DOJ brings criminal charges in $150 million alleged COVID fraud schemes
Federal prosecutors have brought criminal charges against 21 people who were allegedly involved in various health care fraud schemes related to the COVID-19 pandemic, the Department of Justice announced Wednesday.
The charges build on previous efforts by the DOJ to clamp down on pandemic-related fraud schemes.
The defendants siphoned off more than $149 million through schemes that included overcharging for medical services and creating and selling fake vaccine cards, among other charges.
Several defendants allegedly used COVID-19 testing to gather patients’ personal information and saliva or blood samples and then submitted claims for more expensive, unnecessary tests, according to the Department’s press release.
U.S. social media giants vowed to remove Russian war propaganda. It’s still there.
The Kremlin and its allies continue to use major U.S. social media platforms to spread war propaganda and disinformation to millions, a Grid review has found, despite the platforms’ vows to ban such content.
On YouTube, Facebook and Instagram, Grid found pro-invasion rhetoric, false war crimes claims against Ukrainians, and even fundraising campaigns for military equipment to aid the Russian invasion.
Following Russia’s invasion of Ukraine in late February, social media giants Google (which owns YouTube) and Meta (which owns Facebook and Instagram) scrambled to quit their roles broadcasting Russian state propaganda to the world. They announced detailed plans about how they would remove or restrict the reach of Russian state media accounts.
Things don’t appear to have gone as the giants planned. Grid found dozens of examples of content prohibited by the platforms’ terms of service or their own public statements of policy:

Missing Trynytee Case: Arkansas man, Tennessee woman arrested after 17-year-old found safe
According to the Hot Springs Police Department, 19-year-old Dayla Ferrer of Memphis, Tennessee, and 38-year-old Samuel Bolling Jr. of Nashville, Tennessee, were booked into the Garland County Detention Center Wednesday morning.
Case was leaving work with a friend when an unknown White woman stated she was lost and asked the teen to come closer to her car so she could use the teen’s phone, KNWA-TV reported, citing police.
Case’s friend had left to bring their car around during this time. When the friend returned Case was gone and wouldn’t answer her phone, KHBS-TV reported.
The friend called Case’s mom, who tried calling her daughter’s phone multiple times. Investigators said Case eventually answered, saying “everything is fine,” before a male voice demanded $10,000 for Case’s return or he would kill her and cut her up, the reports said.
Indiana child found dead in suitcase by mushroom hunter
Indiana State Police are asking the public for help identifying the body of a young, male victim whose body was found stashed in a suitcase.
The victim is black and estimated to be approximately five years-old. Investigators are still unsure of the victim’s cause of death. A toxicology report is still pending, according to local outlet FOX 59.
The suitcase the child’s body was found inside bears a distinctive “Las Vegas” design. It is a hard case piece of luggage with wheels and a roller handle.
Authorities stated that signs point to the victim receiving care from someone before their murder.

Virginia man accused of stalking ex-girlfriend, murdering her husband had not seen woman in 4 years: Cops
Jacob L. Klein and the 29-year-old woman had been in contact via written communication at some time over the past year, but had not seen each other in three to four years, Albany County Sheriff Craig Apple told Fox News Digital.
But last week, he drove to New York and began stalking the woman and her 35-year-old husband, physician assistant Philip Rabadi, for three days before unleashing his violent attack, officials have said.
The 40-year-old then allegedly fatally stabbed Rabadi at the couple’s Albany-area home on the morning of April 13, after Rabadi’s wife had already left for work.
Officers and family members conducted a welfare check at the home on the morning of April 13 after Rabadi never showed up for work. They discovered Rabadi lying dead on the floor of the garage, with “his arms bound with multiple stab wounds and mutilation to his body,” police have said.
California mom outraged after daughter’s attacker released under DA Gascon: ‘No accountability’
14-year-old victim Elisyannah and her mother Cassandra Cisneros detailed the attack, which happened about one year ago in the city of Inglewood, and warned more needs to be done amid a nationwide crime spike on “America’s Newsroom.“
“There was no accountability, and she was only given probation,” Cisneros told co-host Bill Hemmer. “I feel like it’s posed a danger to the community and to my daughter that she’s not even on house arrest, so there’s no way for us to know… where she’s at or what she’s doing.”
Cisneros said her daughter’s attacker bullied her online for a year over a boy before the confrontation in the park. They had previously visited her home to resolve the issue but was told she was out of the country.
The day of the attack was the first time the pair met in person.
New York cops track down Pennsylvania fugitive accused of raping twin girls
A fugitive who is facing charges for allegedly raping 4-year-old twin girls in Pennsylvania will now have to contend with additional charges in New York after cops say he attacked officers who attempted to arrest him.
Officers found Isaiah Metz, 22, at a homeless shelter in Midtown Manhattan early Tuesday, only for Metz to attack, striking members of the Regional Fugitive Task Force in the head repeatedly and biting one on the arm, the New York Post reported. He then reportedly fled the scene.
Metz is facing 115 charges in Pennsylvania for offenses including rape and sexual abuse of children involving photographs or video. He was arrested on March 30 for offenses listed in court records as having taken place on June 12, 2021.
According to the Post, police said Metz had been taken in by a Pennsylvania foster family before he allegedly raped the young girls.
Border Patrol not using Title 42 to expel some Northern Triangle migrants ahead of its May 23 end: sources
Those sources, including National Border Patrol Council President Brandon Judd, told Fox News that the law enforcement agency has largely stopped using Title 42 to remove migrants from Northern Triangle countries, and is instead processing them via Title 8 and expedited removal.
The sources said that the order is technically still in place for those migrants, but only as long as there is space on Title 42 expulsion flights. If those flights are full, the migrants from those countries are put into expedited removal.
Expedited removal allows authorities to quickly remove a migrant without a hearing if they have recently entered the U.S. illegally.
However, the sources told Fox that if a migrant claims they have a fear of persecution, the removal order is changed to a Notice to Appear — meaning they are released into the United States with a future court date. They said that migrants are already spreading the word about what to say to get released into the U.S.
