MIAMI BEACH, Fla.—A gunman fatally shot a tourist eating dinner with his family at a Miami Beach restaurant as the man protected his 1-year-old son, police and a family member said.
Tamarius Blair David Jr., 22, of Norcross, Georgia, told investigators he shot Dustin Wakefield, 21, on Tuesday night because he “was high on mushrooms, which made him feel empowered,” according to his arrest report.
New NY Governor Discloses 12,000 Additional COVID Deaths Previously Obscured By Cuomo Administration

New York Gov. Kathy Hochul disclosed on her first day in office nearly 12,000 COVID-19 deaths that were previously unreported in the state’s data tracker during former Gov. Andrew Cuomo’s administration.
The New York State Department of Health’s COVID-19 data tracker reported Wednesday nearly 55,395 virus deaths in the state reported to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention since the start of the pandemic, just under 12,000 more than the roughly 43,400 COVID-19 deaths disclosed in the state-managed tracker on Cuomo’s last day in office.
The Cuomo administration previously defended its decision to obscure the full COVID-19 fatality figures from its state-managed data, saying the public could seek out the CDC for a more thorough accounting.
“We’re now releasing more data than had been released before publicly, so people know the nursing home deaths and the hospital deaths are consistent with what’s being displayed by the CDC,” Hochul said on MSNBC on Wednesday, the Associated Press reported. “There’s a lot of things that weren’t happening and I’m going to make them happen. Transparency will be the hallmark of my administration.”

Illegal Immigrant Sentenced For Scheme Where He Conspired With Law Enforcement To Steal Drugs From Mexican Cartel

Mexican national Dimas DeLeon Rios, 47, pleaded guilty to possessing over five kilograms of cocaine with the intent to distribute the narcotics in November 2017, according to the Department of Justice (DOJ). U.S. District Judge Keith P. Ellison ordered DeLeon to federal prison for 15 years and may face removal after release.
DeLeon led a drug trafficking organization and tampered with an investigation into three witnesses, according to the DOJ. A 2011 investigation targeting narcotics transportation and distribution found the organization stealing cocaine and marijuana from its supply source and used law enforcement officials to cover up the thefts by creating and seizing fake bundles of drugs.
“DeLeon helped facilitate the distribution of more than 194 kilograms of cocaine during the course of the conspiracy,” according to the DOJ. “He and others were hired to transport the cocaine, but instead stole and sold it for profit.”
YouTube Removed Over 1 Million ‘Dangerous’ Videos Related To COVID-19
YouTube has removed over one million videos on its platform containing alleged misinformation related to COVID-19.
The Google-owned company announced the figure in a blog post Wednesday titled “Perspective: Tackling Misinformation on YouTube,” written by Neil Mohan, YouTube’s chief product officer.
“Since last February we’ve removed over 1 million videos related to dangerous coronavirus information, like false cures or claims of a hoax,” Mohan said. The company focuses on removing content that can directly lead to “egregious real world harm,” according to Mohan.
YouTube received criticism for its enforcement of its COVID-19 misinformation policies after it suspended Sen. Rand Paul’s account, and removed several of his videos, over claims that cloth masks were not effective at stopping the spread of the virus. The tech company also removed Rep. Nicole Malliotakis’ video of a press conference announcing her lawsuit against New York City over vaccine mandates.
Parler CEO slams social media for giving ‘free rein’ to Middle East terrorist groups

Parler CEO George Farmer slammed social media for giving “free rein” to Middle East terrorist groups, saying on Wednesday that he has no qualms about banning the Taliban from his platform.
He noted on “Mornings with Maria” on Wednesday that other social media platforms have directly censored a sitting U.S. president, but decided not to censor terrorist groups based in the Middle East.
“You’ve got Trump being labeled as a dictator in the United States and then of course when it comes to a real dictator in the Far East or when it comes to a real terrorist group out in the Middle East, you have social media giving free rein,” Farmer told host Maria Bartiromo.
Supreme Court Rules Biden Administration Must Restart Trump’s ‘Remain in Mexico’ Policy

The Supreme Court’s conservative majority agreed that the administration did not justify the policy change. The administration “failed to show a likelihood of success on the claim that the memorandum rescinding the Migrant Protection Protocols was not arbitrary and capricious,” the court said.
Liberal Justices Stephen G. Breyer, Sonia Sotomayor and Elena Kagan would have granted the administration’s request particularly using the pandemic-related evictions moratorium as justification.
Now, “the court is considering a request that it dissolves the pandemic-related evictions moratorium implemented by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, about which the court’s most conservative justices have already expressed skepticism” reports the Post.
The Post writes that the court’s action “could be an ominous sign or the new administration.” Additionally, “it is unclear exactly what effect the ruling will have” because the Department of Homeland Security said in a statement that it will continue to challenge the district court ruling.

