FBI: Nashville bombing was meant as suicide, not linked to terrorism
March 15 (UPI) — A powerful explosion set off in downtown Nashville early on Christmas Day was a meant as an act of suicide rather than of terrorism, the FBI said in a report issued Monday.
The bomber, identified as Anthony Quinn Warner, died in the blast but no one else was injured in the early morning explosion on a deserted street just north of downtown Nashville’s historic Honky Tonk district.
Following a “coordinated and comprehensive investigation” conducted by the federal, state and local law enforcement authorities, the FBI announced Monday the evidence shows Warner acted alone and the bombing was not related to terrorism.
Rather, the investigators concluded, the bombing was “an intentional act in an effort to end [Warner’s] own life,” motivated by “a totality of life stressors — including paranoia, long-held individualized beliefs adopted from several eccentric conspiracy theories, and the loss of stabilizing anchors and deteriorating interpersonal relationships.”
Man Yelling ‘Go Back to China’ Pepper Sprays Asian Gas Station Owner in Oakland
The incident occurred at a gas station along Broadway at around 11 a.m. on March 11. The man became frustrated after trying to pay for gas using quarters, according to ABC7’s Dion Lim.
“My staff, she’s like, ‘Well, wait, hold on there. You kind of have to take this to the bank because I can’t fit this all in the till,'” the owner of the gas station, who wishes to be identified as Cwell, said. Cwell reportedly attempted to calm the man down.
However, the situation escalated once the man started spewing xenophobic remarks at Cwell.
“He just started mouthing off… ‘You should go back to China,’ like that,” Cwell shared. “We were just bursting out laughing because it was so unbelievable.”
The man told the gas station staff he would return.
U.S. pandemic relief program mistakenly paid $692 million in duplicate loans: watchdog
The watchdog did not say how much if any of the $692 million mistakenly distributed by lenders had subsequently been reimbursed by the government. It initially said it would only guarantee one loan per borrower, meaning lenders, rather than the taxpayer, may be on the hook for the error.
Reuters reported in June that lenders had been trying to retrieve duplicate loans from borrowers.
In response to Monday’s report, SBA officials said the agency would flag all suspected duplicates for further review, and expected to have the matter resolved by September.
The watchdog added it did not see any evidence that borrowers intentionally exploited SBA systems to obtain multiple loans.
US to house up to 3,000 immigrant teens at Dallas site
DALLAS (AP) — The U.S. government plans to use the downtown Dallas convention center to hold up to 3,000 immigrant teenagers as sharply higher numbers of border crossings have severely strained the current capacity to hold youths, according to a memo obtained by The Associated Press.
The Kay Bailey Hutchison Convention Center will be used for up to 90 days beginning as early as this week, according to written notification sent to members of the Dallas City Council on Monday.
Federal agencies will use the facility to house boys ages 15 to 17, according to the memo, which describes the soon-to-open site as a “decompression center.”
U.S. Health and Human Services is rushing to open facilities across the country to house immigrant children who are otherwise being held by the U.S. Border Patrol, which is generally supposed to detain children for no more than three days.
Man drives car into homeless camp, killing 3: Police
A 71-year-old man drove his car into a homeless camp in San Diego, killing three and injuring nine.
The driver is being investigated for driving while impaired, according to police.
Chicago police sergeant shot in the face outside precinct
Whether the sergeant was targeted or struck with a stray bullet remains unclear. The officer’s identity has not been released, but Brown said they remain in “good spirits” in the hospital.
According to Brown, the shooting marks the 13th officer shot so far in 2021. Last year, 70 Chicago Police Department officers were shot.
The Windy City recorded a staggering 769 homicides in 2020, increasing 55 percent from 2019 – a jump in killings that puts last year among the highest in Chicago’s history, reversing a three-year trend, the Associated Press reported.
The city also logged 3,261 shootings in 2020, a significant spike from 2,140 shootings in 2019. Deadly shootings jumped by 53 percent, with December alone totaling 50, more than twice the number during the same month a year earlier.
ABC 7 reported that 78 percent of Chicago’s gun violence victims were black, according to the Cook County Medical Examiner’s office.
Two men charged with alleged assault on Capitol Police Officer Brian Sicknick, who died after riot
Federal law enforcement authorities have arrested and charged two men with assaulting U.S. Capitol Police officer Brian Sicknick with bear spray during the Jan. 6 riot at the Capitol building, but the cause of his death is still unknown.
The two men are charged with nine counts including assaulting three officers with a deadly weapon, civil disorder, and obstruction of a congressional proceeding. If convicted, they could each face up to 20 years in prison.
Officer Sicknick was one of five people who died during and after the riot. Kevin Greeson, 55, of Athens, Alabama; Benjamin Philips, 50, of Ringtown, Pennsylvania; and Rosanne Boyland, 34, of Kennesaw, Georgia, died of medical emergencies.
Ashli Babbitt, 35, was fatally shot by police during a confrontation inside the Capitol building.
Initial reports suggested that Sicknick had died from blunt force trauma after being struck by a fire extinguisher, but later reporting revealed that medical examiners did not find signs that the officer sustained any blunt force trauma.
New York train operator sues former union over continued dues deductions
According to the case filed in the U.S. District Court in New York’s Eastern District, Wayne Wong, who works for the Metropolitan Transportation Authority, tried repeatedly to resign from the Transport Workers Union Local 100 starting last June. However, each time, he was told to resubmit.
Finally, Wong claims union officials told him in July he had to submit his resignation in person at the union’s office in New York City.
Even after he complied with that request, the union dues deductions continue.
Wong is represented by the Fairness Center, a nonprofit public interest law firm. The lawsuit claims Wong’s Constitutional rights are being violated.

