Pandemic Has Depression, Anxiety Rates Among Youth Climbing Worldwide
If you think the pandemic hasn’t taken a toll on the mental health of young people, ponder these two facts from a new review: one in four are suffering from depression, while one in five are struggling with anxiety.
“Being socially isolated, kept away from their friends, their school routines and extracurricular activities during the pandemic has proven to be difficult on youth,” said lead researcher Sheri Madigan. She is an assistant professor in the department of psychology at the University of Calgary, in Canada.
“An important consideration for keeping schools open should be the mental health and well-being of youth,” Madigan said.
NSA Grants $10B Cloud Computing Contract to Amazon
Amazon Web Services recently won a secret government cloud computing contract worth about $10 billion from the National Security Agency, an agreement that’s being challenged by Microsoft, Nextgov reports.
The contract, which is codenamed “WildandStormy,” was not publicly announced, but Microsoft was informed of the deal in July, prompting the company to lodge a bid to protest with the Government Accountability Office.
These filings revealed the code name and show that the deal is the second major cloud computing agreement that the U.S. intelligence community has made in the last year, after the CIA split its C2E contract between five companies, including AWS and Microsoft, as well as Google, Oracle, and IBM.
Workers Quit at Historic Rates as Demand For Labor Strong
Many companies are boosting salaries in order to recruit workers as businesses scramble to fill job openings in an attempt to catch up with booming demand, Axios reported on Tuesday.
This scenario has resulted in workers taking advantage of the strong demand for labor by quitting their old jobs in search of better opportunities.
According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics’ Job Openings and Labor Turnover Survey, 3.87 million workers quit their jobs in June, which is close to the record set this past April of 3.99 million.
Lyft driver who assaulted country singer Clare Dunn arrested, charged with misdemeanor assault
The Colorado-based star had been recording in Nashville when she and a friend shared a Lyft home from a girls’ night out, with the pal dropped off first, Dunn said.
The driver then pulled over less than a mile from her house, she said.
“Before I could even get my shoes off or get my phone to try and call 911, he grabbed me by the collar, ripped me out of the backseat and slammed me face-first down into a ditch,” she told People.

The shooting happened near 8th and Franklin streets at about 2 p.m. Saturday.

Man beats off-duty Chicago police officer, bites off friend’s nipple in road rage incident: report
Kyle Clark, 35, was driving a black Volkswagen Jetta on Lake Shore Drive when he sideswiped another vehicle carrying the off-duty officer and his friend around 11:40 p.m., CWB Chicago reported, citing prosecutors.
The off-duty officer and his friend, both 38-year-old males, pulled up alongside Clark and ordered him to pull over so they could file a crash report, according to the outlet. The off-duty officer reportedly identified himself to Clark as a Chicago police officer.
After the three men exited their vehicles, Clark allegedly punched the off-duty officer twice in the face. When the friend tried to help, Clark attacked him and completely bit off his nipple, the report said.
Chicago police officer’s suspected killer charged with first-degree murder
Emonte Morgan, 21, is charged with first-degree murder in Saturday’s fatal shooting of 29-year-old officer Ella French, as well as attempted murder and other charges.
His brother, 22-year-old Eric Morgan, faces charges of aggravated unlawful use of a weapon, unlawful use of a weapon by a felon and obstruction of justice.
Officers had stopped a vehicle Saturday with two men and a woman inside just after 9 p.m., when a male passenger opened fire, police said Sunday. Officers reportedly returned fire, striking the passenger who appeared to fire at them.
Earlier Monday, federal prosecutors charged a 29-year-old Indiana man, Jamel Danzy, with purchasing and then illegally supplying the semi-automatic handgun used in the shooting.
Danzy is accused of buying the weapon from a licensed gun dealer in Hammond, Ind. in March and providing it to an Illinois resident who Danzy knew could neither buy nor possess guns because of a felony conviction.

MyPillow CEO Mike Lindell on Tuesday alleged that President Joe Biden committed massive voter fraud even in the state of Texas — but apparently not enough fraud to defeat former President Donald Trump there.
Via Media Matters’ Bobby Lewis, Lindell showed the audience at his “Cyber Symposium” a series of slides showing what he claims are the “true” totals of the 2020 election.
In Texas, Lindell alleges, Trump actually received around 6.4 million votes, compared to 4.8 million for Biden.
This is a big discrepancy between the final tally in Texas, which showed that Trump received 5.9 million votes, compared to 5.3 million for Biden.