Pfizer’s FDA Approval Could Open Floodgates or Corporate Vaccine Mandates
The Food and Drug Administration’s clearance of Pfizer’s COVID-19 vaccine, which had been rolled out to the public for emergency-use only, paves the way for more employers to require that their workers get jabbed.
Although a number of businesses, colleges and other organizations were already requiring workers to be inoculated, many corporations have been hesitant to implement a mandate for a drug not yet fully approved by regulators. Labor attorneys expect Monday’s announcement by the FDA to open the floodgates for mandates across the board.
The Defender’s COVID NewsWatch provides a roundup of the latest headlines related to the SARS CoV-2 virus, including its origins and COVID vaccines.
New CDC Studies Point to Waning Immunity From Vaccines
Two new studies from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention show fully vaccinated Americans’ immunity to COVID-19 is waning as the more-transmissible Delta variant continues to spread across the country.
One study, which focused on frontline health care workers, found that vaccine effectiveness declined by nearly thirty percentage points since the Delta variant became the dominant strain in the U.S. The analysis also concluded that the COVID-19 vaccines were 80% effective in preventing infection among the frontline health care workers.
New Evidence Points to Antibodies as Reliable Indicator of Vaccine Protection
When Dr. Anthony Fauci spoke recently at a White House briefing about the need for COVID-19 booster shots, buried in his slideshow of charts and data points was a little-noticed scientific paper that offers evidence for a reliable way to predict how much protection a COVID-19 vaccine offers.
The study appeared on a preprint server earlier this month without much fanfare, but many interested in the future of COVID-19 vaccines had been eagerly awaiting the results.
The researchers were looking for markers in vaccinated patients’ blood that would indicate protection against COVID-19, what’s known as “correlates of immunity.” What the team of scientists found were neutralizing antibodies — proteins made by the immune system that are known to disarm the coronavirus.
Biden to Receive a Classified Report on The Origins of COVID-19
Leila Fadel, host:
Today marks 90 days since President Biden ordered a systematic review into the origins of the coronavirus. Many scientists believe that the virus likely came from nature. But an alternative view is that it leaked from a laboratory in China, a theory that had been dismissed by many as a conspiracy theory until recent months. Joining us to discuss what this report might say is NPR’s science and security correspondent Geoff Brumfiel.
2 Things Mainstream Media Didn’t Tell You About FDA’s Approval of Pfizer Vaccine

The press reported that vaccine mandates are now legal for military, healthcare workers, college students and employees in many industries. New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio has now required the vaccine for all teachers and school staff. The Pentagon is proceeding with its mandate for all military service members.
But there are several bizarre aspects to the FDA approval that will prove confusing to those not familiar with the pervasiveness of the FDA’s regulatory capture, or the depths of the agency’s cynicism.
First, the FDA acknowledges that while Pfizer has “insufficient stocks” of the newly licensed Comirnaty vaccine available, there is “a significant amount” of the Pfizer-BioNTech COVID vaccine — produced under Emergency Use Authorization (EUA) — still available for use.
Nearly 90% of rental assistance funds not yet distributed

In July, “more than 340,000 households received nearly $1.7 billion in rental and utilities assistance, a roughly 15% increase in households served compared to June, and more than double the number of households served in May,” the Treasury Department said in a press release on Wednesday.
Though July saw a small increase in distribution compared to previous months, the Emergency Rental Assistance Program has disbursed about $5.1 billion total of the $46.5 billion rental aid program. That means about 11% of the cash allocated by Congress to the program has been distributed.
The figures come after the Biden administration asked the Supreme Court on Monday to leave the pandemic-related federal ban on residential evictions in place as landlord groups challenge the legality of it.
FBI raids Detriot city hall and homes of council members: ‘culture of corruption’

The FBI is executing search warrants at the homes of Detroit City Council members Janeé Ayers and Scott Benson, as well as offices in the city’s Coleman A. Young Municipal Center.
The raids are the largest federal investigation into Detroit city hall corruption since former Detroit Mayor Kwame Kilpatrick was convicted eight years ago on racketeering conspiracy charges, the outlet reported.
More than 100 politicians, union bosses and police officers have been charged with corruption in Michigan’s eastern district since 2008.
Only 5 Percent Of People Evacuated From Afghanistan By The US Are Americans

