“There are a lot of students who feel super uncomfortable doing this [assignment] because they don’t agree with white privilege and the ideology behind it,” said Hannah Brennan, a student in Jansen’s class.
“It reminds me of China with the reeducation camps,” she added.
“It feels like they’re very much pushing their opinions as facts and teaching opinions as facts. And it’s very manipulative.”

California county helps fund universal basic income program restricted to women of color
Officials in Marin County, California, have launched a UBI program in the county designed to give $1,000 a month to 125 qualifying residents for two years in partnership with the Marin Community Foundation.
The county is contributing $400,000 to the program, with the remainder of the estimated $3 million coming from the foundation.
The program is slightly modeled after a similar one that ran from February 2019 to February 2020 in Stockton, California.
The Marin County program, however, has a couple of conditions for residents to receive payments: recipients must be women of color with a child under the age of 18.

“We were working here, heard screaming,” he said outside Grind coffee shop, just feet away from where the attack took place. “I don’t know why he went nuts.”
Tony told Fox News another man “ran out from the park to help” the woman following the attack, but then “that guy, the big guy” — whom Tony described as 6-foot-5 — pulled out what “looked like a knife.”
“He was holding something metal. He started yelling at the other guy, then finally he left,” Tony said. “He just started walking away and then the police got here.”
The New York Post reported Tuesday that the building staff who witnessed the attack but did nothing has been suspended, citing the management company.
Remembering Officer Eric Talley: Boulder police hold memorial service
Eric Talley, 51 and a father of seven, was the first law enforcement officer to arrive at the scene of a mass shooting in Boulder, where he and nine others were killed on March 22.
Flatirons Community Church in Lafayette livestreamed the memorial service, which drew hundreds of first responders from across the state, as well as civilians.
Boulder County District Attorney Michael Dougherty added that Talley “was by all accounts one of the outstanding officers of the Boulder Police Department, and his life was cut too short.”
His father, Homer Talley, described his son as faithful and a supporter of the Second Amendment.
Murderer compared to ‘Dexter’ remains at large after dismembering Uber driver who had affair with wife
Tang had reportedly found himself in a lethal love triangle when he discovered his wife and his best friend, San Francisco-based Uber driver Piseth Chhay, had been allegedly carrying on an affair.
After Mother’s Day of that year – the day of the alleged homicide – Chhay had been declared missing. When human remains were found in a warehouse that Tang operated in Hayworth, California, though, it was clear the search for Chhay was over.
But the search for Tang remains ongoing.
In what was only a matter of days following the murder, Tang reportedly fled to Cambodia and his whereabouts are unknown.
Miami police arrest man in kidnapping, sex assault and shooting of 12-year-old boy
The 12-year-old boy had snuck out of his house on Friday around midnight and walked about 3 miles to a friend’s house in the city, according to police.
On his way home early Saturday, he was approached by an unknown male driving a black four-door sedan in the Brownsville community.
The man grabbed the boy and forced him inside the car, police said. He drove the victim a short distance before putting him in the back of the car and sexually assaulting him.
A struggle ensued after the assault and the boy was shot in the face, Detective Adalberto Fuentes said Monday in video posted to the department’s social media pages.
Video shows man brutally beating, choking Asian man on subway
The video, which was apparently shot on a Manhattan-bound J train in Bushwick, Brooklyn, shows someone relentlessly punching an Asian man in the head. The beating continues even when the victim curls up into the fetal position. With each blow to the head, the victim’s body can be seen convulsing.
The video then shows the attacker then putting the victim in a stranglehold from behind. With his arm around the helpless victim’s neck, the assailant locks his arms and appears to choke him unconscious.
At least one subway rider starts to yell “Stop, stop” but the attacker continues the assault, slamming the unconscious victim’s face into a seat. The victim’s limp body falls to the floor. The assailant then walks off the train as if nothing happened.
NYPD hunts for assailant seen in video brutally beating Asian woman on way to church
The attack was brutal and was caught on surveillance video from inside a lobby in Midtown.
The New York Post, citing police, reported that the suspect yelled anti-Asian statements while he beat the woman. Sources told the paper that the assailant yelled, “F—k you, you don’t belong here.”
The video appears to show the woman getting kicked in the stomach, which causes her to fall. The assailant proceeds to pummel her while she is on the ground, kicking her in the head and body.
An individual described in reports as a security guard — seems unwilling to render aid to the woman, and instead closes the door after the attack.
Man arrested after dragging off-duty Casa Grande police officer from car in parking lot
Casa Grande Police Department officials say the incident happened at around 3:15 p.m. when the officer noticed a man, later identified as Dominick Alford, attempting to steal from his own vehicle.
When the officer confronted Alford, he got in his car and took off. Police say the officer was dragged by Alford’s SUV at a high rate of speed, for several hundred feet.
Officers who responded to the scene say the officer had significant injuries to his torso and head.
San Diego public school teachers to give migrant kids in-person instruction before their own students
“The system is broken when San Diego teachers are teaching migrant children in person, but the 100k students of taxpaying families at San Diego Unified School District are stuck learning in Zoom school,” Emily Diaz, an SDUSD parent, told Fox News in an email.
“We agree that every child deserves an in-person education, but why are taxpaying students put last?
If this is a humanitarian issue then who is rescuing San Diego Unified students, because our leaders have failed them,” Diaz added.