Officer Josh Baker pulled over a black Chevrolet Camaro, whose owner had six outstanding drug warrants, according to reports.
Officer Baker reportedly discovered what appeared to be marijuana and a white powdery substance and attempted to detain her, at which point he requests back-up officers.
Baker tells her to “turn around” as he tries to arrest her as she responds: “No hold on, don’t put me in handcuffs, I haven’t done anything wrong”.

YouTube Demonetizes World Net Daily for Defending Mike Lindell
World Net Daily, a conservative news and commentary site in operation since 1997, was demonetized by Google-owned YouTube after releasing a video defending MyPillow CEO Mike Lindell.
WND said it was demonetized (meaning its ability to generate ad revenue and receive donations through YouTube has been switched off) after “posting a short video in support of Mike.
In a press release, WND said Big Tech wants “totalitarian control” over what you are allowed to read, watch, and hear online.

ABC, NBC, CBS ignore Portland violence, chaos during evening newscasts
Portland has been rocked by violent and dangerous protests this year, but anyone who relies on ABC, NBC and CBS’ evening newscasts for information would have no idea.
ABC’s “World News Tonight,” “NBC Nightly News” and “CBS Evening News” have all completely avoided the story, according to the Media Research Center.
“The ABC, CBS, NBC evening news anchors, reporters and producers are suppressing this story.
As they’ve devoted zero seconds to the ongoing acts of anarchy in Portland this year,” MRC deputy research director Geoffrey Dickens wrote.
The MRC analyzed coverage from Jan. 1 through March 14 and found no coverage of the violence in Portland. The report came after a chaotic weekend that saw rioters vandalize property, resulting in multiple arrests.

