Report: Facebook, Google Face Additional Antitrust Lawsuits

The Wall Street Journal reports that tech giants Google and Facebook are likely to have long legal battles ahead as federal and state antitrust authorities prepare to file new lawsuits against the firms in the coming weeks, according to individuals familiar with the situation.
Authorities are reportedly preparing as many as four more cases targeting Google or Facebook by the end of January 2021, these lawsuits would come shortly after the Justice Department’s antitrust lawsuit filed against Google last month. The lawsuits reportedly focus on whether the tech giant abused their power in the internet economy, focusing on Google’s position in the search and advertising industry and Facebook’s dominance in the social media market.
Both companies have denied using their power in an anti-competitive manner, saying that they operate in extremely competitive markets and that their services benefit consumers.

Officers with the Seattle Police Department witnessed “members of a protest” damage a KeyBank located in the 1600 block of Broadway around 8 p.m.
The group then smashed windows at a Starbucks in the 800 block of 12th Avenue before officers moved in and made three initial arrests. One person was arrested for property damage and another two for obstructing a law enforcement officer.
The group continued to march through the streets and caused more property damage to businesses and residences, the police department said in a press release. A fourth person was arrested for property damage before the group returned to Cal Anderson Park.
Florida woman dies weeks after being run over while defending son

According to investigators, the teens went to the woman’s home because of a “romantic entanglement” between the teens and Penton’s son.
Polk County Sheriff’s spokeswoman Carrie Horstman told WFLA that the teens attacked the woman’s son. Penton then went outside to confront them, and to take pictures of their van to show to police.
“They purposely and intentionally ran her over and critically injured her,” said Horstman. “They had ample opportunity and space to get out of that area as she stood there in the street to take pictures of them to give to law enforcement. Instead, they ran her down in the road.”
Rubio hammers Twitter for allowing image of soldier slitting child’s throat to remain up
Rubio accused Twitter of making “an intentional decision” of allowing the tweet to remain without even issuing a warning label, noting that during the 2020 presidential election, Twitter moved “rapidly” to flag election content with “warning labels on tweets of prominent Americans.”
“Social media platforms, including Twitter, have taken it upon themselves to regulate, moderate, and censor speech on their platforms,” the letter continued. “That is your right as a private company. However, the logic of such actions is increasingly difficult to understand in light of their inconsistency and raises questions of whether Twitter specifically should be eligible for Section 230 protections.”
The senator called on Twitter to address when Twitter was made aware of the tweet, whether Twitter reviewed it, why no action was taken if so, what steps would be taken to avoid “such mistakes in the future,” and whether Twitter has future plans to operate with China.
California’s Highest-Paid Govt Employee Worked for Org Tied to Chinese Espionage

Meng took the lead at the pension fund after China’s Thousand Talents Program recruited him to serve as the deputy CIO of China’s State Administration of Foreign Exchange (SAFE), a state-controlled entity.
The FBI considers the Thousand Talents Program an example of “China’s non-traditional espionage against the United States” that seeks to recruit people to transfer U.S. trade secrets and taxpayer-funded research into the hands of the Chinese government.
Meng told the propaganda outlet People’s Daily that he worked for SAFE out of patriotic commitment to “the motherland.”

On November 22, two people were killed when Lopez-Garcia allegedly walked into Grace Baptist Church and stabbed five innocent people.
Luckily, a responding officer was able to arrest the armed and dangerous suspect shortly after the attack.
Chief Garcia said Lopez-Garcia should have been detained by federal authorities given his violent and criminal background.

In an interview with The Associated Press, Barr said U.S. attorneys and FBI agents have been working to follow up specific complaints and information they’ve received, but they’ve uncovered no evidence that would change the outcome of the election.
“To date, we have not seen fraud on a scale that could have affected a different outcome in the election,” Barr told the AP.
Bipartisan Group of Lawmakers Unveils $908 Billion Pandemic Relief Bill

Everyone — Democrats and Republicans — agrees that pandemic relief is absolutely essential. But Congress is already preoccupied with trying to fund the government before the December 11 deadline.
It’s doubtful that anyone in Congress is going to focus on pandemic relief until the government is fully funded.
And with the House ready to adjourn for the year next week, it’s not likely that either side wants to rush a bill to the floor without most members having their say.
President Trump Questions Why Ga. Governor Isn’t Doing More Against Ballot Fraud

President Trump said all Republicans, especially Georgia Republicans, are angry over officials’ handling of the election in the Peach State.
While taking to Twitter Monday, the President questioned why Gov. Brian Kemp (R) will not use his emergency powers to overrule the secretary of state and do a match of signatures on envelopes. He said it would be a “goldmine” of fraud.
The President also called on officials to check the number of envelopes versus ballots, suggesting they won’t match up.
