RCSD: Suspect shot at patrol car before deputy shot him
Sheriff Leon Lott said deputies were called to the address because of a domestic dispute.
When one deputy got to the scene, a man fired an assault rifle at the deputy’s car, hitting it at least three times, Lott said. Thankfully, the deputy was not shot.
The sheriff said his deputy returned fire from inside the car, shooting the suspect in the arm.
After the deputy started shooting, the suspect ran to a nearby house and grabbed a woman who lives there around the neck, Lott said.
Bail set at $2M for teen accused in Wisconsin shootings
Kyle Rittenhouse, of Antioch, Illinois, is charged with fatally shooting Joseph Rosenbaum and Anthony Huber during a protest over a police shooting in August. He is also charged with wounding a third man, Gaige Grosskreutz.
Rittenhouse turned himself in to police in Antioch the morning after the Aug. 25 shootings.
He was extradited to Wisconsin on Friday and made his initial court appearance in Kenosha County on Monday afternoon.
In addition to the homicide charges, Rittenhouse faces counts of attempted homicide, reckless endangerment and being a minor in possession of a firearm.
‘Every city is preparing for it’: Police across the nation gear up for possible election unrest
Police departments are set to cancel days off, prepare tactical response teams and gather intelligence about possible election unrest as Nov. 3 quickly approaches, according to two police union officials.
The New York City Police Department (NYPD) on Oct. 24 told businesses within the boroughs to prepare for possible political violence, The Wall Street Journal reported Oct. 24. The department has reportedly been preparing for weeks to keep the city secure in the event of election-induced calamity.
Miami, Portland, Seattle, Minneapolis, Orlando, Chicago and other major cities have also reported prepping for possible violence, according to Fox News.
The vice president of the New York-based Sergeants Benevolent Association, Vincent Vallelong, told the Daily Caller News Foundation that he hadn’t seen such disaster preparation in his city since the 9/11 terrorist attacks.

USS Marinette, latest Navy littoral combat ship, launched
The shipyard was awarded the contract to build the vessel in 2016. The keel was laid in 2019. The ship will undergo acceptance trials before it is officially received by the Navy.
The littoral combat ship class consists of the Freedom variant and Independence variant. Lockheed Martin leads the production of the Freedom variant. The new ship is the Navy’s 13th Freedom-variant ship. Currently, 11 LCSs of both variants are under construction, the Naval Sea Systems Command said in a statement.
The littoral combat ship is regarded as highly maneuverable, lethal and adaptable, a high speed, agile, shallow draft, mission-focused vessel suitable for shallow water and ocean-going assignments useful in mine countermeasures, anti-submarine and surface warfare missions.
Facebook Blocks Pro-Life Group From Fundraising For Pregnant Women In Crisis
IRL’s Project Love was created “to support pregnant women and new mothers in a financial crisis by providing grants for rent, utility bills or other necessities,” but soon after the group attempted to share their fundraising advertisement on the big tech company’s platform, it was censored.
This restriction comes as Facebook began cracking down on certain ads to “protect the integrity of the upcoming United States 2020 elections.” According to the temporary policy, ads about social issues, elections, or politics are not allowed on the social media platform from Oct. 27 through election day on Nov. 3.
While Facebook claims that ads involving political figures, parties, candidates, and voting advocacy are currently paused, it is unclear how the social media company defines “social issues” and why IRL’s ad was restricted under these qualifications.

On Friday, Rona Love, who had been convicted of two murders in the 1990s, was arrested for shooting someone in the neck in a Manhattan subway. How was he back on the streets?
Love, a man who now considers himself a female, was placed on parole in April 2019. On July 15 of this year, Love was arrested for drunkenly hitting someone in the head with a broom and was released without posting any bail, despite the unbelievable grace he received with parole for his prior murder convictions.
Thus, even a double murderer who violates the terms of parole is not reincarcerated in New York.

Justice Department Again to Monitor Compliance with the Federal Voting Rights Laws on Election Day
“Federal law entrusts the Civil Rights Division with protecting the right to vote for all Americans,” said Eric S. Dreiband, Assistant Attorney General for the Civil Rights Division.
“Our federal laws protect the right of all American citizens to vote without suffering discrimination, intimidation, and harassment. The work of the Civil Rights Division around each federal general election is a continuation of its historical mission to ensure that all of our citizens can freely exercise this most fundamental American right.”
The Civil Rights Division enforces the federal voting rights laws that protect the rights of all citizens to access the ballot. Since the passage of the Voting Rights Act in 1965, the division has regularly monitored in a variety of elections around the country throughout every year to protect the rights of all voters, and not just in federal general elections.
On Nov. 3, the Civil Rights Division plans to send personnel to 44 jurisdictions in 18 states to monitor for compliance with the federal voting rights laws:

‘The Kids Are All Right’ actor Eddie Hassell dead at 30 after shooting incident
The Grand Prairie, Texas, Police Department confirmed that Hassell, who was born in the state, was shot in what appears to be a carjacking incident, although they’re still investigating the crime.
“On Sunday, November 1, 2020, at around 1:50 a.m., Grand Prairie Police Officers responded to a report of a shooting in the 3000 block of West Bardin Road. Upon arrival, officers located victim Eddie Hassell, 30, of Waco, suffering from apparent gunshot wounds,” a statement posted on the department’s Twitter account reads.
Investigators are asking for the public’s help in identifying the suspect or suspects by offering a $2,500 reward for information that leads to an arrest.