Police find 4 dead at Indianapolis home, suspect found hiding in attic
At the multi-unit residence on North Randolph Street, officers found four people dead, including a child. It’s not clear how old the victims were.
Halfacre was apparently identified as a suspect in the case and remained at large Sunday following the mass shooting, Indianapolis Star reported.
Police said they believe Malik took off with the baby girl, though didn’t provide any details about the nature of their relationship.
Around 5:30 a.m. Sunday, authorities said the baby was located unharmed.
Florida man allegedly pulled out human ears while being questioned for grandpa slay
Parker initially told investigators that he acted in self-defense, saying the older man attacked him with a knife during a fight the two had while smoking marijuana, according to the report.
Kolby Parker, 30, was accused of fatally stabbing his 77-year-old grandad Ronald Wells, Sr., on Saturday evening inside the Lake County home they shared, the Orlando Sentinel reported.
He claimed he was forced to turn the knife on Wells, whose body was found on the front porch with multiple stab wounds.
But while he was being interviewed in the case, Parker allegedly took his grandfather’s ears out of his pants — and then lunged at a deputy, while trying to grab his gun and taser, the report said.
Florida driver mows down woman in Cracker Barrel parking lot
The Florida Highway Patrol is searching for the driver of a pickup truck that struck a female pedestrian in the parking lot of Cracker Barrel in Fort Myers last week.
Video footage of the incident shows a white pickup truck towing a utility trailer parked in the Cracker Barrel Old Country Store lot at 4260 Boatways Road at about 11:30 a.m. on March 8.
Anyone with information on the incident is asked to call FHP or CrimeStoppers at 1-800-780-TIPS (8477).
Ted Cruz demands meeting with Marine Corps leadership after ‘inexplicably inappropriate’ attacks on Tucker Carlson

Now that President Biden has signed the $1.9 trillion COVID-19 spending package into law, House and Senate Democrats are gearing up for a sweeping infrastructure package likely to come with an even higher price tag.
Democrats have been meeting with President Biden about the future package, which they hope will address the nation’s crumbling infrastructure as well as climate change concerns that are also a top party priority.
Senate and House committees have started working on proposals, and Democratic aides said they anticipate legislation as early as May.

Sri Lanka Announces Burqa Ban as Easter Jihad Anniversary Approaches
As the federal government does not have the unilateral power to implement such a ban, ministers will reportedly be working alongside lawmakers to draft it into law.
Reports indicated the government in Colombo will accompany this move with the shutdown of hundreds of madrassas, or Islamic schools, operating without government license or supervision in an attempt to diminish the influence of radical jihadist ideology.
Sri Lanka is a majority Buddhist country with significant Muslim, Christian, and Hindu minorities.
It was the site of one of the deadliest Islamic State attacks in history on Easter Sunday 2019 — a coordinated series of suicide bombings that killed over 250 people. The bombers targeted churches and hotels catering to Christians with Easter-themed brunch meals.
Witnesses told local media the suicide bombers in churches attempted to target the smallest children in the room, detonating their explosives in the back of the church where parents usually stand in the event they have to duck out with a fussy child at a moment’s notice.

As many as 70 killed in protests as Chinese factory torched in Myanmar’s bloodiest day since coup
Myanmar security forces killed 51 people in an industrial suburb of Yangon after Chinese-funded factories were torched on Sunday, firing on protesters in the bloodiest day in six weeks of protests against the junta that deposed the elected government of leader Aung San Suu Kyi, civic and aid groups said.
The 51 deaths occurred at Hlaingthaya township in Yangon, and another 12 were killed in other townships of Myanmar’s commercial hub and former capital, home to 5.4 million people.
At least 24 bodies had been taken to Hlaingthaya Hospital and other remains were kept in family homes, the aid groups said, requesting that their names be withheld for safety reasons.
The torching of the Chinese-financed factories came amid rising anti-China sentiment in Myanmar, where protesters accuse Beijing of supporting the coup and are wary of growing Chinese influence, and drew an appeal from China’s embassy in Yangon.
France also suspends use of AstraZeneca vaccine pending EMA guidance
France will stop administering AstraZeneca’s Covid-19 vaccine pending an assessment by the European Union’s medicine regulator due on Tuesday, French President Emmanuel Macron said on Monday.
Macron said the EMA regulator was expected to give guidance on Tuesday afternoon after a number of countries suspended use of the AstraZeneca shot.
Beijing skies turn orange as sandstorm and pollution send readings off the scale
A massive sandstorm has combined with already high air pollution to turn the skies in Beijing an eerie orange, and send some air quality measurements off the charts.
State media reported at least 341 people were reported missing in neighbouring Mongolia, which was also hit by sandstorms, and flights were grounded out of Hohhot in inner Mongolia.
Some residents in Ningxia, in China’s west, said they woke up in the middle of the night feeling as though they couldn’t breathe.
Large-scale deforestation is also considered a factor in the spring dust storms,
