Ukraine war: Russian journalist Oksana Baulina killed in Kyiv shelling

Oksana Baulina had been reporting from Kyiv and the western city of Lviv for investigative website The Insider, the outlet said in a statement.
She died while filming damage in the city’s Podil district, it added.
Baulina previously worked for Russian opposition figure Alexei Navalny’s anti-corruption foundation, and had left Russia.
Last year the foundation was made illegal and branded extremist by the authorities, forcing many of its staff to flee abroad.
Man shoots passer-by who told him to stop beating dog, California police say
A man seen beating a dog on a Los Angeles apartment balcony shot a passer-by who yelled at him to let go of the animal, California police reported.
One yelled at the man to “let go of the dog,” police said. The man shouted back, then pulled out a firearm and shot one of the passers-by.
The suspected shooter, whom officers believe was visiting the apartment complex, ran away and remains on the loose. Police ask anyone with information on the incident to call detectives at 213-922-8205 or leave an anonymous tip at 1-800-222-8477.
Russian troops kidnapped and tortured Ukrainian journalist, press organization says
RSF reported the journalist (who they named Nikita to conceal his actual identity) was driving a car with a “press” sign on it when Russian forces fired on the vehicle with automatic weapons. Nikita tried to flee the ambush but crashed into a tree.
RSF said Nikita left the crashed vehicle, shouted that he was a civilian and surrendered to six Russian soldiers, who searched and beat him.
Nikita said despite telling the soldiers he worked for a news organization, they suspected him of acting as a scout for Ukrainian artillery forces in the area.
NATO Boosts Russia Flank with Four New Battle Groups
NATO Secretary-General Jens Stoltenberg said on Wednesday the Western alliance will deploy four new battle groups across Bulgaria, Hungary, Romania, and Slovakia as part of its response to Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.
NATO already has battlegroups in Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, and Poland.
“I expect leaders will agree to strengthen NATO’s posture in all domains with major increases of forces in the eastern part of the alliance, on land, in the air, and at sea. The first step is the deployment of four new NATO battle groups in Bulgaria, Hungary, Romania, and Slovakia,” Stoltenberg told journalists in Brussels.
Russia Talks With North Korea Amid Western Outrage Over Ukraine
Russia’s Foreign Ministry says Moscow and Pyongyang have discussed developing bilateral ties “in the context of changes taking place in the international arena.”
The ministry said in a statement on March 22 that Deputy Foreign Minister Igor Morgulov held talks with North Korea’s ambassador to Russia, Sin Hong-chol.
“During the meeting, issues of the development of bilateral relations in the context of changes taking place in the international arena, as well as topical regional problems, including the situation on the Korean Peninsula, were touched upon,” the statement said.

Born Marie Jana Korbel on May 15, 1937, Albright immigrated to the United States from Czechoslovakia with her family in 1948 following a communist coup.
Her family was Jewish and converted to Roman Catholicism when she was five years old. Three of her Jewish grandparents died in concentration camps.
Albright said she did not learn of her family’s Jewish heritage until after becoming secretary of state.
Salt Lake City police officer assaulted at airport, bystander jumps in to help subdue suspect, video shows
Salt Lake City police have released video showing a bystander jumping in to help an officer who was being assaulted while arresting a suspect at the city’s airport last month.
The incident unfolded after a 28-year-old man rushed past Transportation Security Administration (TSA) officers screening passengers at a security checkpoint in Salt Lake City International Airport on February 17, Salt Lake City police said.
A police officers assigned to the department’s airport division witnessed the disturbance and immediately intervened to stop the man from bypassing the security checkpoint.
Houston Police Officers Shoot Suspect Who Was Charging at Them With a Knife
The Houston Police Department released video of their deadly encounter Feb. 23 with a man accused of fatally shooting a San Jacinto County deputy constable with the officer’s own weapon at the PlazAmericas mall.
San Jacinto Precinct 1 constable deputy Neil Adams, 62, was shot to death by 35-year-old Czyz Deonte Harrison, who was also shot and killed, according to HPD.

4 teens arrested for dragging elderly woman to death, dismembering her arm during carjacking
During a Tuesday morning press conference, New Orleans Police Department Superintendent Shaun Ferguson said two of the juvenile suspects’ parents turned their children in to authorities after police released photos of the suspects.
According to WVUE, family members of Linda Frickey, 73, said she was putting something in her vehicle outside her workplace when four suspects suddenly jumped into her car and drove away.
“She got tangled in her seatbelt because they did not give her time to get out,” Frickey’s sister-in-law Kathy Richard told WDSU.
The carjackers dragged the elderly woman for more than a block before her arm was severed, causing her to fall to the ground.