His sister, Chelsey Walker, reportedly told TMZ that he shot himself while out in public on Saturday night in Allegan, Mich.

Tax professionals are gearing up for a spike in services should Biden win, as wealthy customers want to make gifts, set up trusts and other funds before the end of the year, according to Axios.
Other families are toying with the possibility of selling their family businesses before Biden could take office in order to avoid 40% in transaction taxes compared to paying 20% this year, per Axios.
“Everything is being fast-tacked because of the election,” Suzanne Thau, a trusts and estates attorney with Schwartz Sladkus Reich Greenberg Atlas said, per CNBC.
“It’s just an explosion in estate planning.”

Impunity for crimes against journalists prevails, report shows
Over the past 14 years, 1,167 journalists have been killed, and about nine out of 10 cases have gone unpunished, according to United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization figures.
Those figures do not include journalists who suffer from non-fatal attacks, torture, arbitrary detention, intimidation, harassment and the risks faced by female journalists, including sexual attacks.
In 2020, the percentage of resolved cases worldwide was 13%, a “slight decrease” in the rate of impunity compared with 12% in 2019 and 11% in 2018, the UNESCO Director-General’s Report on the Safety of Journalists and the Danger of Impunity said.
Still, impunity prevails with 87 percent of inquiries into 1,167 cases of journalists being killed since 2006 unresolved, according to the report.
Austrian police say several injured after gunfire in Vienna
Initial reports that a synagogue was the target of an attack couldn’t immediately be confirmed.
Austrian news agency APA quoted the country’s Interior Ministry as saying that one attacker has been killed and another could be on the run.
Police said the operation in the center of the city was ongoing and urged people to avoid all open spaces and public transport.
“There are several injured persons,” police tweeted. “We are on site with all available forces. Please avoid all public squares in the city.”
Pakistan’s plan to make disputed region a fifth province angers India
The strategic area bordering China and Afghanistan forms part of Pakistan-administered Kashmir – an area claimed by Pakistan and India, but controlled by Pakistan since the war of independence in 1947.

Death toll from 7.0-magnitude earthquake near Greece and Turkey rises to over 80
The earthquake caused the most damage in Izmir, Turkey’s third-largest city, with a population of nearly 3 million people. So far, there have been 79 deaths reported in Turkey and more than 100 people have been rescued alive from fallen debris, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan said Saturday.
Responding to the destruction from the quake, Turkish Vice President Fuat Oktay said 26 badly damaged buildings would be demolished in Izmir. “It’s not the earthquake that kills but buildings,” he said.
An elderly man was pulled alive from the rubble on Sunday.
Germany Re-Enters National Lockdown, to Last Four Weeks
The restrictions that took effect Monday are milder than the ones Germany imposed in the first phase of the pandemic in March and April.
This time around, schools, kindergartens, non-essential shops and hairdressers are to remain open.
But leading officials decided last week that a “lockdown light” was necessary in light of a sharp rise in cases that has prompted many other European countries to impose more or less drastic restrictions.
On Saturday, the national disease control center reported the highest number of infections in one day — 19,059 — since the pandemic began. Figures at the beginning of the week tend to be lower, and the center reported 12,097 cases Monday. But that compared with 8,685 a week earlier, underlining the upward trend.
England’s Coronavirus Lockdown Could Last Until Next Year
On Saturday, Prime Minister Boris Johnson confirmed media rumours that England was going to go into a second lockdown, starting from November 5th and due to end on December 2nd. The country would then return to regional tiered restrictions.
Under the rules, Englishmen will be forced to stay in their homes, only permitted to leave for work, school, exercise, and buying groceries or medicine. ‘Non-essential’ shops will also be ordered to close, leaving only retailers that sell food or other necessities to remain open.
England will not go down the extremely oppressive route of Wales, however, which banned the purchase of ‘non-essential’ items from supermarkets during their 17-day fire-break which started last month.
Race to save 100 whales in Sri Lanka’s biggest mass beaching
The short-finned pilot whales began beaching at Panadura, 15 miles (25km) south of Colombo, shortly before dusk. Within an hour their numbers swelled to about 100, a local police chief, Sanjaya Irasinghe, said.
“With the help of local residents we are trying to push them back (into the ocean),” he said. “But they keep getting washed ashore. We are getting help from the navy to rescue these whales.”
The national Marine Environment Protection Authority (Mepa), whose officials were helping with the rescue operation, said it was the largest single pod of whales stranded in the south Asian country.

The shipment was headed from Vietnam to Australia, but suspicions were reportedly raised by its unusual route.

8th Hong Kong democrat arrested following chaotic legislative meeting, as lawmakers decry ‘political oppression’
The lawmaker was due to report to Western Police Station on Monday morning for another offence in connection to a Tuen Mun Park assembly last July.
