Retired nursing assistant left to sleep on yoga mat at Virginia shelter
When Katherine showed up, however, there weren’t beds or mattresses, according to photos and footage.
Instead, there were yoga mats, four to a room, with a plastic divider.
“It was horrible,” Katherine, who uses a walker, said. “My biggest problem is trying to get up and down. It was horrible.”
That’s what a senior citizen, a former nursing assistant with a broken arm and other medical conditions, was left to sleep on.
Katherine was said to have been kicked out Sunday because of her medical frailty that comes with age.
Teen shot, killed after leaving Philadelphia high school, police say
Thursday morning, police identified the victim as 17-year-old Christopher Braxton.
Police sources told FOX 29 that Braxton had just walked out of the school when he encountered at least one gunman who fired two shots. Braxton was hit once in the chest and was rushed to Penn Presbyterian Hospital where he later died.
No arrests were reported following the deadly shooting and police say the motive remains unknown.
Braxton was a senior student at Bartram High School and lived just a few blocks from where he was killed, family members told FOX 29’s Jennifer Joyce.
According to the latest data provided by the department, there have been 39 homicides in Philadelphia so far this year.
US Army soldier dies on base in Alaska
A U.S. Army soldier died during an on-duty accident on a military base in Alaska on Monday, the U.S. Army first revealed late Wednesday.
Spc. Karolina Ferrer-Padilla, who was assigned to the 6th Brigade Engineer Battalion, 4th Infantry Brigade Combat Team (Airborne), 25th Infantry Division at Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson, died in an unspecified on-duty accident on base, the U.S. Army confirmed in an emailed statement Wednesday.
Padilla’s on-duty death came days after two U.S. Marines were killed in an on-duty accident when the medium tactical vehicle replacement (MTVR) they were riding in rolled over, near Marine Corps Base Camp Lejeune, NC. 17 more Marines were injured in the accident.
Several other U.S. Army soldiers assigned to duty stations in Alaska have died in recent months.
5.4 million Americans became first-time gun owners in 2021
The president of the National Shooting Sports Foundation (NSSF), Joe Bartozzi, said, “The surveys revealed that new gun owners are continuing to embrace their Second Amendment rights, and nearly half of them are seeking out professional training.”
He continued, “These trends show that not only is there still a strong interest in gun ownership but also that these new gun owners are interested in learning more about the safe and responsible handling, use, and storage of firearms.”
NSSF reported in its annual Firearm Retailer Survey that, in 2021, more than one-third of first-time gun buyers were women, 44% of firearm retailers saw an increase in sales to African-Americans, 40% saw an increase in sales to Hispanic Americans, and more than 27% increased sales to Asian Americans.
CA city forcing gun owners to buy liability insurance, pay annual fee
Gun owners who violate the new law will not face criminal charges and won’t have their firearms seized, but they will be subjected to fines.
The council also voted in favor of a yearly gun ownership fee of $25, which would be collected by a nonprofit that has not been chosen yet. The money would then be distributed to community groups for firearm safety training and suicide prevention, as well as domestic violence and mental health services.
Within hours of the new measure’s passage, The National Association for Gun Rights and gun owner Mark Sikes sued San Jose in federal court.
Oklahoma executes man for 2001 murders of two hotel workers
Donald Grant, 46, received a lethal injection at the Oklahoma state penitentiary in McAlester and was declared dead at 10.16am.
It was the first execution in the US in 2022 and the third in Oklahoma since the state resumed lethal injections in October following a nearly seven-year hiatus.
John Grant’s execution was the state’s first since problems with the state’s lethal injection in 2014 and 2015 led to a de facto moratorium.
Richard Glossip was just hours away from being executed in September 2015 when prison officials realized they received the wrong lethal drug.

