfare check at the home on the morning of April 13 after Rabadi never showed up for work. They discovered Rabadi lying dead on the floor of the garage, with “his arms bound with multiple stab wounds and mutilation to his body,” police have said.
California mom outraged after daughter’s attacker released under DA Gascon: ‘No accountability’

14-year-old victim Elisyannah and her mother Cassandra Cisneros detailed the attack, which happened about one year ago in the city of Inglewood, and warned more needs to be done amid a nationwide crime spike on “America’s Newsroom.“
“There was no accountability, and she was only given probation,” Cisneros told co-host Bill Hemmer. “I feel like it’s posed a danger to the community and to my daughter that she’s not even on house arrest, so there’s no way for us to know… where she’s at or what she’s doing.”
Cisneros said her daughter’s attacker bullied her online for a year over a boy before the confrontation in the park. They had previously visited her home to resolve the issue but was told she was out of the country.
The day of the attack was the first time the pair met in person.
New York cops track down Pennsylvania fugitive accused of raping twin girls

A fugitive who is facing charges for allegedly raping 4-year-old twin girls in Pennsylvania will now have to contend with additional charges in New York after cops say he attacked officers who attempted to arrest him.
Officers found Isaiah Metz, 22, at a homeless shelter in Midtown Manhattan early Tuesday, only for Metz to attack, striking members of the Regional Fugitive Task Force in the head repeatedly and biting one on the arm, the New York Post reported. He then reportedly fled the scene.
Metz is facing 115 charges in Pennsylvania for offenses including rape and sexual abuse of children involving photographs or video. He was arrested on March 30 for offenses listed in court records as having taken place on June 12, 2021.
According to the Post, police said Metz had been taken in by a Pennsylvania foster family before he allegedly raped the young girls.
Border Patrol not using Title 42 to expel some Northern Triangle migrants ahead of its May 23 end: sources

Those sources, including National Border Patrol Council President Brandon Judd, told Fox News that the law enforcement agency has largely stopped using Title 42 to remove migrants from Northern Triangle countries, and is instead processing them via Title 8 and expedited removal.
The sources said that the order is technically still in place for those migrants, but only as long as there is space on Title 42 expulsion flights. If those flights are full, the migrants from those countries are put into expedited removal.
Expedited removal allows authorities to quickly remove a migrant without a hearing if they have recently entered the U.S. illegally.
However, the sources told Fox that if a migrant claims they have a fear of persecution, the removal order is changed to a Notice to Appear — meaning they are released into the United States with a future court date. They said that migrants are already spreading the word about what to say to get released into the U.S.

Libs of TikTok creator discusses how WaPo reporter Taylor Lorenz published her identity and how it has impacted her and her family’s lives on ‘Tucker Carlson Tonight.’
The WashPost’s Doxxing of @LibsOfTikTok Reveals Who Corporate Journalists See as Their Targets
Trump-era corporate journalism ceased viewing real power centers as adversaries (CIA/NSA/FBI/WallSt).
The real enemy are citizens with the wrong politics. Rather than confront real power centers, the largest and richest media corporations – eg, the Bezos-owned WPost – allied with those factions and attack citizens.
The 2018 CNN obscenity featured in this video is most illustrative: they confronted an old lady with a tiny pro-Trump FB page on her yard.
We recall when CNN threatened to dox someone who made an anti-CNN meme and when the Daily Beast published dirt and the real name of someone who published a video making Nancy Pelosi look drunk.
This is the key lesson of the latest tawdry episode with the WashPost’s Taylor Lorenz: ever since a Trump presidency became a possibility, the largest liberal media corporations – over and over – have used their vast resources to target and punish private citizens for the wrong politics.

Exclusive: U.S. Chamber seeks to delay confirmation of FTC commissioner

Chamber executive vice president Neil Bradley wrote to Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-N.Y.) and Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) Wednesday, asking that legislators press Bedoya on a number of questions before a full Senate vote on his nomination, which could happen as soon as next week.
Bedoya’s confirmation would give chair Lina Khan a majority at the FTC, allowing her to push forward more aspects of her pro-competition, anti- big business policy agenda that the Chamber has sharply criticized.
The Chamber and the FTC have been at war since Khan become chair, with the Chamber arguing the FTC has not been transparent with the business community and has disrupted regular protocol.
DeSantis admin gives Biden a reality check on care for trans kids

The Florida DOH released a fact sheet challenging claims made by HHS.
Florida Surgeon General Joseph Ladapo accused the federal government’s recommendations of “failing at the most basic level of academic rigor.”
“The federal government’s medical establishment releasing guidance failing at the most basic level of academic rigor shows that this was never about health care,” he said in a statement. “It was about injecting political ideology into the health of our children. Children experiencing gender dysphoria should be supported by family and seek counseling, not pushed into an irreversible decision before they reach 18.”
Reacting to the guidelines, the LGBTQ advocacy group Equality Florida issued a statement accusing Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis’ administration of seeking “to replace science and the safety of young people with political propaganda.”
Jeremy Redfern, the press secretary for the Florida Department of Health, urged critics of the guidelines on Twitter to “Try reading the evidence and fact check.”

