Government Audit Finds 24 Miami Buildings Are Unsafe After Deadly Collapse
Twenty-four Miami-Dade apartment complexes, including two owned by the county, were listed as unsafe over structural violations following an emergency audit of the area that was authorized after a condominium building partially collapsed last week.
The buildings appeared on a list released late on Monday by the Miami-Dade government, reported the Miami Herald.
Local government officials claimed that building code issues have cropped up due to a lack of federal funding.
Michael Liu, the housing director for the county, told the newspaper that the area is about $10 million short, forcing his agency “to make difficult choices based on severity and threats to health and safety.”
Truck driver smuggling migrants through Mexico pulls over after hearing the screams of his cargo:
A truck driver who was smuggling more than 100 people across Mexico pulled over when the banging and screams of his cargo became too much to ignore.
Police who came across the scene found a man, 25, who had suffocated to death and an abandoned two-year-old boy.
It’s the latest horrific discovery as hundreds of thousands of migrants from Central America cross through Mexico to attempt to illegally enter the United States – with some falling ill or dying in the desert or becoming prey to human smugglers.
The scene unfolded Monday morning in the southern Mexico state of Veracruz after the driver stopped the truck on a two-lane road and allowed more than 100 migrants, most from Central America, to get out of the freight container.

Outages have already been reported at pumps in at least seven states over the past week as demand rises and bottlenecks appear in gas supply chains.
The culprit, according to energy experts, is a lack of qualified gas tanker drivers, after many retired or switched to other trucking jobs amid the pandemic that saw a drop off in the demand for gasoline.
Those that do manage to find gas are likely to find some of the highest prices in almost seven years, with gas now averaging $3.10 a gallon across the US – the highest since October 2014.

The article, according to the Campus Reform’s Jackson Walker and Adam Sabes, has since been removed from the office’s “Education & Resources for Allies” webpage, and the university’s director of communications and marketing states that the school regrets the posting of the document.
“The claim that individual cops can be good is rooted in white supremacist mythology that suggests racism is an individual act committed by anybody,” the article noted.
“Policing is not a question of individualism. It is not as if a random individual gets a gun, a badge, a police car, and a blue uniform. The police are a highly organized institution with systemic power.
In order to understand any institution, it is important you start with the history of that institution, the institution of modern day policing evolved from the slave patrol system.”
Traffic accidents, fatalities now examples of structural racism: ‘Because of race-based decisions’
A recently published NBC News report suggested black people are disproportionately the victims of motor vehicle accidents, therein revealing inherent discrimination in traffic accidents.
Data compiled by the U.S. Department of Transportation’s National Highway Traffic Safety Administration showed 38,680 people died in motor vehicle accidents last year. The share of black people who died in those crashes increased by 23% from 2019.
The disproportionate impact, according to Smart Growth America President Calvin Gladney, is the result of systemic injustice exacerbated by the COVID-19 pandemic.
“You see this disproportionately in Black and brown communities often because of race-based decisions of the past,” Gladney told NBC News.
University offers $1,200 stipends to learn how ‘whiteness is normalized’ and how it can be ‘eradicated’
California State University East Bay faculty members can earn $1,200 if they take professional development courses on anti-racism this summer and continue to work on their projects through the school year.
The stipends go to professors and instructors who attend the “Anti-Racist Liberatory Pedagogy Academy” this July.
The brochure from Professor G.T. Reyes said that CRT IS “a race-conscious framework that examines the ways that whiteness is normalized in our country and in our University.”
Florida man gets life sentence for molesting girlfriend’s daughter, 10, dousing her with bleach
Jurors in Tampa found Lewis Matthews guilty of four felonies following a three-day trial earlier in June, the Tampa Bay Times reported.
No one spoke on behalf of Matthews, who was the boyfriend of the girl’s mother, during Monday’s sentencing hearing, the newspaper said.
Prosecutors said the girl told investigators — and later the court — about falling asleep on the living room floor on April 13, 2019. She said about 3:30 a.m., Matthews woke her up and molested her.
He was interrupted when her mother heard a noise and came downstairs. She was “stunned by what she discovered,” prosecutors said, and quickly dialed 911, the newspaper reported.
Energy Sec. Granholm on Miami condo collapse: ‘We don’t know’ if climate change was cause
Granholm was asked if climate change could have played a role in the building’s collapse during a CNN interview on Tuesday.”
Obviously, we don’t know fully, but we do know that the seas are rising. We know that we’re losing inches and inches of beaches, not just in Florida but all around,” Granholm said.
“Michigan, where I’m from, we’ve seen the loss of beaches because the waters are rising, so this is a phenomenon that will continue.”
Granholm used the deadly building collapse, which left at least 11 people dead and 150 unaccounted for, to push for President Biden’s infrastructure package.
“We’ll have to wait to see what the analysis is for this building, but the issue about resiliency and making sure we adapt to this changing climate, that’s going to mean levees need to be built, sea walls need to be built, infrastructure needs to be built,” she said.
YouTube censors/deletes human rights videos on China’s genocide in Xinjiang
YouTube removed several videos last week created by a human rights group featuring testimonies from people who say their families in China’s Xinjiang region have disappeared, according to a Reuters exclusive report.
The platform claimed the videos violated their guidelines against “cyberbullying and harassment.”
Atajurt Kazakh Human Rights’ channel, co-founded by Xinjiang-born activist Serikzhan Bilash, has nearly 11,000 videos on YouTube attracting over 120 million views over the last four years.
Thousands of the videos include individuals speaking on camera about relatives who have disappeared in the region.
After YouTube restricted their content, the human rights organization moved its videos to Odysee, a platform built on a blockchain. Despite the pushback from YouTube, Bilash said the group won’t ever remove their content from the platform.

