Judge rules woman must choose her Confederate flag or her biracial child
Albany, N.Y., district court justices ruled last week a Confederate flag painted on a rock in a woman’s driveway could play a role in an ongoing battle for custody of her multiracial child.
An appellate division of the state’s second highest court ruled in a 5-0 decision that a couple would retain joint custody of their child born in 2014, The Albany Times Union first reported. But Justice Stanley Pritzker wrote in the court’s ruling the woman has until June 1 to remove the rock from her driveway. Otherwise, it could factor “into any future best interests analysis.”
“Given that the child is of mixed race, it would seem apparent that the presence of the flag is not in the child’s best interests, as the mother must encourage and teach the child to embrace her mixed race identity, rather than thrust her into a world that only makes sense through the tortured lens of cognitive dissonance,” Pritzker wrote.
As “Critical Race Theory” Becomes Toxic Term, New Codenames and Keywords Emerge
The term “Critical Race Theory” is becoming toxic. Widespread publicity of race-shaming and neo-racist activism on campuses, public and private K-12, government, and corporations, has sparked both state-level legislation to keep such instruction out of public schools and grassroots pushback from parents around the country.
The terminology used always has had some variation, as we explained on our CriticalRace.Org website (emphasis added):

Additionally, it allows users to look up the steps their school has taken to mandate Critical Race Training in different parts of the college experience, from changing academic codes of conduct to funding “equity” projects.
Migrant children held in mass shelters with little oversight
The Biden administration is holding tens of thousands of asylum-seeking children in an opaque network of some 200 facilities that The Associated Press has learned spans two dozen states and includes five shelters with more than 1,000 children packed inside.
Confidential data obtained by the AP shows the number of migrant children in government custody more than doubled in the past two months, and this week the federal government was housing around 21,000 kids, from toddlers to teens.
A facility at Fort Bliss, a U.S. Army post in El Paso, Texas, had more than 4,500 children as of Monday. Attorneys, advocates and mental health experts say that while some shelters are safe and provide adequate care, others are endangering children’s health and safety.
Key HHS Agency Officer: Annual COVID Booster Shots May Be Needed
“We’re in the process right now, working with our interagency colleagues as well as the Food and Drug Administration, to determine if we’re going to need potentially annual boosters for any of the potential circulating strains,” Disbrow told The Hill.
“Right now we do feel that we will potentially need a boost in the fall for those people, especially those above the age of 65, where you do see a more dramatic waning of immunity than you do in younger people.”
BARDA, which heads federal vaccine research and development and therapeutics for pathogens, has played a major role in the development of COVID-19 vaccines, and Disbrow said the agency will continue to be the main force in preparing for future pandemics.
Suit: Workers lured from India paid $1.20 per hour for years
The lawsuit filed in federal court accuses the leaders of the Hindu organization known as Bochasanwasi Akshar Purushottam Swaminarayan Sanstha, or BAPS, of human trafficking and wage law violations.
The lawsuit says more than 200 workers — many or all of whom don’t speak or understand English — were coerced into signing employment agreements in India to work at the Hindu temple in Robbinsville, outside Trenton. They traveled under R-1 visas, which are meant for “those who minister, or work in religious vocations or occupations,” according to the lawsuit.
When they arrived, the lawsuit says, their passports were taken away and they were forced to work at the temple from 6:30 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. with few days off, for about $450 per month. That wage works out to roughly $1.20 per hour.
Surveys show largest expansion of school choice in U.S. history
“This is a banner year for the educational choice movement. Hundreds of thousands of children nationwide will now have greater access to educational opportunities,” Jason Bedrick, director of policy at Ed Choice, a national nonprofit organization that promotes state-based educational choice programs, told The Center Square.
At least 50 school choice bills have been introduced in 30 states so far, designed to create or expand vouchers, tax-credit scholarships and education savings accounts, among other measures.
To date, 10 states have proposed five new programs and 10 states have expanded existing programs, Bedrick told The Center Square.
They include the legislatures of Indiana and Nevada creating Educational Savings Accounts for the first time in their states, as well as Kentucky and Missouri creating tax-credit-funded Education Savings Accounts for the first time in their states.
Cyberattack on US pipeline brings lines to East Coast gas stations, signs of panic buying
Motorists along the southern East Coast on Tuesday began forming lines at gas station, following the recent cyber attack on the major U.S. pipeline that apparently sparked fear of a petroleum shortage in the region.
Lines former in states including Georgia, North Carolina and South Carolina following the ransomware attack Friday by Russia-based criminal group DarkSide.
Several gas stations in North Carolina’s Triangle region were out of fuel by sunrise, according to WRAL-TV, as gas-hunters along the coast flocked to Twitter with reports and pictures of long line.