Dallas Private School Lies To Parents About Teaching Students Racism
Amid ongoing supervision from parents across America, the Episcopal School of Dallas has sought to reassure parents it is not teaching critical race theory or targeting students on the basis of their race.
Despite this attempt, documents obtained by The Federalist prove that the institution is teaching critical race theory while telling parents it’s not.
The elite private school, which bears a whopping tuition price of $26,945 for kindergarteners and $34,075 for high school seniors, sought to insulate itself from backlash on its Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion page, which preemptively responds to common critiques.
One Episcopal School of Dallas reading assignment for a middle school history class titled “This Thing Called White” exhibited the defining characteristics of CRT.
The assignment claimed that “Whiteness is a constantly shifting boundary separating those who are entitled to have certain privileges from those whose exploitation and vulnerability to violence is justified by their not being white.”
Parents Outraged: 4th-5th Graders Asked to Join Queer Club Without Their Consent
At a January 18 virtual school board meeting, parents of children aged 9-11 years who attend Raleigh Hills Elementary School expressed concern about the appropriateness of the club, reported Reduxx the following day.
Parent Bambi addressed the school board (video begins at 56:18) regarding her experience with the school principal’s alleged dismissal of her concerns:
So, I’m a parent of a fourth grader who had some fifth grade students come into her classroom and do a presentation on an LGBTQ club. My daughter was asked to sign up and she did because everybody was doing it and she thought that that’s what she should do.
I then became aware of email conversations back and forth between the principal and other school officials dating back to November of last year. The emails showed this club being planned out and how to go around needing parents’ permission.
These meetings are taking place during the school day and, per the emails, that was one of the ways to be able to get around parents needing to approve it. The emails instruct transparency, but only if a parent asks. Nothing came home with my daughter or was sent to me from the school explaining such a presentation was going to take place in the classroom. I was not given the opportunity to opt her out.

Woman Sneaks Ivermectin Into Hospital, Saves Husband’s Life
“The husband was very ill,” Dr. Balbona told the Epoch Times. “He’s in his 50s, a big strong guy. She called me desperate because they [the hospital] gave him remdesivir and she made them stop it, and he started getting worse and worse. And his oxygen demand went up.”
Balbona told the woman he could care for her husband once she got him out of the hospital. He wrote her prescriptions for the meds she would need. She filled them out, snuck them into the hospital, and gave them to her husband.
That was on Friday. By Tuesday he was well enough to be discharged from the hospital.
“The people who snuck in the ivermectin, they are scared to death,” Balbona stated. “She is sure that the government is going to find out who she is and possibly arrest her for giving medications not approved by the hospital.”
Judge Orders Oath Keepers Leader to Remain in Jail Through His Trial
Rhodes’ attorney has said in a statement that the allegations are baseless.
“The bald-faced myth that anyone wanted to stop the certification is inexcusable,” attorney Jonathon Moseley said in a statement to The Hill.
“The claims in the detention motion of Stewart Rhodes — which apply to other Oath Keepers as well like Kelly Meggs — are fiction. We know that the prosecutors know that what they claim is totally false. We have the documents. We have the videos. The prosecutors know that we know that they know that their narrative is a John Grisham novel, totally false.”
This case is being prosecuted by the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of Columbia and the Department of Justice National Security Division’s Counterterrorism Section. The U.S. Attorney’s Offices in the Northern District of Texas and the District of Arizona have also provided assistance.
Over 725 people have been arrested for the protest, from every state in the nation.
University conspired with students to oust professor who criticized slavery reparations: lawsuit

Sean Caddle, who worked on campaigns in 2013 and 2017 for New Jersey state senator Ray Lesniak (D.), on Tuesday admitted to one count of conspiracy to commit murder.
In 2014, the New Jersey native paid out-of-state conspirators thousands of dollars to travel to the Jersey City home of former associate Michael Galdieri, stab Galdieri, and set his apartment on fire. It is unclear what the motive was.
Caddle also worked on campaigns for former state assemblyman and failed Jersey City mayoral candidate Louis Manzo and successful Jersey City mayoral candidate Bret Schundler.

From 2015 to 2019, for example, Soros spent more than $17 million on local DA races, according to the Capital Research Center. That figure has likely risen in the past couple years, experts say.
In 2020, the Foundation to Promote Open Society, a grantmaking foundation in Soros’s network, gave $3 million to the Community Resource Hub for Safety and Accountability, which provides resources to activists and organizations “working to address the harm of policing in the U.S.”

Rising GOP Star Winsome Sears Sets Sights on Federal Election Power-Grab
Virgina Lt. Gov. and rising Republican star Winsome Sears noted the Democrats’ hypocrisy this week, suggesting that their photo ID requirement for attendance at a posh fundraising event is stricter than their voting ID requirements, Just the News reported.
According to Sears, the Democrats’ double-standard makes a mockery out of voting, the only real type of civic participation still permitted by our illegitimate state.
She also added that the ballot, rather than vaccine passports, must be kept “sacrosanct.”
“I thought you said you were for the little people, you know?” Sears said. “So if a photo ID is required to enter your event as Democrats, then why shouldn’t you have a photo ID to come to the polls?”
Sears concluded her speech by calling on Republican voters to stop complaining about election fraud, and get involved in order to help stop it next time.
“You can’t complain about elections and not offer yourself to say, ‘Well, I’m going to ensure that our elections are what they should be.’ And so that’s what we’re saying to people: ‘Get involved.’”
New York Democrats redraw congressional map, target lone Republican in NYC delegation
Democrats plan to redraw Malliotakis’ 11th congressional district – which primarily includes Staten Island and a tiny section of Brooklyn – to include a much larger part of the liberal-leaning borough to include neighborhoods of Gowanus, Park Slope, Red Hook, Sunset Park and Windsor Terrace, according to the New York Post.
The district in its current configuration is considered “purple” – essentially an even mix Democrat and Republican voters.
A bipartisan redistricting commission in New York failed to agree on a plan to redraw the state maps following the 2020 census, which means total control of the redistricting process falls into the hands of the Democrat-controlled state Senate and Assembly.