Washington Post fact-checker Glenn Kessler wrote Biden’s claim couldn’t be substantiated.
“One could understand a flub in a news conference. But then this same claim popped up in an official presidential statement.
Not a single expert we consulted who has studied the law understood why Biden made this claim, as this was the section of law that expanded early voting for many Georgians,” Kessler wrote.
21 Senate Democrats urge Biden to put recurring stimulus checks, unemployment aid extension in recovery plan
Twenty-one members of the Senate Democratic caucus wrote to the president Tuesday urging him to include recurring direct payments and enhanced jobless benefits as part of his recovery plan.
The senators, led by Finance Committee Chair Ron Wyden of Oregon, aim to tie the aid to economic conditions so relief does not lapse too early.
“This crisis is far from over, and families deserve certainty that they can put food on the table and keep a roof over their heads,” the senators wrote. “Families should not be at the mercy of constantly-shifting legislative timelines and ad hoc solutions.”
Blackburn questions ICE, DHS on spending $86.9M on hotels for migrants
But Blackburn, R-Tenn., in a letter to DHS Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas and ICE acting Director Tae Johnson, is questioning the nonprofit’s past financial disclosures, and how the new contract funds will be used.
Blackburn said that in 2018, Endeavors brought in “over $38 million in contributions and grants,” and noted that “IRS filings show that nearly $22 million or almost half of those contributions went to salaries.”
“As the current contract stands, the cost to taxpayers for housing 1,200 migrant families for six months is about $71,000 per person,” Blackburn wrote.
“For a family of four, that amounts to a shocking $284,000 — enough to buy a small house.”

Philippine Fighter Jets Flying Daily over Reef Occupied by Hundreds of Chinese Ships
The Philippine Air Force has specifically deployed “AS211 jet aircraft” to Juan Felipe Reef to keep tabs on the Chinese fleet, which is believed to be manned by Chinese maritime militia, according to the Philippine news site Rappler.
“We are ready to defend our national sovereignty and protect the marine resources of the Philippines.
There will be an increased presence of the Philippine Navy and Philippine Coast Guard ships to conduct sovereignty patrols and protect our fishermen in the West Philippine Sea,” Lorenzana said in a statement issued March 27.

Iran said that it will not stop its 20% uranium enrichment before the US lifts all sanctions, Iranian state TV quoted an unnamed official as saying in reaction to the US media report that Washington would offer a new proposal to jump-start talks.
President Biden has taken several steps — often at the expense of U.S. allies — aimed at enticing Iran to rejoin negotiation, all to no avail thus far.

Berlin, Munich suspend AstraZeneca Covid-19 vaccines for under-60s
Germany’s medicines regulator Paul Ehrlich Institute (PEI) has now reported 31 cases of blood clots in people who have received AstraZeneca, Spiegel magazine reported on Tuesday.
Almost all cases are reportedly in younger and middle-aged women, prompting several German hospitals to suspend the use of the jab for women under 55 this week.
A clinic in North-Rhine Westphalia, Germany’s most populous state, said it was halting AstraZeneca jabs to investigate two reported cases of thrombosis, while Berlin’s Charité hospital extended its suspension to all under-60s following Kalayci’s announcement.