Rand Paul Slaps Back After YouTube Suspension
According to Senator Paul’s office, the video was removed by YouTube, with his account suspended from posting any new videos for seven days.
“Censorship by YouTube is very dangerous as it stifles debate and promotes groupthink where the ‘truth’ is defined by people with a political agenda,” Senator Paul stated in a video message which responded to YouTube’s alleged actions.
The video, titled “It Is Time For Unfiltered News,” was also removed by YouTube. “This video has been removed for violating YouTube’s Community Guidelines,” stated the Google-owned Big Tech giant.
During a press call earlier on Tuesday, Senator Paul condemned the apparent link between Big Tech corporations, such as YouTube, and the country’s legislature.
Trump rips McConnell as ‘overrated’ ahead of infrastructure bill’s passage
“Nobody will ever understand why Mitch McConnell allowed this non-infrastructure bill to be passed. He has given up all of his leverage for the big whopper of a bill that will follow,” Trump wrote in a statement.
“I have quietly said for years that Mitch McConnell is the most overrated man in politics—now I don’t have to be quiet anymore.”
“He is working so hard to give Biden a victory, now they’ll go for the big one, including the biggest tax increases in the history of our Country,” Trump added.
Twitter Again Suspends Marjorie Taylor Greene’s Account for ‘Misleading’ Comments
The Georgia Republican tweeted Monday night that the Food and Drug Administration “should not approve the covid vaccines.”
“There are too many reports of infection & spread of #COVID19 among vaccinated people,” Greene tweeted.
“These vaccines are failing & do not reduce the spread of the virus & neither do masks.
“Vaccine mandates & passports violate individual freedoms.”A Twitter spokesperson told CNN that Greene’s tweet “was labeled in line with our COVID-19 misleading information policy. The account will be in read-only mode for a week due to repeated violations of the Twitter Rules.”
Rep. Biggs introduces articles of impeachment against DHS chief Mayorkas over border crisis
“Certainly Joe Biden and Kamala Harris have a substantial amount of blame with this, they’re the ones who campaigned on this, but Mayorkas has not pushed back at all,” Biggs told Fox News in an interview. “So he is the guy who is responsible for the border security and national security and it is a disaster down there.”
“He has failed utterly in his duty,” he said.
The resolution introduces two articles of impeachment against Mayorkas. The first accuses him of having “engaged in a pattern of conduct that is incompatible with his duties as an Officer of the United States.”
The second article accuses Mayorkas of having “engaged in a pattern of conduct that has placed departmental personnel and American citizens at risk of exposure to and contracting COVID-19 by refusing to take necessary steps to prevent potentially contagious illegal aliens from entering the United States.”
Senate approves bipartisan $1T infrastructure plan in win for Biden
The vote was 69-30, with 19 Republicans – including Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell – joining all Democrats to approve major investments to the nation’s roads, bridges, railways and more.
To mark the achievement, Vice President Kamala Harris came to the Capitol to preside over the Senate and announced the successful vote.
“Big news, folks,” Biden tweeted immediately after the victory. “The Bipartisan Infrastructure Deal has officially passed the Senate. I hope Congress will send it to my desk as soon as possible so we can continue our work of building back better.”
But the rare showing of bipartisanship was short-lived Tuesday, as Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer, D-N.Y., quickly pivoted to advancing a massive $3.5 trillion budget bill. Minutes after the infrastructure bill success, Schumer immediately called a procedural vote to begin debate on the Democrats’ budget plan, which passed along party lines: 50-49.
This partisan budget proposal will be the vehicle for Democrats to pass liberal priorities such as universal pre-kindergarten, expanded Medicare access, two free years of community college, subsidized child care, legalizing undocumented immigrants and green climate initiatives.

Chinese, Russian Militaries Hold Drills in Northwest China
The military exercises involving ground troops and combat aircraft are to continue through Friday in the Ningxia Hui Autonomous Region.
The region is located in northwestern China east of Xinjiang, where China has detained more than 1 million Uyghurs and members of other Muslim minorities in what it calls a campaign against terrorism and extremism.
Critics say the detentions violate the human rights of a minority group.
