St. Louis’ top prosecutor says she’s charging couple who flashed guns at crowd marching to mayor’s office
Gardner, the city’s top prosecutor, said Mark and Patricia McCloskey also faced a misdemeanor charge of fourth-degree assault over the June 28 incident.
“It is illegal to wave weapons in a threatening manner — that is unlawful in the city of St. Louis,” Gardner said in a statement. She added that she was recommending a diversion program such as community service in lieu if jail.
The McCloskeys have said many times they were defending themselves, with tensions high in St. Louis and other cities over race and law enforcement.
They said that the crowd of demonstrators broke an iron gate marked with “No Trespassing” and “Private Street” signs, and that some violently threatened them.
In a statement to Fox News, the couple’s attorney, Joel Schwartz, called the charges “disheartening.”
Esther Salas: ‘Body found’ as police probe attack on judge’s family
The son of Judge Esther Salas was killed in the attack in New Jersey on Sunday and her husband was badly injured.
A man dressed as a FedEx delivery man opened fire at their home, police said.
The suspect in the attack has not been officially identified, although he has been named by some US media.
A package addressed to Judge Salas was found inside his car, sources said.
The suspect’s body was discovered in Liberty in New York’s Sullivan County, about 130 miles (210km) from the crime scene, according to CBS News.
Orlando to test sending therapists, social workers along with police for mental health calls
Orlando Police Department officers responding to people who are in mental health crises could soon be joined by a social worker, counselor or therapist, as part of a pilot program announced Monday among other proposals to revamp the agency’s practices.
The Orlando City Council heard a proposal for the “co-responder” program during a budget workshop.
If approved, the program is expected to cost $750,000 in the 2021 fiscal year, which begins Oct. 1.
Mayor Buddy Dyer said one of the goals for the upcoming budget is to “refocus funding on our police department and expand our efforts to create racial equity.”
Florida woman calls 911 over broken refrigerator; cops get her a new one
Abusing the 911 system by calling over non-emergencies can get you arrested. But the outcome was much different for an elderly Florida woman who didn’t know what else to do when her refrigerator broke down.
Cheryl Nanartonis of Jensen Beach, who doesn’t have any extra money, was so distraught that her food would spoil that she called the emergency line, the Martin County Sheriff’s Office said Sunday.
The dispatcher sent deputies to the home of Nanartonis, who “believed she was in crisis.”
Portland ‘Wall of Moms’ acting as human barrier between protesters, law enforcement
The women, wearing yellow shirts and bike helmets, were seen linking arms and chanting “Moms are here, feds stay clear!” during a protest in the Oregon city Sunday night, according to footage posted on social media.
“We are about protecting peaceful citizens’ right to protest,” Bev Barnum, a 35-year-old mother of two identified by BuzzFeed News as the organizer of the “Wall of Moms” told the website.
Brenna Burnett, a 29-year-old participant, told BuzzFeed News that the barrier the women are forming is “about Black moms every day losing their children, husbands, brothers, friends.”
63 Shot, 12 Dead in Chicago This Weekend, Mayor Says She Has ‘Great Concerns’ About Federal Help To Quell Violence
It is a staggering statistic, with 41 different shooting incidents occurring between 6 p.m. Friday and midnight Sunday. WGN reported that since Jan. 1, 203 children — 17 and under — have been shot in Chicago, with 35 of those children killed.
Despite the gruesome violence tearing apart Chicago, Mayor Lori Lightfoot is spending her time fretting over President Donald Trump’s proposal to send in federal help to ease the violence.
“We don’t need federal agents without any insignia taking people off the street and holding them I think unlawfully,” Lightfoot said to NBC5. “That’s not what we mean.”
Chicago Police Superintendent David Brown felt differently about the federal assistance.
Report: Government Contractors Received PPP Loans While Getting Paid
A new analysis by the Wall Street Journal, released Sunday, revealed at least 68 Florida companies received both government contracts and PPP loans despite having active state projects.
The approved loans valued to about $150, 000 despite existing contracts dated back to April.
Treasury Secretary Steve Mnunchin has suggested tougher PPP restrictions to ensure checks are going to the right businesses.
“A next phase of relief should extend the PPP, but on a more targeted basis for smaller companies and those that are especially hard hit,” he stated. “Such as restaurants, hotels, and other travel and hospitality business.”
Alabama man accused of a dozen sex crimes arrested on new rape charge a month after his release: report
Terrance Terrell Keeton, 27, of Montgomery, was arrested Wednesday on a first-degree rape charge.
He is accused of holding an 18-year-old woman at his home on Sheldon Road on July 9.
He allegedly raped her between 9 and 11 p.m. after the victim declined his advances several times, the Montgomery Advertiser reported, citing court records.
Keeton was released from jail in early June on a $100,000 bond. A judge took away a cash stipulation from his bond in connection with five first-degree rape and seven first-degree sodomy cases from 2016.
Anti-cop ‘mob’ swarms Back the Blue event in Denver, bloodying several before shutting things down: reports
The sixth annual Law Enforcement Appreciation Day event was scheduled to be held Sunday from 3 to 6 p.m. at the amphitheater in Civic Center Park in Denver. It was advertised by the Pro Police Rally Colorado Facebook page.
Randy Corporon, an attorney who helped organize the “family-friendly” event involving food and live music by Becker Band, said Denver Police Chief Paul Pazen had asked him to either reschedule or move the pro-police gathering from its normal location, citing a risk that officers could be put in danger as Black Lives Matter demonstrators planned a counter-protest also at the Civic Center Park.
“He was agitated that we’re going to get his officers hurt,” Corporon told the Denver Post.“My response to him was that he should allow his officers to do their job and if people are down there breaking the law, to stop them.
Because they’ll have nothing to fear from us.”
Trump vows to send feds into cities facing violence, as DHS reportedly drafts Chicago deployment plan
“New York and Chicago and Philadelphia and Detroit and Baltimore … we’re not going to let this happen in our country,” Trump said in the Oval Office.
“We will have more federal law enforcement. That I can tell you.”
Trump has specifically singled out Chicago in recent weeks for the surge in homicides and other violent crime there – blaming “liberal Democrats” for the spike and promising swift action.
Police in Chicago reported that 10 people were killed over the weekend by gun violence and 60 more injured – including 10 minors – in a spate of shootings that eclipsed those during the same weekend last year, in which 43 people had been shot, three fatally, according to the Chicago Sun-Times.

