Fire at Jewish Student Center Ruled Arson
The university’s Chabad Center for Jewish Life went up in flames late Tuesday night, causing approximately $150,000 in damages.
A Delaware fire marshal announced that the fire was arson and a criminal investigation is underway.
The university has withheld labeling the incident a “hate crime” until the investigation is complete, though it affirmed its solidarity with the Jewish community.
The building was not occupied at the time of the fire.
Seattle rioters allegedly seal police precinct doors using quick-dry concrete, start fire nearby
The Seattle Police Department released body camera footage on Wednesday showing officers being repeatedly hit with fireworks that were allegedly being thrown by rioters on Aug. 16 and 17 in the SoDo neighborhood of the Washington state city, police said.
Just one day earlier, the department said police were attacked by protesters who broke windows, scrawled graffiti and threw objects at its West Precinct on Monday night before moving to the East Precinct.
There, they started a fire next to the building and “placed quick-drying cement in exterior precinct door locks,” police said, in an alleged attempt to prevent the officers from being able to get out, according to local KOMO News.

According to information disclosed during court proceedings, Hogan repeatedly used social media accounts and the Internet to reach out to minor girls in the Philippines.
His minor victims ranged in age from 12 to 17, and each victim told Hogan how old she was. Hogan offered his victims as little as $19 for extremely graphic sexual images that the girls took of themselves and one another to send to him.
Hogan also sent child pornography to his minor victims to groom them and show them the kinds of images he liked.
As Judge Peterson noted, Hogan’s conduct far exceeded producing and collecting child pornography.
The Court found that in addition to the online recruitment of minor victims, Hogan repeatedly traveled to the Philippines and engaged in illicit sexual conduct with his minor victims.
Anti-Trump activists plan protests, concert to disrupt president’s RNC acceptance speech
President Trump will formally accept the Republican nomination from the White House and deliver a speech to close the convention from the South Lawn.
Fencing and barriers have again been bolstered outside the White House ahead of expected demonstrations.
A fireworks display is expected at the Washington Monument at the conclusion of his remarks.
Organizing group Shutdown DC announced it would “crash Trump’s party” with a rally Thursday night.
The action began at noon with a “Power to the People Rally for Workers Rights” held outside Jeff Bezos’ Washington, D.C., home.
South Carolina college student, stepfather fatally shot in head on front lawn over fender bender: reports
Laura Ashley Anderson, 21, and Charles Nicholas Wall, 45, were killed outside a home in Georgetown, S.C., which was recently purchased by Anderson, where she expected to begin her new adult life.
Ty Sheem Walters III, 23, allegedly rear-ended Wall as he turned into the driveway of the home near the intersection of Indian Hut Road and Highmarket Street, just off of U.S. 521, around 5 p.m., according to the Georgetown County Sheriff’s Office.
He then allegedly got out of the vehicle and shot Wall, Anderson, and another person, WPDE reported.
Wall was shot at least twice in the head and torso. Anderson was shot at least once in the head.
U.S. Marshals Find DOZENS of Missing Children in Georgia
“Operation Not Forgotten” resulted in the rescue of 26 children, the safe location of 13 children and the arrest of nine criminal associates.
Additionally, investigators cleared 26 arrest warrants and filed additional charges for alleged crimes related to sex trafficking, parental kidnapping, registered sex offender violations, drugs and weapons possession, and custodial interference.
The 26 warrants cleared included 19 arrest warrants for a total of nine individuals arrested, some of whom had multiple warrants.
Fannie and Freddie extend foreclosure suspensions to year’s end
Fannie and Freddie, which backstop about $5 trillion of home loans, will also extend their moratorium on evictions from real-estate owned properties until at least Dec. 31, the Federal Housing Finance Agency said in a Thursday statement.
The relief on foreclosures and evictions were both set to lapse at the end of the month.
The extensions are intended to keep consumers from being kicked out of their residences even if they can’t pay their mortgage or rent amid a surge in layoffs and lost income.
FHFA Director Mark Calabria, whose agency regulates Fannie and Freddie, said the extensions will protect more than 28 million borrowers with a loan guaranteed by the companies.
Virginia Democrats Pass Bill That Eases Sentencing for Assaulting Police
The bill would strike down Virginia’s six-month mandatory minimum sentence for striking an officer and provide judges the discretion to lower charges to a misdemeanor in less severe cases.
Despite vehement opposition from Republicans, Democratic lawmakers fast-tracked the passage of the bill with a party-line vote.
Republican members argued that the bill undercuts police officers who are confronting a nationwide crime wave.
The new legislation follows Virginia governor Ralph Northam’s (D.) administration’s recent decisions to grant parole to convicted murderers, including Vincent Martin, who was serving a life sentence for murdering a police officer.
Black Lives Matter protesters exchange gunfire with property owners amid march to DC
State police said a property owner contacted authorities just after 11 p.m. about a group of people in a private business parking lot, and troopers later learned about 30 activists had been traveling on foot and in vehicles from Milwaukee to Washington, D.C., the station said.
About 11:35 p.m. at the same location — and prior to police arrival — the property owners confronted the activists, police added, according to WTAE.
In a separate incident a day later, a man was charged with discharging a firearm in the parking lot of a Bedford County hotel where the protesters were staying, authorities told the Cumberland Times-News.
Since one of the activists reportedly livestreamed the incident on Facebook, troopers were able to identify vehicles — and troopers said they later stopped a 1988 Ford truck, in which Jeremy William Decker was the passenger, the paper said.
Nevada sees a downward trend in COVID-19 cases
The Nevada Hospital Association noted in their Wednesday COVID-19 report that the state’s health care infrastructure “continues to appreciate a decline in COVID-19 demand and currently is not being significantly stressed by the virus.”
Demand on Clark County’s health care infrastructure also continues to decline, NHA noted.
“The health care infrastructure within Clark County is in fair condition with sufficient excess capacity and capability,” the report said. “A few facilities are experiencing greater than normal occupancy in the general hospital and intensive care units, but this too is decreasing.”

