California City Giving Blacks Housing for ‘Theft’ of Homes to Build Highways
Beginning in January, those former residents and their descendants will get “priority access to apartments with below-market rents in the hopes that they’ll come back to the coastal city in Los Angeles County.”
Nichelle Monroe, who said in a Sacramento Bee article that her grandparents were “forced out” of the Pico neighborhood, said she doesn’t think the program goes far enough. She wants help buying a home of her choice.
“But what else is there?” Monroe said. “The theft is still there. The generational wealth is still gone.”

Silk Road Founder Jailed– Drug Sales UP
The FBI announced a big victory: They’d shut down the illegal online drug market “Silk Road”.
They said that’d prevent drug sales and save lives. A judge sentenced Ross Ulbricht, a young libertarian who created the website, to double-life plus 40 years with no chance of parole. The judge called her sentence a “warning to others.”
But is it really fair to lock Ulbricht up for life?
John Stossel interviews Lyn Ulbricht, Ross’s mom, who says her son was just an overly-zealous libertarian who “Believed in free markets and volunteerism. He’s not a dangerous person.”
A New Ban on Surprise Medical Bills Starts This Week
Several studies found that around 20 percent of U.S. patients who had emergency care were treated by someone outside of their insurance network, including emergency room doctors, radiologists or laboratories. Any of those providers could send patients an extra bill after the fact, and some medical groups did so routinely. Such bills are now illegal.
There is one important exception.
The new law does not prevent ambulance companies from billing you directly for their services if they travel on roads. It does offer protections against surprise bills from air ambulances.
For scheduled services, like knee operations, C-sections or colonoscopies, it’s important you choose a facility and a main doctor that is in your insurance plan’s network. If you do that, the law bars anyone else who treats you from sending you a surprise bill.
This also addresses a large problem. Surprise bills from anesthesiologists, radiologists, pathologists, assistant surgeons and laboratories were common before.
New 2022 California laws on COVID-19, housing and policing
In all, Gov. Gavin Newsom considered 836 bills covering a range of topics, a mix of proposals prompted by the current COVID crisis as well as items that have been hotly debated for years. Newsom vetoed only 66 of the bills that made it to his desk.
The Times’ list highlights 43 noteworthy new laws for 2022, including several that were approved years earlier but are only taking effect now. Most of those listed take effect on New Year’s Day. As in years past, the list mostly reflects the interests of the Democrats who hold a supermajority of seats in both the state Senate and Assembly.
Some of the most notable new laws make significant changes in criminal justice, law enforcement oversight and healthcare.
Youth gain lemonade stand freedom as 287 new Illinois laws set to take effect
The new year brings 287 new laws to Illinois – including one that will allow children to operate a lemonade stand without having to go through the red tape of acquiring a government permit.
Also starting Jan. 1, Illinois State flags bought by state institutions must be made in the United States. And private insurance plans regulated by the state must provide pancreatic cancer screenings.
Dry needling is also allowed as physical therapy beginning Saturday.
For the state’s younger residents, perhaps the most relevant measure taking effect Saturday allows kids to operate lemonade stands without having to get a permit from a local health department.
Pentagon Building New Secret Courtroom at Guantánamo Bay
The Pentagon is building a second courtroom for war crimes trials at Guantánamo Bay that will exclude the public from the chamber, the latest move toward secrecy in the nearly 20-year-old detention operation.
Members of the public seeking to watch those proceedings at Guantánamo would be shown a delayed video broadcast in a separate building.
It is the latest retreat from transparency in the already secretive national security cases at the base, where the military and intelligence agencies have been restricting what the public can see.
That includes forbidding photography of sites that were once routinely shown to visitors and declaring both populated and emptied wartime prison facilities off limits to reporters.

2021: 1.9M Migrants Apprehended Along Southwest Border, 500K ‘Got Aways’
Unofficial numbers indicate that Border Patrol agents assigned to the nine southwest border sectors apprehended approximately 1,929,000 migrants who illegally crossed between ports of entry in 2021.
Official U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) reports revealed that agents apprehended 1,773,674 migrants through the first 11 months of the year.
A source operating under the umbrella of CBP told Breitbart Texas that, with three days to go, agents apprehended approximately 156,000 migrants in December to date.
In addition to the apprehension of migrants, officials disclosed to Breitbart that a minimum 428,000 migrants are reported as “got aways.” The known got-away count is updated daily by the Border Patrol, according to the source.

