Secret Recordings Reveal Officials Discussing ‘Filthy’ Conditions of 4,632 Immigrant Kids Held in Texas Tent Camp
The Associated Press first reported earlier this month that, after moving them out of Customs and Border Protection detention centers, the Biden administration is holding “tens of thousands of asylum-seeking children in an opaque network of some 200 facilities.”
Recordings obtained by Reason reveal the stress the influx of unaccompanied minors has put on the federal government. They also reveal that leaders at the shelter are well aware that they are failing to provide basic necessities, including medical care and physical safety, to the children under its supervision.
On Monday, Health and Human Services Secretary Xavier Becerra said the Fort Bliss facility was not fit for “tender age” children, but thousands of teens continue to be housed there.
The New York Times reported last week that the Biden administration is planning to expand the shelter to hold up to 10,000 minors. Because the shelter is inside a military base, it is not open to the public or press. Neither are any of the other emergency intake shelters.
The photos in this story were snapped by a federal employee and passed to Reason despite an absolute prohibition on taking or sharing images imposed by camp officials.
National Guard to depart Capitol nearly 5 months after Jan. 6 riot
Their exit comes as Capitol Police and other Hill security officials have raced to address shortcomings exposed by the riot — including through the installation of new leadership.
The departure of roughly 2,000 troops will return control of the complex back to the Capitol Police, which is now seeking a major expansion of its own capacity after its top brass faced criticism during the riot.
“These airmen and soldiers protected not only the grounds, but the lawmakers working on those grounds, ensuring the people’s business could continue unabated,” Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin said in a statement Monday.
Several dead, dozens injured after violent weekend of shootings across nation
Large gatherings over the weekend across the country resulted in violent shootings at a bar in Ohio, a party in New Jersey and concert in South Carolina, leaving six dead and dozens injured.
Meanwhile in Chicago, shootings have become a frequent dilemma faced by officials, which resulted in 11 killed and 55 wounded from weekend shootings according to WGN9. From Friday night to early Monday morning gunshot wounds killed victims as young as 15.
Shootings in cities nationwide are up significant amounts compared to previous years.
Police Capture Man Wanted in 4 Killings After 7 Days on Run
Tyler Terry was arrested around 10:30 a.m., and neither he nor the more than 300 officers searching for him were hurt during his arrest, the Chester County Sheriff’s Office posted on Twitter.
The manhunt finally ended after at least four confirmed sightings of Terry since he ran from a wrecked car after firing on Chester County deputies on May 17.
Terry, 26, is charged with murder in a shooting in York in early May, the killing in Great Falls of the estranged husband of the woman who drove the car as he fired at officers, and the deaths of two other people in Missouri on May 15 during robberies in the St. Louis suburbs, authorities said.
Connecticut prosecuting 16-year-old under 100-year-old law banning ‘ridicule’
The recent arrest of a 16-year-old in Fairfield is drawing fresh scrutiny to the statute, with constitutional scholars calling it flatly unconstitutional and chronically applied to unrelated conduct.
The Greater Bridgeport chapter of the NAACP, however, doesn’t think it goes far enough.
President Stanley Lord told Just the News his group is pushing for a law that would impose stiffer criminal penalties than the 30 days in jail allowed under the ridicule law.

Drone video shows dozens of illegal aliens rushing outnumbered Border Patrol agents in mad dash into Texas
The group was reportedly made up only of adults, including two men who were already handcuffed together, the outlet said.
The video taken by a Fox News drone at La Joya showed 30 to 40 adult migrants, mostly men, scattering across the border, being chased by a lone Border Patrol agent in a pick-up. The agent attempted to chase the group down, but he was significantly outnumbered.
Another clip showed a single agent attempting to chase the large group on foot as they scaled fences and wall and leapt over narrow streams.