Twitter Censors Tucker
Fox News host and Daily Caller cofounder Tucker Carlson was censored by Twitter after pointing out the factual accuracy of tweets regarding transgender Assistant Secretary for Health and “Woman of the Year” Rachel Levine.
Carlson posted screenshots Tuesday of tweets written by satirical news outlet The Babylon Bee as well as Turning Point USA founder and executive director Charlie Kirk.
The Babylon Bee lost access to their Twitter account after publishing an article entitled “The Babylon Bee’s Man Of The Year Is Rachel Levine.” The tech company decided that the award violated its “hateful conduct policy.”
Similarly, Kirk was locked out of his account for “hateful conduct” until he removed a tweet where he accurately wrote, “Richard Levine spent 54 years of his life as a man.
Durham to produce ‘large volume’ of classified discovery in Steele dossier source case
The Justice Department plans to produce a “large volume” of classified materials this week in the Russiagate case against the main source for British ex-spy Christopher Steele’s anti-Trump dossier.
Special counsel John Durham made the assertion in a filing Tuesday asking a judge for a deadline extension for the production of classified discovery in accordance with the Classified Information Procedures Act, a law that establishes procedures for protecting classified information in criminal cases. Durham pinned the need for a delay on agency personnel being involved in matters related to Russia’s war in Ukraine.
“However, recent world events in Ukraine have contributed to delays in the production of classified discovery.
The officials preparing and reviewing the documents at the FBI and intelligence agencies are heavily engaged in matters related to Ukraine. Nevertheless, the government will produce a large volume of classified discovery this week and will continue its efforts to produce documents in classified discovery on a rolling basis, and no later than the proposed deadlines set forth below,” Durham added.

CDC Tells New York Times It Hid Covid Data For Political Reasons
The article says when the Centers for Disease Control “published the first significant data on the effectiveness of boosters in adults younger than 65…it left out the numbers for a huge portion of that population: 18- to 49-year-olds, the group least likely to benefit from extra shots.”
“The agency has been reluctant to make those figures public,” according to the Times, “because they might be misinterpreted as the vaccines being ineffective.”
This rationale for deliberately hiding government-collected effectiveness data was even confirmed by the CDC’s spokeswoman, Kristen Nordlund. This taxpayer-funded agency didn’t want to give taxpayers the full picture of vaccine effectiveness—for their own good.
That rationale from the CDC hardly justifies the fact that the selective omission of public health information is more than clinical malpractice; it is scientific fraud.

“This is a major legal victory for children, parental rights, and informed consent,” said Rolf Hazlehurst, senior staff attorney for Children’s Health Defense (CHD) who argued the case. “Government overreach such as this has dire implications for childrens’ health and the constitutional rights of citizens.”
Biden’s war on domestic oil production expands to Wall Street
President Joe Biden may say he wants domestic oil producers to invest the money necessary to increase domestic oil production, but when it comes to actual government action, the Biden administration this week again made it more expensive to produce domestic energy.
By a 3-1 vote, with all Democratic members voting “yes” and the sole Republican member voting “no,” the Securities and Exchange Commission advanced a proposed rule Monday compelling public companies to disclose “climate-related risks” to the government.
The goal of the new regulation is to discourage Wall Street investment managers from giving oil and gas companies the investments they need to increase domestic energy production. Once the regulation is fully implemented, publicly traded companies would be forced to provide data on their own carbon emissions, how much energy they consume, and how many carbon emissions are generated by their suppliers and customers.
Environmental, social, and governance investors would then use this data to deprive fossil fuel producers of the capital they need to increase domestic energy production.
NATO Chief Warns Putin: “Russia Can Never Win A Nuclear War”
Just a day ahead of the Thursday emergency meeting of NATO leaders in Brussels, which Joe Biden will attend in person, Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg has previewed in a new speech that countries will commit to “major increases” in troops along Europe’s ‘eastern flank’.
He also took the opportunity to warn Russia to stop its ‘nuclear saber rattling’ – a day after the Pentagon called recent Kremlin remarks related to a heightened nuclear posture that was raised last month “dangerous”. Stoltenberg stated, “Russia should stop this dangerous irresponsible nuclear rhetoric.” He said, “But let there be no doubt about our readiness to protect and defend allies against any threat anytime.”
“Russia must understand that it can never win a nuclear war,” Stoltenberg added. And despite weapons shipments from the West continuing to reportedly enter Ukraine, he added an important caveat: “NATO is not part of the conflict … it provides support to Ukraine but isn’t part of the conflict.”
“NATO will not send the troops into Ukraine… It is extremely important to provide support to Ukraine and we are stepping up. But at the same time it is also extremely important to prevent this conflict becoming a full-fledged war between NATO and Russia,” he stressed.

One of President Joe Biden’s top donors and “closest friends” has scored millions of dollars in federal contracts and a prestigious job in the White House, according to a Washington Free Beacon review of government records.
Biden in September of last year placed close confidant Joe Kiani, the founder and CEO of the medical technology company Masimo Corporation, on the influential President’s Council of Advisors on Science and Technology.
Kiani’s company, which manufactures various medical devices, has received almost $3 million in federal government contracts since Biden took office in 2021.
Its contracts include funding from the Department of Defense and Department of Health and Human Services.

Wyoming governor signs bill to protect Second Amendment rights from federal overreach
SF0102, also called the Second Amendment Protection Act, prohibits state and local government entities in Wyoming from enforcing “any unconstitutional act, law, treaty, executive order, rule or regulation of the United States government that infringes on or impedes the free exercise of individual rights guaranteed under the Second Amendment to the Constitution of the United States.”
SF0102 had strong support from not only three-quarters of the Legislature, but also law enforcement and gun-rights groups.
“This legislation makes it illegal for state or local officials in Wyoming to enforce or cooperate with unconstitutional federal gun control,” Mark Jones of Gun Owners of America told The Center Square.