The FAIR analysis points to Biden’s “litany of incentives put in place” for illegal aliens to come to the U.S. “combined with the simultaneous ratcheting down of interior and border enforcement.”
Portland Antifa rioter charged with assaulting police has case dismissed after 30 hours community service
Eva Warner of Beaverton, Oregon, who police said was also known as Joshua Warner, was charged in September 2020 with felony civil disorder.
Portland Police said Warner directed a high-powered laser into the eyes of law enforcement officers trying to disperse the crowd. Warner resisted arrest, prompting officers to use force, the DOJ said. A laser pointer was found on Warner.
About a week later, Warner was arrested again and charged with second-degree criminal mischief in connection with another riot. Warner was again released from custody without bail.
A week after that, Warner was arrested a third time in connection with yet another riot and charged with interfering with a peace officer and second-degree disorderly conduct. Warner was once again released without bail.
HCSO searching for three suspects accused of murdering man after stealing friend’s dogs
Officials need your help identifying three suspects on the loose, accused of murdering a man after stealing his friend’s dogs. Authorities said the suspects offered to give back the dogs, at a price.
Deputies say the dog owner and his friend then met up for the exchange just before 6 p.m. Tuesday, but instead, a fight ensued, and several bullets were fired.
Mankarious says this murder is another example of why harsher punishments are needed.
“For over two years now we’ve been sounding the alarm that we are reshaping our county, so that crime pays,” Mankarious said. “We’re emboldening criminals, and we’re encouraging them really through these policies to go out there and commit crime. And I think as they’re doing that, they too are getting creative.”
Police: Gulf Breeze woman flew daughter, 12, from Texas to Georgia for sex with man
“Our agency was contacted by Arlington Police Department in Texas regarding an investigation started in Texas that included incidents in Gwinnett,” Gwinnett County Police said.
According to police, Klein and Hoxha arranged for Klein’s 12-year-old daughter to fly from Texas to the Atlanta area and paid for a hotel for the girl to stay.
Gwinnett County Police detectives searched Hoxha’s home in Buford, finding “large sums of cash” and explicit photos of the 12-year-old girl.
Investigators added that Hoxha and the victim had been messaging prior to her being flown to Georgia, some of which were sexually explicit in nature.

Netroya B, a soon-to-be ex-sales adviser at the street-fashion retailer’s location in New York City’s World Trade Center Oculus, has shared unsettling snapshots of insect-infested clothes allegedly being sold to unsuspecting customers.
She went on to suggest that the shop’s managers and executives were aware of the parasitic outbreak, but decided not to stop the flow of business.
“They’re not closing the store nor are they notifying employees of the problem,” the Brooklyn native claimed. “The section was just blocked off.”
Obama’s Favorite Bank Gives January 6 Committee Trump Aide’s Private Records
Budowich, according to the Washington Times, was only informed Wednesday that the bank had complied with a committee subpoena.
As Breitbart News reported earlier this week, Budowich only found out about the subpoena on December 23, and filed a lawsuit on December 24 challenging the legality and constitutionality of the committee’s subpoena.
The bank and the committee did not wait for the courts to rule, and the bank–represented by former Obama administration Attorney General Loretta Lynch — complied with the subpoena, with Budowich only learning about that fact from the federal judge in his case.
Lynch is remembered for a secretive meeting with former President Bill Clinton on the tarmac at an Arizona airport in 2016 while the Department of Justice was investigating his wife, Hillary Clinton, over her handling of State Department emails.

Critics blast Whitmer over latest audit uncovering $8.5 billion more in UIA misappropriations
The Deloitte audit results were announced Wednesday, one month after the Michigan Auditor General reported the UIA erroneously remitted nearly $4 billion in Pandemic Unemployment Assistance, the program paid from the federally funded Coronavirus Aid, Relief and Economic Security Act.
Some of the $4 billion blunder was attributed to UIA’s erroneous application of eligibility criteria, and, according to the Detroit News, the UIA claims an unspecified amount of that number may have been counted in the fraudulent claims uncovered by the Deloitte audit.
The UIA has been under fire since the beginning of the pandemic in March 2020. Former UIA Director Steve Gray resigned in November 2020, and received a $85,872 severance package, which was sealed with a confidentiality agreement regarding his job performance and departure.
“The UIA and the billions they have paid out in fraudulent claims is a massive hit to taxpayers and the credibility of our government under Gretchen Whitmer,” Eric Ventimiglia, executive director for Michigan Rising Action, said.

Number of Fake ‘Child’ Migrants in Britain More Than Triples in a Year
In the year to September 2021, some 1,118 migrants were found to have lied about being children — likely due to the fact that being a child, and especially a so-called unaccompanied minor, speeds up asylum applications and makes removal from the country harder — according to Home Office figures reported by The Telegraph.
The true figure is likely higher, as it has been policy not to even challenge migrants claiming to be children — that is, 17 or younger — unless they appear to be “at least 25 years old”.
Indeed, a previous scheme to import supposed migrant children directly from Calais, France was quietly wrapped up after photographs of what were supposed to be stringently-vetted arrivals showed the great majority had the appearance of being men who in some cases were not even particularly young.
