Elon Musk Wants Neuralink Applicants to Make ‘Cyberpunk Come True’
Elon Musk is actively hiring cyber talent at Neuralink — for both the Bay Area in San Francisco and the company’s Austin, Texas location — to make “cyberpunk come true,” according to a Sunday Twitter thread.
Neuralink CEO Elon Musk said the company’s short-term goal will involve brain and spinal injuries. When the company first debuted Neuralink last August, Musk emphasized the device’s intended use was to be both affordable and help the greatest number of people.
“I think it’s going to blow your mind,” Musk said at the time.
In its early stages, Neuralink will help people suffering from several common injuries and disabilities, including memory loss, blindness, addiction, anxiety, depression, brain damage, and more — all with a coin-sized computer implanted inside our skulls, roughly 0.15 inches (4 mm) from the brain’s surface.

New York’s Health Officials Continue to Quit as Cuomo’s COVID-19 Power Trip Grows
State Health Commissioner Dr. Howard Zucker has not left. He attends Cuomo’s press conferences.
But the state lost Dr. Elizabeth Dufort, medical director in the division of epidemiology, and Dr. Jill Taylor, head of Wadsworth laboratory. The number two person at the Health Department took another job. Another one “is expected to leave” soon.
Zucker’s deputy resigned at the end of summer.

‘They are playing with our lives’: South Dakotans left on their knees by Keystone pipeline decision
Similar scenes played out across the country as newly unemployed workers and communities tied to the Keystone XL pipeline project felt the real-life consequences of Biden’s decision.
“Come down here. See the destruction you caused. See the pain of job loss. You took our chance to have a decent life with a stroke of the pen,” Gaylord Lincoln, a South Dakota semiretired mechanic, told the Washington Examiner. “It’s all bulls— in Washington. They are playing with our lives.”
The pipeline was supposed to bring economic prosperity to Harding, Butte, Perkins, Meade, Pennington, Haakon, Jones, Lyman, and Tripp counties. But instead of hope, it brought heartache and drove some families to the brink of financial ruin.
Flesner blames an anti-Trump movement for the cancellation of the XL pipeline and told the Washington Examiner she believes Biden killed the project as political payback.
“Anything Trump has done, [Biden] wants to undo,” she said. “They are totally turning the tables on us.”
Chicago Police: 23 Shot, Four Dead During Another Violent Weekend
At least 23 people were shot and four died across Chicago over the weekend, police officials said on Monday morning.
This weekend was less violent than the one before it, as 31 people were shot and seven were killed, in the midst of a winter storm that dumped at least a foot of snow in the city.
Authorities confirmed the death toll and shootings to ABC7 and other news outlets.
Officials said that four men were shot to death inside vehicles in separate incidents across Chicago, the Sun-Times reported.
Left-wing Capitol activist John Sullivan accused of violating terms of release with Internet use
Magistrate Judge Daphne Oberg, of the U.S. District Court for the District of Utah, issued a court summons for Sullivan based on the filing. He faces federal charges of civil disorder, entering a restricted building and violent entry or disorderly conduct.
The judge had ordered Sullivan to be released conditonally without bail on Jan. 15, deciding that prosecutors failed to meet the legal threshold required to keep him jailed.
Assistant U.S. Attorney Bryan Reeves had argued Sullivan is a risk for trying to threaten witnesses or jurors, but Oberg said Reeves lacked substantial evidence.
He has another case pending in Provo, Utah, in connection with a protest he organized in June. At that event, someone in attendance shot a motorist during an altercation.

Washington state police arrest 12 after homeless activists ‘forcibly take over’ hotel with knives, hatchets
“Before the occupation, the activist group had earlier reserved 17 rooms, which were occupied by currently unhoused individuals as the occupation occurred,” the city said.
One hotel worker was assaulted during the takeover, while the others sought refuge in the building’s basement, KING 5 reported.
People from the group overtook the two floors of the hotel and reportedly covered the windows with dark-colored tarps.
Lincoln Project disavows co-founder John Weaver after NYT details history of harassment of young men
The Lincoln Project disavowed its co-founder after a Times report featured interviews with 21 men who accused Weaver of sending “unsolicited and sexually provocative messages online to young men, often while suggesting he could help them get work in politics,” including an alleged victim who was only 14 years old.
“John Weaver led a secret life that was built on a foundation of deception at every level. He is a predator, a liar, and an abuser,” the Lincoln Project wrote.
“We extend our deepest sympathies to those who were targeted by his deplorable and predatory behavior.
We are disgusted and outraged that someone in a position of power and trust would use it for these means.”

