The first 2022 Hummer EV pickup sells for $2.5 million, proceeds go to 9/11 charity
The buyer — a woman whose name is not public, according to a General Motors spokeswoman —will receive the vehicle with VIN 001 when it rolls off the assembly line at Factory ZERO in Detroit and Hamtramck this fall.
Hummer VIN 001 was sold Saturday evening at the 2021 Barrett-Jackson auction in Scottsdale, Arizona, with the proceeds going to the Tunnel to Towers Foundation, a nonprofit that honors firefighter Stephen Siller, who died on Sept. 11, 2001.
Also auctioned Saturday was the 2021 Ford Bronco 2-Door VIN 001 for $1.075 million. That money will go to the National Forest Foundation and Outward Bound, Barrett-Jackson said in a news release.
At Amazon, Warehouse Workers Who Praise the Company Reap Rewards
As the political battle over working conditions heats up, tech giant Amazon is rewarding warehouse workers who tweet positively about their work.
The accounts are run by Amazon warehouse workers, although some accounts have switched between different individuals.
The accounts appear to have been created by Amazon, rather than by the workers: All tweets are sent through Sprinklr, a social media management tool Amazon uses for its official accounts.
Although some accounts were suspended by Twitter for violation of its rules (likelyincluding “coordinated inauthentic behavior”), new accounts have been created as recently as March 2021.
California ‘crazed man’ accused of fatally stabbing elderly woman, dog in unprovoked attack to appear in court
The stabbing happened Thursday at about 1:35 p.m. near Lone Hill Park in San Dimas, a city in the San Gabriel Valley of Los Angeles County. Jeanne Ann Edgar, 66, of Glendora, California, and her dog, Sashi, were both pronounced dead at the scene, KCBS-TV reported.
Another victim, identified by authorities as a White man in his 30s, said he had parked his truck and was walking through the park toward the public restroom when Saldivar began approaching him while wielding a knife.
The man turned and ran from the suspect, who at first chased after him but then changed his focus to Edgar and her dog, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department.
Juvenile suspect in murder of Virginia girl held without bond: report
The boy was taken into custody Saturday, police said. In addition to being charged with second-degree murder, he was also charged with possession of a firearm in the commission of a felony and possession of a firearm by a juvenile.

GOP lawmakers warn against vaccine passports
“Considering that Democrats want to require vaccine IDs for people to conduct their basic daily activities, they now have zero grounds to object to voter ID laws,” House Minority Whip Steve Scalise, R-La., told Fox News.
“If under Democrat logic, you should need an ID to enter even a grocery store, surely there wouldn’t be an objection to showing an ID to legally vote.”
House Judiciary Committee ranking member Jim Jordan, R-Ohio, slammed the Biden administration for pursuing the idea of vaccine passports when the president “doesn’t seem to care about passports when it comes to illegal migrants crossing the southern border.”
Rep. Pete Sessions, R-Texas, said in a statement to Fox News that a vaccine passport measure “would be a complete government overstep.”

Germany Reports More Blood Clot Cases Associated With AstraZeneca Vaccine
Seven of the people who had blood clots connected with the AstraZeneca coronavirus vaccine have died, the Paul Ehrlich Institute, which is Germany’s federal medical regulatory body, told The Associated Press. Nineteen of the individuals affected by the blood clots were women while just two were men.
“The evidence we have is, at the moment, not sufficient to conclude with certainty whether these adverse events are indeed caused by the vaccine or not,” Sabina Straus, chair of the EMA’s Pharmacovigilance and Risk Assessment Committee.
The EMA recommended that patients and doctors were warned of possible side effects associated with the vaccine, according to the AP.
Rebels leave beheaded bodies in streets of Mozambique town
Fierce fighting for control of Mozambique’s strategic northern town of Palma left beheaded bodies strewn in the streets Monday, with heavily armed rebels battling army, police and a private military outfit in several locations.
The Islamic State group claimed responsibility Monday for the attack, saying it was carried out by the Islamic State Central Africa Province, according to the SITE extremist monitoring group.
The rebel claim said the insurgents now control Palma’s banks, government offices, factories and army barracks, and that more than 55 people, including Mozambican army troops, Christians and foreigners were killed. It did not provide further detail on the dead.

Mexico revises coronavirus death toll up by 60%, suffering second-most deaths globally
A report published by Mexico’s health ministry showed that by mid-February there had been just over 294,000 deaths “associated with COVID-19” – a nearly 60% increase from the originally published figure.
That figure has since risen by almost 27,000 more deaths through March, bringing the total to more than 321,000.
The new report was published Saturday with little fanfare. President Andrés Manuel López Obrador has faced significant criticism for his handling of the pandemic, the BBC reported.
Those figures put Mexico second after the U.S., but the population of Mexico is 126 million – far smaller than either the U.S. or Brazil, which previously ranked second-most: the U.S. boasts a population of over 328 million and Brazil has 211 million.
These developments show just how deadly Mexico’s second wave in January was.

The process of maturation requires multiple levels of sacrifice, including what some would call the ultimate sacrifice, putting another’s needs in front of your own. This is the role of the parent to the child, the mentor to the protege, and in Christian terms – Christ to the Believer.
Often, people think of the act of sacrifice in terms of loss, but it is just as valid to think of sacrifice as a necessary vehicle to future gain.
Without sacrifice, it would seem that the individual is incentivized to search for nothing more than impulsive pleasures with short-term gain and long-term consequence as a result.
