Anti-Semitic incidents up 50 percent in five years, FBI says
The number of anti-Semitic hate-crime incidents rose 14 percent in 2019, data from the bureau’s annual hate-crime statistical report show, with police departments reporting 953 events and 1,032 victims.
That is 82 more incidents than in 2018, continuing a rising trend over the past half decade.Jews were in fact a leading target of hate crimes overall, regardless of motivation.
In absolute terms, only more black Americans were victimized; on a per capita basis, only gay men and trans people were more likely to be targeted, a Washington Free Beacon analysis found.
Man Who Allegedly Attacked Trump Supporters With a Firework Arrested and Charged
Dawson reportedly fled the scene before he was apprehended by officers, the Post reported. At least 21 others were arrested Saturday night.
Six people were reportedly charged with weapons-related offenses, including four individuals who carried a firearm without a license or permit, according to the Post. Two individuals were charged with assault on a police officer.
Multiple others were reportedly charged with theft, assault, or disorderly conduct, according to the Post.
Four shot in separate incidents across NYC, NYPD says
Four people were shot in separate incidents across the city on Sunday — including a man wounded during an attempted robbery as he directed a music video in Staten Island, according to cops and police sources.
Two people were shot earlier in the day — including a 20-year-old man shot three times in the chest on Hutchinson River Parkway, near the Einstein Shopping Center in the Bronx.
The victim, who suffered non-life-threatening injuries, was taken to Jacobi Medical Center.
Charges: Former Hennepin County probation officer abused job to help suspect in New Year’s Eve murder
Elsa Segura, 28, used her job to look up people — including a suspect charged in Baugh’s murder — for Lyndon A. Wiggins, authorities allege. Segura and Wiggins were romantically involved for “years” before Baugh’s kidnapping and murder, which shocked the community because of its brutality.
“Minneapolis police were aware from unrelated investigations that [Segura] would use her position as a Hennepin County probation officer to do research on certain individuals for Wiggins,” said the criminal complaint filed against Segura.
Segura worked for the county from June 2014 to Dec. 18, 2019. She is also a suvivor of the 2007 Interstate 35W bridge collapse.
Suspects in drive-by killing of 18-year-old left evidence in getaway car, prosecutor says
Bryant Coon, 20, and an 18-year-old male are each charged with first-degree murder, conspiracy and related firearm possession charges in the May 2019 shooting of Taquan Ellerbe on Bellevue Avenue.
The 18-year-old was a minor at the time of the crime and is charged as a juvenile, but Prosecutor Angelo Onofri’s office will seek to try him as an adult.
Inside the car, detectives found paperwork belonging to the 18-year-old and two phones. One had numerous photographs of Coon and the 18-year-old posing with firearms, authorities said. The other phone’s number was a registered contact number for Coon with the court system.
Woman kept husband’s body in freezer, loses suit to have it returned to her
“I’m not done,” Watters said of her legal battle. “They think they got away with something. But I’m not done.”
Watters has claimed that she kept 71-year-old Barton’s body in a freezer in her bedroom after he died of Lou Gehrig’s disease because she feared that a doctor would cut up the remains for medical study, the outlet reported.
“He told me to buy a freezer and to put him in it, so he could not be dug up,” Watters said.
24-hour heroin ‘hotline’ — staffed by drug dealers — busted on Chicago’s West Side, feds say
A member of the Gangster Disciples ran a 24-hour hotline to sell heroin and cocaine this summer — scheduling shifts and pressuring his staff like a sales manager, a federal criminal complaint says.
Dexstin Bryant allegedly oversaw the West Side operation and the hotline cellphone as it was passed between a dozen drug dealers, the complaint charges.
Investigators learned about the hotline this summer and allegedly made two dozen undercover purchases of fentanyl-laced heroin and crack cocaine, the complaint states.
Good Samaritan thwarts NYC attempted baby snatching with jiu-jitsu
The 33-year-old Kemsley said it all started when he heard a woman screaming as he was sitting on a bench in the park.
When he looked up he saw a man trying to take a baby in a stroller from the baby’s mother, who was holding onto the stroller with a 4-year-old child in her arms. There were a couple of people trying to stop the person but he was refusing to let go of the stroller.
Cellphone video captured what happened next, showing Kemsley grabbing the man from behind, wrestling him to the ground and then pinning him there.
Oregon Gov. warns of $1250 fines, 1 month in jail for violating new COVID mandates
On Friday, Gov. Brown released the order requiring bars and restaurants to return to takeout only and indoor facilities like gyms, museums, and skating rinks to completely close until the order will supposedly be lifted after December 2, The Oregonian reported.
The new orders are some of the most stringent in the state since a stay-at-home order in March.
Included in the “freeze” is a rule that indoor and outdoor gatherings must be limited to six people from two separate households. Grocery stores and pharmacies are also required to limit capacities.
Houses of worship are allowed indoor crowds of no more than 25 people. Those traveling are required to quarantine for two weeks upon arrival in the state.