GOP senators unveil $618 billion coronavirus relief proposal to counter Biden’s $1.9 trillion plan
Agroup of 10 Republican senators are proposing a $618 billion stimulus bill to counter the $1.9 trillion proposal that President Biden has unveiled.
The framework of the proposal includes $1,000 direct stimulus payments instead of the $1,400 that Biden proposed.Biden’s plan does not specify income requirements for the direct payments.
The GOP draft also has more funding for the Paycheck Protection Program and increased federal funds for public schools. The draft framework does not include the $350 billion in state and local relief funding that’s part of Biden’s proposal.
Dem CA Rep pressures Biden to give military authority to police, censor soldiers’ social media
After thousands of National Guard troops poured into the nation’s capital to protect Joe Biden’s inauguration following the Capitol riot – 26,000, to be exact – Rep. Jackie Speier (D-CA) called on the president to use executive authority to grant the military more authority to police service members’ social media accounts.
In a letter to Biden and Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin on Friday, Speier seemingly suggested there is a problem involving “white supremacy” and other “domestic terrorists” amongst service members.
Simply put, it seems to be an effort to further censor and punish conservative thoughts and ideas – now amongst the troops.
Pennsylvania Secretary of State Resigning After Department Failure: Governor
Wolf stressed that the resignation had nothing to do with the Nov. 3 election in Pennsylvania, which was beset by controversy after former President Donald Trump and surrogates claimed that rampant fraud occurred.
The secretary’s office had to advertise the proposed amendment to the state Constitution, which voters would have decided at the ballot box in each of the three months before the 2020 general election. The office never did, Wolf said.

California Gov. Gavin Newsom, facing GOP-led recall, criticized by Democrats over COVID-19 response
Democrats have been mostly reluctant to speak out criticize the governor, fearing that it would provide fodder for the recall campaign. But in recent weeks, a number of prominent Democrats and Democratic operatives have begun to openly voice some of their frustrations.
Much of the criticism stems from what many regard as the lack of transparency in Newsom’s administration. State health officials have largely refused to publicly release the data on which Newsom is basing his orders.
Democratic Assemblywoman Laura Friedman told the Los Angeles Times that many lawmakers have been left in the dark regarding the governor’s rationale behind his orders.

Further tests reveal WA security guard contracted infectious UK strain
The Perth security guard who contracted COVID-19, triggering a five-day snap lockdown, has tested positive for the contagious UK strain of the virus.
The man visited more than a dozen venues while infectious and greater metropolitan Perth, the Peel region, and the South West regions have all been included with the shut down zones.
Under the new hard lockdown, there are only four reasons to leave one’s home which include essential shopping, medical or healthcare needs – including compassionate requirements – exercise for only one hour with one other person, and work if you cannot work at home.
Western Australian Police have launched an investigation looking at how the man contracted the disease.

Worker at H&M supply factory was killed after months of harassment, claims family
The family of a young garment worker at an H&M supplier factory in Tamil Nadu who was allegedly murdered by her supervisor said she had suffered months of sexual harassment and intimidation on the factory floor in the months before her death, but felt powerless to prevent the abuse from continuing.
According to police reports, a man working as a supervisor at Natchi Apparels has reportedly confessed and been charged with her abduction and murder. Her family allege that she was also raped and are awaiting the result of a forensic report.
The family and a local union representing female workers at Natchi Apparels claim that Kathiravel had attempted to report the harassment and intimidation she was suffering at work, but no action was taken. They also allege that gender-based violence at the factory was widespread.

Taliban attacks in the Afghan capital of Kabul are on the rise, with increasing targeted killings of government officials, civil-society leaders and journalists, a report by a U.S. watchdog said Monday.
It comes as the Biden administration plans to take a new look at the peace agreement between the U.S. and the Taliban signed last February under President Donald Trump.
“Enemy attacks in Kabul were higher than during the previous quarter,” the report quoted U.S. forces. “They were much higher than in the same quarter last year.”