Supreme Court denies bond hearings for illegal immigrants who return after being deported
A 6-3 decision split between the court’s conservative and liberal justices held that a federal statute requiring detention for non-residents who have already received an administratively final removal order applied, even though the illegal immigrants were seeking withholding hearings to keep them from being sent back to their countries of origin.
The court ruled that because they were now facing removal based on the reinstatement of the previous final order, they were not entitled to a hearing to argue for release.
The court’s opinion also explained that the process for seeking a withholding hearing is different in cases of unlawful reentry. In those cases, the individuals have to express fear of return to their countries to a DHS official, who will then refer them to an asylum officer.
Supreme Court Sides With Pipeline Company On Land For Gas Pipeline
Chief Justice John Roberts wrote for the majority that when FERC issues a a certificate of public convenience and necessity, federal law authorizes the certificate’s holder “to condemn all necessary rights-of-way, whether owned by private parties or States.”
Roberts was joined by conservative justices Samuel Alito and Brett Kavanaugh and liberal justices Stephen Breyer and Sonia Sotomayor.
The decision from the high court doesn’t end litigation over the pipeline. A separate challenge to the pipeline involving New Jersey is pending in a federal appeals court in Washington.
Man Crowned Miss Nevada USA Because Men Are Apparently Better Women Than Real Women
Apparently, in order to be sufficiently woke, one must believe that men are better at being women than real women.
That’s certainly the message being sent by the Miss Nevada USA pageant after 27-year-old Kataluna Enriquez was crowned Miss Nevada USA, and thus will compete for the Miss USA title later this year. Enriquez is a man who identifies as a woman. He competed against 21 women to win the title.
Another pageant, the Miss United States of America (USOA) pageant, won a lawsuit earlier this year, allowing them to continue admitting only biological females into their competition.
Enriquez would become the second biological man to compete in the global Miss Universe competition if he wins the Miss USA pageant.

Hundreds Rally for Motorcycle Ride Honoring Fallen Toledo Officers
The group also honored Toledo Police Department (TPD) Officer Anthony Dia during a motorcycle ride, according to NBC 24.
“Dia and Stalker graduated in the same police class and were killed in the line of duty just six months apart,” the outlet said.
Hundreds of bikers met outside the American Legion Post 587, then rode to Toledo Memorial Park where Stalker’s grave is located.
Following their visit, the group rode to the Home Depot on West Alexis Road where Dia was killed before returning to the post to enjoy raffles and food trucks.
Stalker was killed in the line of duty during a standoff in central Toledo in January.
Dee Lynn, the event organizer for the Officer Anthony Dia Foundation, said it gave her a positive feeling to see so many show up for the rally.

An East Los Angeles community is in mourning after three young children were found dead inside a home Monday afternoon.
The children’s 28-year-old mother was taken into custody as the person of interest and is speaking with deputies.
LASD says there were no known prior calls to this home. Officials have not ruled out the young children’s death as accidental as of late Monday night.

