House of A.D. King added to African American Civil Rights Network by Sec. of Interior David Bernhardt
BIRMINGHAM — On May 11, 1963, the house in Birmingham where Reverend Alfred Daniel Williams “A.D.” King lay asleep with his family was bombed by someone angry at King’s leadership in the civil rights movement.
Fifty-seven years later, U.S. Secretary of the Interior David Bernhardt traveled to that same house so he could personally oversee its addition to the African American Civil Rights Network.
According to the King Institute as Stanford, angry protesters filled the streets that May evening after learning of the failed assassination attempt at the faith leader’s home.
A.D. King went out to join the protesters, who were on the verge of descending into riots.
“My friends, we have had enough problems tonight. If you’re going to kill someone, then kill me. … Stand up for your rights, but with nonviolence,” he told the crowd, which reportedly dissipated soon after.
The African American Civil Rights Network was created by a unanimously passed act of Congress and signed into law by President Donald Trump in January 2018. It catalogs and publicizes locations significant to the African American Civil Rights Movement of the 1960s.
Two Kroger workers fired after refusing to wear LGBTQ apron. Now federal watchdog is suing chain for religious discrimination.
The lawsuit claims ex-workers Brenda Lawson and Trudy Rickerd said the company implemented a policy in April 2019 that required employees to wear an apron that included a rainbow heart, which they say endorses LGBTQ values, the network said.
The women claimed wearing the symbol would violate their religious beliefs, and that they even tried to offer alternatives, ABC News said, citing the lawsuit.
The network — citing the lawsuit — added that Kroger didn’t fire other employees who declined to wear the new apron or covered the heart emblem without requesting religious accommodations.
Union boss sentenced for ordering attack on workers who refused to join union
Jeffrey Veach, 57, the former president of an Indiana chapter of the International Association of Bridge, Structural, Ornamental, and Reinforcing Iron Workers (BSOIW) was charged for his role in the incident in 2018, according to the Department of Justice (DOJ).
He and co-defendant Thomas Williamson, a business agent for BSOIW, each pleaded guilty in January to one count of extortion conspiracy, the DOJ said.
“Under the pretext of serving their union, [Veach] victimized the very type of people [he was] supposed to be fighting for; innocent, hard-working iron workers, who were just trying to do their jobs,” said DOJ organized crime attorney Alexander Gottfried, according to the Northwest Indiana Times.
Authorities make second arrest in execution-style murder of 5-year-old Cannon Hinnant
Wilson County, North Carolina, police arrested 21-year-old Aolani Takemi Marie Pettit earlier this week. She was charged with aiding Sessoms after he reportedly murdered the child.
According to local reports, Pettit allegedly helped Sessoms flee from police before he was taken into custody the day after the shooting.
WTVD-TV reported that authorities charged Pettit with felony accessory after the fact. She received a $250,000 secured bond.

Stories began to circulate on Tuesday claiming that Apple’s artificial intelligence program, Siri, related law enforcement officers to terrorists.
Now, Apple is apologizing for their mistake.
On Tuesday Law Enforcement Today reported that after an update released by Apple, users began to notice Siri’s odd response when asked “hey Siri, where are the terrorists?”
Instead of asking users to clarify or rephrase the question Siri directed them to the nearest police station.

Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) agents tasked by fired former Director James Comey to take down Donald Trump during and after the 2016 election were so concerned about the agency’s potentially illegal behavior that they purchased liability insurance to protect themselves less than two weeks before Trump was inaugurated president, previously hidden FBI text messages show.
The explosive new communications and internal FBI notes were disclosed in federal court filings today from Sidney Powell, the attorney who heads Michael Flynn’s legal defense team.
“[W]e all went and purchased professional liability insurance,” one agent texted on Jan. 10, 2017, the same day CNN leaked details that then-President-elect Trump had been briefed by Comey about the bogus Christopher Steele dossier.

CNN, broadcast networks ignore Hunter Biden revelations, others downplay Senate report
The report goes further and alleges that not just Hunter Biden but other members of the Biden family “were involved in a vast financial network that connected them to foreign nationals and foreign governments across the globe.”
In one instance, the report stated that Hunter Biden “opened a bank account” with a Chinese national linked to China’s communist government, which “financed a $100,000 global spending spree” for the former vice president’s brother, James Biden, and his wife, Sara Biden.
Apparently, these new revelations were not newsworthy to many of the major news networks. CNN and all three nightly news programs on ABC, CBS and NBC completely avoided the subject. MSNBC host Rachel Maddow was the only host on the entire network to address the Senate report but spent those roughly two minutes of coverage downplaying it.
Biden campaign retires for the day at 9 a.m. as election looms
With just 40 days until the presidential election, Joe Biden’s campaign called a lid at the early hour of 9 a.m. Thursday — meaning the Democratic nominee won’t be holding any public events for the rest of the day.
Biden’s campaign blasted out the email at 9:20 a.m., announcing the 77-year-old Democratic nominee would spend the day hunkered down in the Wilmington, Delaware, home where he has been sequestered for much of the coronavirus pandemic.
His running mate, Sen. Kamala Harris (D-Calif.), also has no public events.
Senate panel preparing to subpoena Google, Facebook and Twitter for CEO testimony
A top staffer for Senate Commerce Chair Roger Wicker (R-Miss.) wrote in the email to staff Wednesday that invitations have been sent to the top executives and “unless we receive a very prompt affirmative response, we will be issuing the subpoenas.”
John Keast, the panel’s staff director, said Wicker has notified ranking member Maria Cantwell (D-Wash.) of his intent to issue subpoenas “to compel the attendance” of Google’s Sundar Pichai, Facebook’s Mark Zuckerberg and Twitter’s Jack Dorsey.
That notice to Cantwell, according to Keast, gives the CEOs until the end of the day Thursday to respond before resorting to subpoenas. Cantwell could still object to the notice, which would negate the deadline.

China expanding detention camp network in Xinjiang, researchers say
China’s network of detention centers in the northwest Xinjiang region is much more extended than previously thought and has been expanded in recent years, according to research unveiled by an Australian think tank.
The Australian Strategic Policy Institute (ASPI) said on September 24 the number of facilities where China is believed to have detained more than 1 million Uyghurs and other mostly Muslim Turkic-speaking minorities is around 40 percent greater than previous estimates and the network has been growing despite China’s claims that many Uyghurs have been released.
Accounts have emerged of torture, rape, and other abuse in the camps.
ASPI said that by using satellite imagery, eyewitness accounts, media reports, and official construction-tender documents, it had identified more than 380 “suspected detention facilities” in Xinjiang.
