Rep. Maxine Waters (D-Calif.) tried to stop the publication of a news story about Los Angeles’ homeless crisis this week, reportedly telling a Los Angeles Times scribe: “You’ll hurt yourself and the community trying to put this together.”

The Wednesday story by investigative reporter Connor Sheets detailed a March 25 incident in South Los Angeles, where hundreds of homeless people tried to obtain Section 8 housing vouchers after being misled by social media rumors.

The would-be applicants crashed an event held by nonprofit advocacy group Fathers and Mothers Who Care, which had been meant to help the unhoused obtain emergency shelter.

At one point, Waters told the crowd: “I want everybody to go home,” triggering an angry response.

In a 288-page ruling, U.S. District Judge Mark Walker invalidated certain limits the law placed on ballot drop boxes, voter registration by third parties and the distributing of water to those waiting in line to vote, determining the restrictions violated the Voting Rights Act and constitutional protections.

“At some point, when the Florida Legislature passes law after law disproportionately burdening Black voters, this Court can no longer accept that the effect is incidental,” wrote Walker, an Obama appointee to the federal bench in Tallahassee.

“Based on the indisputable pattern set out above, this Court finds that, in the past 20 years, Florida has repeatedly sought to make voting tougher for Black voters because of their propensity to favor Democratic candidates.”

Last week, North Korea launched its Hwasong-17 ICBM, marking its first full test of an ICBM in more than four years, with its largest missile to date.

In the hours after the launch, Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin spoke by phone with his South Korean and Japanese counterparts, though the U.S. took no immediate military response to the launch.

The officials told CNN this week that North Korea recently resumed construction activities and began digging new tunnels, which could be used for such underground nuclear tests.

Commercially available satellite images obtained by CNN also indicated construction activity at the Punggye-ri nuclear test site near Pyongyang.