But the Supreme Court will now hear a case brought by two other New Yorkers who couldn’t get a permit.
Alan Gottlieb, of the 2nd Amendment Foundation, is optimistic that the court will rule in favor of gun rights.

Sanctuary State California: Illegal Alien Accused of Spitting on Asian Family, Holding Them at Gunpoint
Carlos Claros, a 22-year-old illegal alien, was arrested in April after being caught on video footage allegedly trying to rob an Asian American family of 18 that was visiting San Francisco, California’s Fisherman’s Wharf from Wisconsin as part of a road trip across the state. The family included children as young as six.
According to those present at the scene, Claros and two other men walked up on the family wielding a gun in an attempt to rob them. At the time of the incident, Claros was out of jail on probation.
In an exclusive report, Washington Times reporter Stephen Dinan revealed that California’s expansive sanctuary state law — shielding illegal aliens from arrest and deportation — helped keep Claros in the United States despite four requests by the Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agency to turn him over to their custody.
LA County ‘strongly recommends’ masks indoors over Delta variant, regardless of vaccination status

California police chief warns $18 million budget cut leaves the city less safe
The top cop in Oakland, Calif., warned Monday of fewer police officers and slower response times ahead of a new city budget that will divert $18 million from the police department amid a surge in gun violence and following a bloody weekend that saw four people killed.
In a news conference, a sometimes emotional police Chief LeRonne Armstrong asked city leaders to put “politics aside” and lives “before political agendas” as he addressed reporters. He warned of fewer police officers and slower responses to emergency calls, particularly in marginalized neighborhoods, at a time when authorities are already having a tough time responding to calls for service.
“Far too often in these meetings we are talking about numbers. We are talking about money and costs,” he said. “I don’t know what the cost of a life is. But I know not having resources makes our city less safe.”
South Dakota Gov. Kristi Noem sends 50 National Guard troops to Texas to help tackle border crisis
Noem announced that 50 South Dakota National Guard troops would be sent to Texas to secure the border between the U.S. and Mexico. Her office said the deployment will last for between 30 and 60 days, and that it will be paid for via a private donation.
“The Biden administration has failed in the most basic duty of the federal government: keeping the American people safe,” Noem said in a statement announcing the deployment.
“The border is a national security crisis that requires the kind of sustained response only the National Guard can provide.”
“We should not be making our communities less safe by sending our police or Highway Patrol to fix a long-term problem President Biden’s administration seems unable or unwilling to solve,” Noem said. “My message to Texas is this: help is on the way.”
Abbott’s border barrier construction begins, Texas National Guard assisting
On Monday, the governor tweeted: “Building the border barrier has begun. The 1st step is to get easements on land. The 2nd step is to clear the land for the building process. That is what is happening here.”
“Some of the Texas National Guard engineers already assigned to this mission will work to build temporary fencing, in conjunction with several other state agencies,” a statement from the Texas Military Department read.
The barriers are a ‘stop-gap’ measure, Abbott said. The governor’s plans also include the construction of a border wall that will initially use $250 million from the Texas Department of Criminal Justice.

Biden administration loses public support on immigration policies
A new Harvard/Harris poll found the overwhelming majority of voters say immigration is a serious issue that has gotten worse under the Biden administration and that more should be done to address it.
According to the survey, 80% of voters see immigration as a “very serious” or “somewhat serious” issue, and 64% said the Biden administration should “issue new, stricter policies to reduce the flow of people across the border.” Only 36% said Biden should continue his current policies.
In the poll, 68% of voters said the Biden administration’s executive actions are increasing the amount of illegal immigration, and 55% said he should have left in place former President Donald Trump’s immigration policies.
“The president’s border policies are plainly unpopular with a large swath of the electorate, but the administration just seems to be doubling down on them,” Andrew Arthur, a legal expert at the Center for Immigration Studies, wrote.
Major county will replace all 2020 voting machines since security ‘has been compromised’
The Maricopa County Board of Supervisors in Arizona announced on Monday that it will replace all of its voting machines used in the 2020 presidential election following its audit.
“Today, Maricopa County responded to Arizona Secretary of State Katie Hobbs’ May 20, 2021 letter, in which she informed the County it should never again use the subpoenaed tabulation equipment that was compromised by the Arizona Senate,” the county said in a statement.
The county expects to have new equipment in place in time for the November 2021 election.