Cotton demands NIH ‘come clean’ about funding for Wuhan virus lab and origins of COVID-19
In an interview on “Sunday Morning Futures” on Fox News, Cotton discussed a letter he signed with seven other Republican lawmakers including Sens. Ron Johnson (R-Wisc.) and Rand Paul (R-Ky.) pressing that the National Institutes of Health (NIH) for answers on allegations that the U.S. funded gain of function research at the Wuhan Institute of Virology to make pathogens like SARS-CoV-2 deadlier or more easily transmissible.
On Sunday, Cotton told Fox News host Maria Bartiromo that Dr. Fauci was “playing word games” with the NIH funding.
“And we asked [NIH Director] Francis Collins, who’s Dr. Fauci’s boss, to come clean, to tell us exactly what was happening, why this research was being funded, as you point out, Maria, during a time in which the Obama administration had explicitly banned this kind of gain of function research, research into making some of the world’s deadliest pathogens even more dangerous,” he added, suggesting that some “public health bureaucrats” may have violated the Obama administration’s 2014 moratorium on gain of function research.
Toomey requests info from Fed bank leaders about ‘woke’ initiatives
The Pennsylvania Republican sent letters to Fed regional bank Presidents Neel Kashkari of Minneapolis, Eric Rosengren of Boston, and Raphael Bostic of Atlanta about their recent work regarding economic racial equality.
“Whether or not this is your personal view, I would remind you that only Congress has the authority to reform the Federal Reserve or modify its statutory mission,” the senator wrote.
“Moreover, I would caution you on the reputational damage being inflicted on the [Minneapolis/Atlanta/Boston] Fed and the Federal Reserve as a whole by pursuing a highly politicized social agenda unrelated to monetary policy.”
During a Monday phone call with reporters, Republican staff on the Senate banking committee said the matter hits at the very heart of how the Fed is supposed to operate. They warned that sinking further into the political mire of social issues could damage the core of the central bank’s mission.

The senators argued that the states with “sanctuary policies” put their residents “at risk to the dangerous, violent criminal aliens who are released because these jurisdictions either fail to notify federal officials, or refuse to cooperate with reasonable requests to detain them.”
“This information should be made readily available to Congress and to the American people in order to evaluate this unfortunate policy change.”
“While the public has not been provided access to your memo effectively endorsing sanctuary policies, this memo appears to have been shared widely with mainstream, liberal media outlets,” the senators wrote in the letter.

Report: Joe Biden to Ditch Student Loan Forgiveness from Budget, Breaking Campaign Promise
The report of Biden reneging on his campaign promise to cancel $10,000 in school loans may infuriate the likes of Sens. Elizabeth Warren (D-MA) and Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer, along with Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (R-NY), who have pushed Biden to forgive up to $50,000 in debt.

Tensions in Europe give this exercise added urgency, reflecting a return to a “deterrence mindset,” Lewis said.

Big Brother: Millions Secretly Tracked to Monitor Movements After COVID Vaccine
A report from the SPI-B committee of government scientists has revealed that the government tracked up to ten per cent of the British public’s phones in February, all without permission or notification to the public.
The report, which was seen by the Sunday Telegraph, said that researchers at Oxford University for the SPI-B — a subgroup of the British government’s SAGE quango — monitored the behavioural changes of vaccinated Britons through “CDR [call data records] with corresponding location observations”.
Through tracking “cell phone mobility data for 10 per cent of the British population”, the Oxford University team was able to determine that 4,254 people had received a coronavirus vaccine at the time.
Prominent UK Black Lives Matter activist shot in head had received ‘numerous death threats’: party
The Taking the Initiative Party said Sasha Johnson, who played a leading role in Black Lives Matter protests last year, was shot in the head on Sunday. She underwent surgery on Monday, the party said in a social media post.
Police and a friend said it did not appear to be a targeted attack, though the party said Johnson had received “numerous death threats” related to her activism before the shooting.
Johnson was a speaker at rallies last summer and is a leader of the newly founded, Black-led Taking the Initiative Party.
US condemns Belarus regime over ‘shocking act’ to divert commercial flight
Pratasevich faces charges that reportedly could result in the death penalty. He was aboard a Ryanair flight from Athens to the Lithuanian capital of Vilnius when it changed course to head for Minsk.
Flight tracker sites indicated the plane was about six miles from the Lithuanian border when it was diverted.
A witness told Radio Free Europe’s Belarus department that Pratasevich started to panic when the Ryanair flight turned course. When the plane arrived in Minsk, Pratasevich’s luggage was “thrown out on the runway” and he was separated from the rest of the passengers, according to the German news outlet Deutsche Welle.
“We asked him what was going on.” one passenger said, according to the outlet. “He told us who he was and added: ‘A death penalty awaits me here.’ He was a bit calmer, but trembling.”