Another Trump supporter tells the driver his accident is “unfortunate” as the motorist unsuccessfully tries gunning the car’s engine to move it away from the pole — and the damaged vehicle just won’t cooperate.
Seconds later the same Trump supporter notices flashing lights and announces, “Oh, and now you’ve got the cops here!”
California School District Bans ‘To Kill a Mockingbird,’ ‘Huckleberry Finn,’ Other Classic Novels
The decision was motivated, in part, by an alleged incident in which a student used a racial slur he learned in the book Roll of Thunder, Hear My Cry. “My family used to own your family and now I want a dollar from each of you for the week,” one student reportedly said to a black classmate.
PEN America, a non-profit organization dedicated to literature, argued in a petition that it was inappropriate to ban the books.
“Each of the books in question deal with difficult subject matter from our country’s complicated and painful history, including systemic racism,” the petition reads. “Blocking engagement with these important books is also avoiding the important role that schools can and should play in providing context for why these books inspire and challenge us still today.”
Police Ignore BLM Attacks on Restaurant Patron, Staff in San Francisco Suburb
After multiple assaults outside the restaurant, the small group of protesters continued marching down the street with no police in sight.
A statement from the Walnut Creek Police Department says they observed the group from “East Bay Resistance” marching in the streets “with sticks and signs, and wearing helmets, dark clothing, and masks.”
The statement says police made no arrests despite witnessing acts of vandalism and violence — including the assaults shown in multiple videos. Officials request the public come forward to identify those involved in criminal behavior.
Undeterred by law enforcement, the group proceeds to vandalize the Walnut Creek City Hall sign, according to a tweet by KRON4 journalist Dan Thorn.
Over 20 Shot, One Fatally, Across Violent Weekend in Lightfoot’s Chicago
CBS 2 reports “at least 20 people had been shot” by 10:14 p.m. Sunday night. By Monday morning ABC 7 / Chicago Sun-Times reported the number of shooting victims had risen to 22.
NBC 5 reports that a 14-year-old girl was among the weekend’s wounded. She was one of three individuals shot Sunday night around 9 p.m. at the Astronaut Flee dance studio.
Police are not sure if there was a single shooter or multiple gunmen, but shots were fired into the studio from outside and the 14-year-old and two adults were wounded.

“I wanted to test that claim by simulating what might happen if someone returned ballots that didn’t belong to him or her,” he wrote.
Joecks had nine co-conspirators. He wrote their names for them to then copy, trying to imitate his handwriting. The citizens had to sign the ballots to ensure there was no fraud perpetrated while conducting the test.
The journalist said the result was not surprising, given the stories that have emerged of a woman voting this year three years after she died and another being told her signature was valid on a ballot she said she never received.
One whistleblower, in fact, has come forward to say he was ordered by elections officials to process ballots without checking the signatures.
Judge rules California Gov. Newsom violated Constitution with election order
“Executive Order N-67-20 issued by the Governor on June 3, 2020 is void as an unconstitutional exercise of legislative power and shall be of no further force or effect,” the ruling states.
The executive order from Newsom included a section calling for registered California voters to receive vote-by-mail ballots. Newsom reportedly issued the order prior to the state legislature approving a similar law.
The recent ruling also said that the court issued a permanent injunction blocking the governor from using power under the California Emergency Services Act that alters statutory law or creates statutory law or legislative policy.

Undercover agents of the Nicolás Maduro regime kidnapped on Saturday an exiled Venezuelan businessman in the Brazilian border town of Pacaraima, shooting him in a leg and then forcing him into an SUV to cross clandestinely into Venezuelan territory, in an operation that failed in the end when the truck got stuck in the mud, area residents and the local press reported.
People close to businessman Andrés Antonio Fernández, owner of a Brazilian radio station that is critical of Maduro, said they fear that the frustrated attempt is only the first in a series of similar actions to be perpetrated against people perceived as enemies of the regime on the other side of the border.
“They have orders to take dead or alive people that have been taking actions against that government,” a person close to Fernández told el Nuevo Herald on condition of anonymity.

The revelation comes amid a surge of cases in Europe, host country Switzerland, and the city of Geneva, in particular, and the email said about half of the infections were in people who had been working from home.
But 32 were in staff who had been working on premises at the headquarters building, indicating that the health agency’s strict hygiene, screening and other prevention measures were not sufficient to spare it from the pandemic.

More Than 1,200 Detained In Belarus As Protesters Face Tear Gas, Stun Grenades
The Vyasna human rights group said most detentions were made in Minsk, where black-clad security forces used tear gas and stun grenades to disperse thousands of demonstrators. Two people were beaten by masked security officers inside a grocery store. Videos showed police detaining people and taking them away in police vehicles.
It was the largest number of detentions reported in a single day since the protests began. The total number of people detained since August is believed to be over 25,000, according to Vyasna.
At least 23 journalists were among those detained in Minsk and other cities, according to the Belarusian Association of Journalists.
COVID-19 Doctor Gets Burned Trying to Save Patients From Hospital Fire
The ten patients included seven men and three women, aged between 67 and 86, explained the Guardian‘s report. Six other COVID-19 patients were seriously injured and brought to a nearby hospital.
Dr. Denciu tried to save patients, leading to 40% of his body suffering second to third-degree burns. He was transported to Belgium’s Queen Astrid military hospital after having been looked after in Romania’s capital, Bucharest.
“I express my respect for the heroic doctor who showed particular courage and spirit of sacrifice in trying to save the patients,” said PM Orban in local news reports, perthe Guardian.

China rescue: British diplomat Stephen Ellison saves drowning woman
The consul general, who takes part in triathlons, turned the student over, lifted her face clear of the water and swam backwards to the steep sided riverbank.
“She was unconscious, she was not breathing and for a short time we feared the worst. But as we got back to the side, she started breathing again,” he told the BBC of the rescue, which took place on Saturday morning.