Democrat governors who ordered nursing homes to take COVID patients probed by DOJ
The Justice Department said it is probing four Democratic-led states that pushed nursing homes to admit new residents during the coronavirus, despite heightened risks to the elderly population from contracting COVID-19.
New York, New Jersey, Michigan and Pennsylvania have been under scrutiny for high mortality rates, particularly among the elderly.
The states all issued orders pushing nursing homes not to refuse new admissions even though there may have been warning signs of COVID-19. New York, for example, specifically banned testing for people being transferred from a hospital to a nursing home.

House Republican Leader Kevin McCarthy responded to Pelosi advising Biden not to debate Trump.
“President Trump’s passion, energy, and debate skills are unmatched. It’s no surprise that Pelosi wants to keep Biden in the basement,” he wrote on Twitter.
Voters Sync With Trump More Than Biden On Major Issues
Voters are more likely to identify with President Trump than with Democratic nominee Joe Biden when it comes to the big issues.
They also give Trump a slightly better chance these days of having a successful presidency.
A new Rasmussen Reports national telephone and online survey finds that 40% of Likely U.S. Voters say Trump’s views are closest to their own when they think about the major issues facing the nation.
Thirty-four percent (34%) say Biden’s views are closest to their own.

Two dead in clashes south of Lebanese capital
The Lebanese army said on its Twitter account that it had deployed units to Khaldeh town to “control the situation” and restore calm. Army units deployed to nearby towns to open blocked roads, it said.
State news agency NNA and the security source said gunfire was exchanged. The confrontation erupted after of row a few days ago over a poster marking the Shi’ite Muslim Ashoura religious ritual in an area where both Shi’ites and Sunnis reside, the security source and a second official said.
Several political parties voiced concern over the incident as it continued to unfold, reflecting fears it could escalate as the country faces multiple crises amid a political vacuum.
Saudi-led coalition intercepts a ballistic missile launched towards Najran
The statement, carried by the Saudi state news agency SPA, added the missile was launched in a way to target civilians.
Yemen has been locked in conflict since 2014 when the Iran-aligned Houthis seized Sanaa, the capital, and then much of the country’s north.

Hong Kong: China arrests 10 after intercepting boat ‘fleeing Hong Kong’
China’s coastguard said the arrests were made on Sunday morning off the southern province of Guangdong, near Hong Kong.
Hong Kong media reports said those on board the vessel were trying to reach Taiwan to claim political asylum.
Hong Kong has seen a wave of arrests of activists in recent weeks under a controversial national security law imposed by China in June.
A social media post by the Guangdong Coast Guard on Wednesday said those arrested were being held on suspicion of unlawfully crossing the border.