Russia remains open but ‘not optimistic’ over Ukraine talks
On Thursday, Vladimir Putin’s chief spokesman, Dmitry Peskov, said “there isn’t much reason to be optimistic” after the US and Nato rejected Moscow’s demands for a veto on Ukraine’s potential membership of Nato in a co-ordinated response the day before.
Moscow needed time to analyse the US document and would not “rush into assessments”, Peskov added.
Russia’s foreign minister, Sergei Lavrov, said Moscow’s main concern – the potential for Ukraine to join Nato – had not been addressed, but there was hope “for the start of a serious conversation on secondary issues”.
“There is no positive response in this document on the main issue,” he said.
One of Lavrov’s spokespeople appeared to rule out war with Ukraine, in comments that led to a jump in the value of the Russian rouble, as investors gained confidence that conflict could be avoided.

Poland starts building wall through protected forest at Belarus border
The Polish border guard said the barrier would measure 186km (115 miles), almost half the length of the border shared by the two countries, reach up to 5.5 metres (18ft) and cost €353m (£293m). It will be equipped with motion detectors and thermal cameras.

Sweden decides against recommending COVID vaccines for kids aged 5-12
“With the knowledge we have today, with a low risk for serious disease for kids, we don’t see any clear benefit with vaccinating them,” Health Agency official Britta Bjorkholm told a news conference.
She added that the decision could be revisited if the research changed or if a new variant changed the pandemic. Kids in high-risk groups can already get the vaccine.
Sweden’s government on Wednesday extended restrictions, which included limited opening hours for restaurants and an attendance cap for indoor venues, for two weeks but said it hoped to remove them on Feb. 9.

Holocaust survivors and politicians warned about the resurgence of antisemitism and Holocaust denial as the world remembered Nazi atrocities and commemorated the 77th anniversary of the liberation of the Auschwitz concentration camp on Thursday.
“I have lived in New York for 75 years, but I still remember well the terrible time of horror and hatred,” survivor Inge Auerbacher, 87, told the German parliament. “Unfortunately, this cancer has reawakened and hatred of Jews is commonplace again in many countries in the world, including Germany.”
Commemorations took place amid a rise of antisemitism that gained traction during lockdowns as the coronavirus pandemic exacerbated hatred online.
“This sickness must be healed as quickly as possible,” Auerbacher said.

Public-health officials ruined many lives by insisting that workers with natural immunity to Covid-19 be fired if they weren’t fully vaccinated.
But after two years of accruing data, the superiority of natural immunity over vaccinated immunity is clear. By firing staff with natural immunity, employers got rid of those least likely to infect others. It’s time to reinstate those employees with an apology.
For most of last year, many of us called for the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention to release its data on reinfection rates, but the agency refused.
Finally last week, the CDC released data from New York and California, which demonstrated natural immunity was 2.8 times as effective in preventing hospitalization and 3.3 to 4.7 times as effective in preventing Covid infection compared with vaccination.
Covid-19 Policies Are Hurting Kids More Than Virus Itself
We all know how adults are coping with the pandemic, but we’re grown-ups. We can handle it.
The COVID-19 pandemic through the eyes of a child looks something like this: No school, no recess, no friends. Remote learning. Math on an app and English on a computer, sometimes without an adult nearby to help.
Back to school. Desks six feet apart. Masks. No uncovered faces, no expressions. No physical cues to communicate. Increased anxiety. Washing hands. Wiping down desks. Substitute teachers. Worried parents. Missed assignments. Endless quarantines.
COVID-19 policies in liberal states are hurting kids even more than the disease is.
In Montgomery County, Maryland, a bastion of liberalism just outside of the nation’s capital, health officials say the county wants to implement a vaccine passport to increase vax rates among children 5-11 years old, despite no research available about the possible long-term effects of the shots.
If they don’t comply? They’re banned from living life. (Think dining out, concerts, etc.) The risk of getting COVID-19, much less dying from it, is minuscule, yet kids won’t be able to get out and be able to experience some of the small joys of life.