GOP cries foul as California OKs new governor recall rules
The proposal, now headed to Newsom’s desk, would allow the recall to proceed at least 30 days earlier than under existing state law. Democrats hope to take advantage of what they view as favorable conditions for Newsom as the state moves on from the worst days of the pandemic and related restrictions.
This marks the second time Democrats are changing the rules in hopes of helping their own. Four years ago, they added new steps to the recall process as a state senator faced a removal vote.
At the time, they hoped to slow things down so the vote would align with the next primary.
The bill makes other changes sought by county clerks specific to mail ballots and vote centers. All counties will be required to mail voters a ballot.

Russia secretly launched a new ICBM around time of Biden-Putin summit, state media reports
On Monday, Russia’s state-run TASS news agency first reported Russia secretly carried out a new intercontinental ballistic missile (ICBM) test launch in mid-June, a timeline that coincides with President Joe Biden and Russian President Vladimir Putin’s first face-to-face meeting on June 16 in Geneva, Switzerland.
“In mid-June, the latest unique ballistic missile developed by the Moscow Institute of Thermal Technology was successfully test-launched from the Plesetsk spaceport,” an unnamed Russian defense source told TASS.
Russia reportedly plans to have the new Kedr missile systems replace the current arsenal of Yars missiles by the early 2030s, according to The National Interest.
Kedr is part of an overall effort by Russia to modernize its nuclear force. While the Kedr is set to replace the Yars ICBM, the Topol-M is set to replace it’s 80’s-era predecessor, the original Topol ICBM.
India shifts 50,000 troops to China border in historic move
India has redirected at least 50,000 additional troops to its border with China in a historic shift toward an offensive military posture against the world’s second-biggest economy.
Although the two countries battled in the Himalayas in 1962, India’s strategic focus has primarily been Pakistan since the British left the subcontinent, with the long-time rivals fighting three wars over the disputed region of Kashmir.
Yet since the deadliest India-China fighting in decades last year, Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s administration has sought to ease tensions with Islamabad and concentrate primarily on countering Beijing.
Over the past few months, India has moved troops and fighter jet squadrons to three distinct areas along its border with China, according to four people familiar with the matter.
All in all, India now has roughly 200,000 troops focused on the border, two of them said, which is an increase of more than 40% from last year.
‘This means war’: China warns US over military ties with Taipei
China on Wednesday warned the United States over increasing military contacts with Taiwan saying that seeking independence of Taiwan means ‘war’.
China defense ministry spokesperson Ren Guoqiang said that China believes in its complete reunification and expressed Beijing’s opposition towards Washington-Taipei military ties.
Guoqiang said that China remains firmly opposed to any official exchanges or military contacts between the US and Taiwan and asked Washington to ‘sever all military ties with Taiwan’.
“The complete reunification of China is a historical necessity and the great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation is an unstoppable trend. The common aspirations of the people are peace and stability across the Taiwan Strait. ‘Taiwan independence’ is a dead-end road and seeking it means war,” the statement quoting Guoqiang said.

Israel’s Semi-Autonomous Robot With Machine Guns is Heading to the Gaza Border
Israel has deployed a new robot that can operate “24 hours a day, 7 days a week.” According to the press release, the robot is a semi-autonomous machine equipped with 7.62-millimeter machine guns.
It is ultimately intended to stand as a substitute for combat soldiers, and although there are many military robots that came before it, it’s one of the first robots in the world that is actually able to work autonomously like a soldier.
The new military robot is called the Jaguar, and it utilizes a number of technologies to perform its operations, such as high-resolution cameras, transmitters, powerful headlights, and a remote-controlled PA system.
Using this tech, it can navigate its way to a designated area and even spot obstacles on the way using an advanced driving system.
American Ballistic Missile Submarine Makes Rare Stop In Gibraltar
The Ohio class ballistic missile submarine USS Alaska has made a very unusual stop in the British Overseas Territory of Gibraltar.
The Navy took the equally unusual step of publicly announcing the submarine’s arrival there today.
This is the latest in a string of curiously public movements of members of the Navy’s ‘boomer’ fleet, which typically conduct their deterrent patrols loaded with nuclear-armed Trident ballistic missiles with few, if any, port visits and even less fanfare.
