Two police body camera videos in killing of George Floyd released
Two body-worn camera videos from the day George Floyd was killed by Minneapolis police will be publicly released as of Monday by the court after a coalition of media companies intervened and argued for their unrestrained release.
The move comes more than a month after a defense attorney filed the two videos with the court as part of a motion, which makes them public data under state law.
The court initially withheld them out of concerns that it might taint the jury pool, then allowed them to be viewed by appointment.
Derrius Guice strangled girlfriend until she was unconscious, charging documents say
Derrius Guice strangled his girlfriend until she was unconscious in his Ashburn home in March, according to charging documents. When she awoke, the NFL player was crying and tapping her.
The woman, who was only identified in court documents using initials, told authorities Guice also pushed her and pulled her hair during the encounter, according to the charging documents filed in Loudoun County General District Court on Monday.
The charging documents provide the first in-depth look at the allegations against Guice.
Study: Nearly 80,000 Texas public sector workers make more than $100,000, costing taxpayers billions
(Teh Center Square) – As state and local governments seek to address sharp revenue declines due to the COVID-19 economic fallout, a new report found nearly 80,000 Texas public employees make more than $100,000 a year.
For city managers, the 10 highest Texas salaries ranged from $319,946 to $880,486. The 10 highest compensated school superintendents made between $365,771 and $452,014.
A total of 18,600 public servants were paid more than Gov. Greg Abbott, who earned $153,750.
Roughly 9,000 public school system employees make more than $100,000, which costs taxpayers $1.1 billion annually.
Texas man charged with kidnapping in death of soccer mom who was his ex-wife
Richard Ford, 40, was also facing a capital murder investigation into the death of the woman, Melissa Banda, 37, authorities said.
Ford was arrested after deputies searching through brush in a rural part of Hidalgo found her body Friday, KRGV-TV reported Sunday.
On Thursday, McAllen police began looking for Ford after they said he had been seen forcing Banda into a white SUV against her will, the station reported.
Florida homeowner utilized Second Amendment right when he killed intruder: sheriff
The homeowner acted in self-defense when he killed Ronald Fleet, 55, in Land O’Lakes Saturday afternoon, Pasco County Sheriff Chris Nocco said.
“Any loss of life is tragic, but the victim was utilizing his Second Amendment right to protect himself and his family from the fear of Ronald, who was carrying a gun and kicking in the door,” Nocco said, according to Fox 13 Tampa.
“I can’t imagine the fear they were going through.”
A member of the homeowner’s family was Fleet’s estranged wife, Nocco said, according to reports.
Barr accuses media of ‘projecting a narrative’ in coverage of unrest: ‘People are being told a lie’
In an interview with Mark Levin on Fox News’ “Life, Liberty & Levin,” Barr lamented that while people are “rushing the police” and “throwing rocks,” the media reports on “peaceful demonstrators” instead.
Barr went on to say that he was “appalled” by coverage of the violence because “it’s happening right out in the streets,” in public view.
“Anyone with eyes can see what’s happening.
They see the violence, they see these groups of agitators in their black outfits, and their helmets, and their shields, which incidentally have the – have the hammer and sickle on them most of the time, rushing the police, causing violence, throwing rocks, people showing up with the rocks and frozen bottles,” Barr said. “That’s happening. It’s happening in front of people.”

Suspended Wisconsin Officer Assaulted, Shot At By Mob At His Home, Police Say
“Last night, protesters came to my girlfriend’s house while I was there, and tried to kill me,” Mensah wrote on Facebook, according to Fox 6.
“We were both assaulted, punched and ultimately shot at several times. A shotgun round missed me by inches.”
“I’m all for peaceful protests, even against me, but this was anything but peaceful,” he continued.
“The irony in all of this is that they chanted Black Lives Matter the entire time, but had zero regard for any of the black children that live there or me, a black man.”
Cities rocked by violence: 100 arrested in Chicago, dozens shot in Denver, Washington, D.C., explosion in Baltimore
Violence struck many major cities over the weekend as police clashed with crowds, gunmen injured dozens and a “major gas explosion” rocked a neighborhood.
A riot was declared Sunday night in Portland where protesters blocked a road and set fires while marching to a police union building. Meanwhile in Chicago, an officer-involved shooting sparked unrest which led to the arrest of more than 100 alleged looters.
Dozens of people were also injured in shootings in Denver and the nation’s capital. In Baltimore, at least three homes were involved in the explosion that killed at least one person and injuring at least two others.
California Public Health Director Suddenly Quits After Massive Virus Data Error Discovered
Gov. Gavin Newsom in a statement offered thanks to Angell “for her service to the state and her work to help steer our public health system during this global pandemic, while never losing sight of the importance of health equity.”
However, her departure is shrouded in political questions as the state government reckons with a data glitch that failed to log nearly 300,000 infectious disease testing records (though not all were coronavirus cases and some could be duplicates), clearly impacting decision-making at the highest levels of the California government.