Bombshell Report Reveals CDC Risk of Covid Transmission Outdoors Greatly Exaggerated
A bombshell report from the New York Times revealed the CDC greatly exaggerated the risk of Covid transmission while outdoors.
According to the NY Times, the 10% transmission rate was based “partly on a misclassification” of some transmission in Singapore in a setting with a mix of indoors and outdoors.
The real outdoor transmission rate is 1% or less!
“There are limited data on outdoor transmission,” a CDC official told the Times.
Planned Parenthood Injures Teen in Botched Abortion, 911 File Censored to Cover It Up
The audio file was redacted to remove any mention of an abortion, even though the incident took place on a surgical abortion day when services other than abortion are either greatly curtailed or unavailable.

The ambulance was dispatched under a Priority 1 – Critical designation, which would require lights and sirens.

‘Monster’: 7 Life Sentences for Ex-Hospital Worker in Deaths
Reta Mays has a history of mental health issues, and offered no explanation Tuesday for why she killed the men.
But U.S. District Judge Thomas Kleeh told her “you knew what you were doing” before sentencing her to seven consecutive life terms, a punishment that means she’ll likely die in prison.
Mays, 46, pleaded guilty last year in federal court to seven counts of second-degree murder for intentionally injecting the men with unprescribed insulin at the Louis A. Johnson VA Medical Center in Clarksburg.
2 Texas deputies killed in shootout with suspect while responding to ‘dog complaint’
Concho County deputies arrived at a home on the 100 block of Bryan Street in Eden, Texas, to respond to a complaint about a dog around 8:20 p.m. Monday, KSAN/KLST reported, citing an update provided by the Texas Rangers on Tuesday.
The alleged gunman — 28-year-old Jeffrey Nicholas — led deputies on a short foot pursuit and barricaded himself in a building. A standoff resulted in gunfire being exchanged, KLST/KSAN reported.
During the investigation into the complaint, Nicholas was contacted and an altercation broke out, the outlet reported.

Newsom offers cash to voters from budget windfall, federal COVID relief money, ahead of recall vote
California Democratic Gov. Gavin Newsom is offering COVID-19 relief money to resident-voters amid a likely recall election vote – using a stunning $75.7 billion state surplus that was fueled by capital gains taxes collected during the pandemic and $26 billion in direct state aid from the federal stimulus plan that congressional Democrats passed in March.
Newsom announced the plan Monday in a statewide road show. Money in his $100 billion California Comeback Plan will help residents pay utility bills and back rent, according to Politico.
The checks would arrive in voters’ mailboxes before the recall voter is expected to be put to residents on a November ballot.
Under a constitutional spending cap, the state must refund taxes and direct more money to schools once revenues top a certain level, Politico also reports.

Rand Paul, Fauci again spar over COVID origins, controversial Wuhan lab
Fauci and Paul have come to verbal blows before over both COVID-19 and related restrictions such as lockdowns and mask-wearing. On Tuesday, Paul zeroed in on gain of function research — which works on making pathogens deadlier or more easily transmissible.
He alleged that a U.S. virologist had been working with the Chinese institute on such research and said it was funded by the National Institute of Health (NIH).

Clash Reported Near Iran’s Border With Turkey
Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corps (IRGC) forces on May 11 killed seven militants and dismantled their cell in the country’s northwest near the border with Turkey, Iran’s state-run IRNA news agency reported.
Two members of the IRGC were also reportedly killed in the shoot-out.
IRNA reported that the “group of terrorists” had entered Iran illegally from Turkey.
The clash took place around noon in the city of Salmas in Iran’s West Azerbaijan Province, according to the report. The city is located about 650 kilometers northwest of the capital Tehran.

Brazilian States Suspend AstraZeneca’s COVID-19 Vaccine for Pregnant Women After Death
ANVISA, the countries’ National Health Surveillance Agency, recommended the “immediate suspension” of the vaccine for pregnant women in a statement issued late on Monday, without providing many details.
The health regulator cited that the recommendation was the result of “constant monitoring of adverse events related to COVID vaccines in use in the country.”
Brazil’s Sao Paulo has temporarily paused the use of the vaccine for pregnant women with previous medical conditions and Rio de Janeiro suspended it for all pregnant women, Reuters reported.
7 Students, 2 School Employees Dead in Russian School Shooting
A gunman launched an attack on a school in the Russian city of Kazan that left at least nine people dead Tuesday — including seven youngsters — and sent students hiding under their desks or running out of the building.
At least 21 others were hospitalized, six in extremely grave condition, authorities said.
The attacker, identified only as a 19-year-old, was arrested, officials said.
But Russian media said the gunman was a former student at the school who called himself “a god” on his account on the messaging app Telegram and promised to “kill a large amount of biomass” on the morning of the shooting.

Israel is calling on 5,000 reserve soldiers to help bolster its defenses Tuesday as rockets continue to fly into its territory from Gaza, striking buildings and prompting warning sirens to wail in cities and towns throughout the region.
Defense Minister Benny Gantz authorized the move as Egypt is engaged in “intensive” talks with Israel and Gaza militants on reaching a cease-fire to end the latest round of fighting, an official said, with hopes of brokering a deal as soon as Wednesday.
The mobilization of the 5,000 reserve soldiers “is for the continuation of operations … and reinforcements for defending the home front,” Gantz said Tuesday, according to The Times of Israel.