More than 82,300 have been airlifted from Kabul since the government’s collapse nearly two weeks ago, but the Pentagon says that, as of Wednesday, only 4,400 Americans were rescued in those evacuation operations.
The State Department also confirmed that a majority of the people whisked away on flights from Kabul are not U.S. citizens.
On Tuesday, Politico national security reporter Alex Ward reported leaked numbers indicating that in just 15 hours on Aug. 23, the United States evacuated approximately 6,916 people from Afghanistan. Only 483 of those were American citizens while the rest were Aghan nationals.

Every Republican Signs Petition Demanding Nancy Pelosi Allow Vote to Stop Infanticide

Congressman Jake Ellzey was just elected in a special election in Texas and the lawmaker added his name to the Born-Alive Abortion Survivors Protection Act discharge petition today. In so doing, he raised to 213 the number of House Members who have joined forces to attempt to bring this anti-infanticide measure to the House floor for a vote.
And his signature means every Republican, including the moderate Republicans who have irked conservatives on other issues, have signed. But Democrats are refusing to support a vote on a bill that would merely make sure babies who survive abortions received appropriate medical care and treatment.
As one pro-life advocate tells LifeNews, if just 5 brave Democrats would stand up and take on Pelosi, the petition would reach its goal of 218 signatures and the Born Alive bill would get a vote on the House floor.

Former California Democratic majority leader endorses Larry Elder in campaign against Gov. Newsom

“Our public schools need big change. I’m Gloria Romero; I was the majority leader of Democrats in the state senate. I believe in charter schools and and school choice. So does Larry Elder — but not Gavin Newsom. He shut our public schools while he sent his kids to private schools,” Romero says in a video released by the Elder campaign.
“Yes: I’m a Democrat. But the recall of Newsom is not about political party. It’s about Newsom. Larry Elder for governor,” she adds.
Romero served as the Democratic majority leader in the state senate from 2001 until 2008, when she stepped down to become chairman of the Education Committee.
Elder currently leads the pack of Republican candidates looking to replace Gov. Gavin Newsom in the Sept. 14 recall election.

Justin Trudeau was back in BC this morning, speaking about housing outside a property in the Vancouver suburb of Surrey.
After making his remarks, the Prime Minister faced a chorus of “boos” from protestors, many of whom decried the Liberal government’s attempts to get Canadians vaccinated. “You ruin families!” one man yelled.
As Trudeau attempted to leave, he was tailed by a mob of protestors running and shouting after him. They reportedly followed him for an entire block.
World Bank freezes Afghanistan aid after Taliban takeover

“We are deeply concerned about the situation in Afghanistan and the impact on the country’s development prospects, especially for women,” a World Bank spokesperson told FOX Business.
The World Bank has committed more than $5.3 billion for development projects in the country since 2002. It also had another 15 projects with the Afghanistan Reconstruction Fund, a donor-funded trust administered by the bank.
The fund has raised almost $12.9 billion from 34 donors, the World Bank said in April.
Cutting the Taliban off from the allocation follows a decision by the Treasury Department to freeze Afghan government reserves held in U.S. banks, essentially blocking the group from accessing billions of dollars in aid.
Nigel Farage on Afghanistan: Biden ‘effectively’ flying white flag to the Taliban
Nigel Farage, former Brexit party leader, slammed the Biden administration’s Afghanistan blunder Tuesday, arguing the crisis has led his country of Britain feeling “betrayed.”
Under Biden, Farage told “Fox & Friends First” that “there is no way a British parliament right now would vote for military cooperation with America.”

American troops are still leaving Afghanistan, while Beijing’s Belt and Road Initiative suffers inside Afghanistan’s neighbor.
China’s population may be shrinking faster than any other nation’s. Chinese women gave birth to just 1.3 children on average last year. And even the nation’s new policy changes may not be able to reverse the trend.

The Bizarre Refusal to Apply Cost-Benefit Analysis to COVID Debates
In virtually every aspect of public life, we make policy choices by comparing the cost and benefits of various policies.
We often refuse to impose limits even though we know they would save lives: we could ban cars or make the speed limit 25 mph and save hundreds of thousands of lives.
We don’t because we assess that the benefits of cars outweigh the costs of those deaths.
Why do we still refuse to use this analysis for COVID?