YouTube Reinstates Live Action’s Viral Video Describing Abortion Procedures
The pro-life group Live Action initially posted “Abortion Procedures: 1st, 2nd, and 3rd Trimesters” on February 24, 2016.
Former abortionist Dr. Anthony Levatino describes four abortion procedures during the first, second, and third trimesters of pregnancy in the video, which had garnered 1,792,579 views as of Monday morning.
This is not the first time that Live Action content has been temporarily removed or censored on social media platforms.

Howard Dean Backs China Sanctions Against Hawley, Cruz, Rubio
Dean tweeted support for Beijing’s decision to impose economic sanctions on 11 U.S. legislators and human-rights activists, including Republican senators Josh Hawley (R., Mo.), Marco Rubio (Fla.) and Ted Cruz (Texas).
The measures are in response to the Trump administration’s decision to sanction top Hong Kong officials for participating in Beijing’s crackdown on the pro-democracy movement.
“We’d like to sanction them too., [sic.] Can we send them to Beijing permanently,” Dean wrote on Monday in a tweet linking to a news article about the sanctions.

While Trump’s action boosted unemployment benefits, created a 120-day eviction moratorium, a payroll tax holiday until the end of the year, and extended student loan relief, Pelosi accused him of failing to “comprehend the seriousness or the urgency of the health and economic crises facing working families.”
Despite Pelosi’s disdain with Trump’s actions, calling them an “illusion,” Wallace noted that it was better than “having no bill at all,” and that “not coming to any agreement wasn’t going to provide any of the things that you want either.”
Pelosi, visibly upset by Wallace’s question, told Wallace he “clearly” did not “have an understanding of what is happening.

Ron Johnson Subpoenas FBI Director For All Records Related To Origin Of Russia Probe
Johnson subpoenaed FBI Director Christopher Wray for all records and documents related to the FBI’s investigation into Russia’s 2016 election interference, FISA abuse, and surveillance of Trump campaign affiliates.
The subpoena demands all documents be turned over to Justice Department Inspector General Michael Horowitz by Aug. 20.
Johnson also shared a 12-page letter Monday morning, laying out how Democrats are attempting to smear his committee’s investigation into abuse at the highest levels of the FBI and Department of Justice as “Russian disinformation,” and defended his investigations into Vice President Joe Biden and his son Hunter over their dealings with Ukraine.

New Ebola Outbreak In Congo Creates Unparalleled Challenges During A Pandemic
Alongside the Covid-19 pandemic and ongoing battles with cholera and measles, the Congo has now confirmed almost 80 new cases of Ebola.
But what makes this 11th outbreak most frightening is the hotspots geographic proximity to Kinshasa, the Capitol of the country and home to more than 11 million people.
The newest cases have been identified in Mbandaka (Équateur province), with an estimated 33 reported deaths in just the last few weeks.
Hong Kong Police Raid Newspaper, Arrest Media Mogul Under New Security Law
Around 200 police officers raided the newspaper’s office and arrested at least nine men including Lai and other senior executives, Reuters reported.
Lai is suspected of “collusion with a foreign country/external elements to endanger national security” and other crimes, the police said.
Lai is the highest-profile person in Hong Kong to be arrested under the national security law passed earlier this year by the mainland Chinese government in Beijing.
City-wide demonstrations and hundreds of arrests followed the implementation of the law.