Reporter to Chicago’s Lightfoot: How can you ‘possibly even consider’ re-election after ‘harm you’ve caused’

The reporter began by saying the mayor always starts her press conferences by saying that crime is down and the “economy is booming.” Lightfoot said that this wasn’t true and asked the journalist to continue with his question.
The reporter noted that a police officer was recently struck and injured in a hit-and-run and that Michigan Avenue “is now referred to as the mile of fear.”
The mayor said that she “fundamentally” disagreed with the reporter and that she did not want to dignify his comments.
At least 14 people were shot, one fatally, in Chicago over Easter weekend. Police said that no possible suspects for any of the reported shootings were immediately taken into custody.
Obama mocked for initiative to stop ‘spread of disinformation’: ‘No way this will ever be abused’

Commentators from journalist Glenn Greenwald to author Benjamin Weingarten pointed out the irony of a Democrat leader complaining about disinformation when the Hunter Biden laptop story was censored by Democrat-friendly social media companies and the Russia-collusion story was peddled by Obama’s Democrat allies and in the press for the last six years.
In response to one of Obama’s tweets about disinformation, conservative writer Jeryl Bier tweeted a screenshot of a Politifact article which called Obama’s infamous healthcare line the “Lie of The Year.”
Mocking Obama, Bier tweeted, “For instance, you might remember my infamous Lie of the Year, ‘If you like your health care plan, you can keep it’.”
Liberal journalist Glenn Greenwald rebuffed Obama’s tweet with a simple screenshot response. He posted a picture of a 2020 Politico article titled, “Hunter Biden story is Russian disinfo, dozens of former intel officials say.” It’s since been proven that the Hunter Biden laptop story is real and not Russian “disinformation.”

Ukraine war in photos: ‘Now everyone is a fighter’

The other day, Grid reported on Ukraine’s Territorial Defense Forces (TDF), a quasi-military organization that has ballooned from a few hundred members to more than 100,000 since the war began.
These are bakers, barbers, bankers and others who have left their work and volunteered to fight, wherever and whenever the moment comes.
Beyond the TDF, smaller civilian groups have cropped up across the country. It’s one consequence of a powerful patriotism and a feeling — as one Ukrainian told Grid — that “now everyone is a fighter.”
Wednesday’s photos capture this theme in different ways — from those learning how to use highly sophisticated weapons to others training with pieces of wood.

Putin Just Test-Launched a ‘Satan II’ Intercontinental Ballistic Missile

Russia said it test-fired a nuclear-capable intercontinental ballistic missile that Western sources have nicknamed “Satan II”, in the latest case of nuclear saber-rattling from the Kremlin.
Russian President Vladimir Putin on Wednesday watched a video of the missile blasting off during a virtual meeting with top military officials, then congratulated them on the successful launch.
Putin’s remarks left little doubt that the test was explicitly aimed at reminding Western countries that Russia remains a fully-capable nuclear country, at a moment when tensions remain sky-high over Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.
Yellen, Powell walk out of G20 meeting during Russian minister’s speech

State of play: Yellen and Powell were joined by other world leaders, including European Central Bank head Christine Lagarde, Canadian Deputy Prime Minister Chrystia Freeland and Ukraine’s finance minister, Serhiy Marchenko.
- Siluanov was participating in the meeting virtually. Some finance ministers and central bank governors who were also in the meeting virtually turned their cameras off when Russia spoke, per a source familiar with the meeting.
The Treasury Department has been vague all week about Yellen’s plans for participation in the G20 given Russia’s involvement. Wednesday’s walkout appears to be a carefully planned dramatic statement.
Amid Russia’s Donbas offensive, US sends warplanes to Ukraine

Just days after US President Joe Biden announced an $800 million military aid package for Ukraine, the US said Ukraine has received fighter planes and aircraft parts amid the Russian invasion.
However, the type and number of aircraft hasn’t been specified.
Pentagon said Ukraine now has “more fixed-wing fighter aircraft than they did two weeks ago” as the US and Europe declared that they would be sending more aid to Ukraine as it battles Russian forces.
On Tuesday, the US had said the first tranche of military equipment had reached Ukraine’s border with reports indicating NATO soldiers will be training Ukrainian troops on US howitzers.

THIS is why ‘Libs of TikTok’ creator was DOXXED by the left
The creator of Libs of TikTok — a social media account that aggregates far-left videos posted on TikTok — recently was doxxed by Washington Post report Taylor Lorenz (who, ironically, recently sobbed on MSNBC about her own harrowing experiences with haters).
There’s a reason incidences like these keep happening, Glenn explains, even to private citizens who have done NOTHING wrong:
It’s the only way our ‘authoritarian state’ can clamp down on all those who SUCCESSFULLY oppose it: ‘This is intimidation, period.’