Rep. Maxine Waters spotted pulling over to confront police in LA for stopping Black driver: report
The California Democrat was driving in her home district over the weekend when she parked her car and walked over to the L.A. County Sheriff patrol car, TMZ reported.
“They stopped a brother so I stopped to see what they were doing,” Waters said on the video.
Waters said an officer told her she was parked illegally.
“They said I’m in the wrong place and they’re going to give me a ticket. That’s OK as long as I watch them,” she continued.

Black woman dumps paint on more Black Lives Matter murals in NYC: ‘We want our police’
Bevelyn Beatty, 29, livestreamed each installment on her Facebook page. In her most recent post, Beatty recounted covering up parts of the murals with paint.
“Ya’ll, we did an all-nighter,” Beatty says in a Sunday Facebook post. “Let me tell you something, yesterday was epic.”
Beatty could be seen in the first livestream smearing paint outside the Midtown skyscraper, as police tried to apprehend her.

Supreme Court refuses to expedite Trump records ruling, further delaying House bid to obtain docs
The Supreme Court on Monday morning refused a request from the House of Representatives to move up the timeline under which a ruling in a case concerning President Trump’s financial records would officially be issued, further delaying House Democrats’ quest to get ahold of Trump’s documents.
Justice Sonia Sotomayor was the only recorded justice who said she would grant the request, which House Democrats said was necessary because “[t]he Committees’ investigations are ongoing, remain urgent, and have been impeded by the lack of finality in these litigations, which were initiated in April 2019.”
The ruling will come into force on Aug. 3, as originally scheduled.
White House Chief Of Staff Says He Expects Criminal Indictments To Result From Durham Probe
According to White House Chief of Staff Mark Meadows, it’s time for people to go to jail as a result of U.S. attorney John Durham’s probe into the origins of the Russia investigation.
His comments came after Senate Judiciary Committee chairman Lindsay Graham released two recently declassified documents last week, which suggest FBI officials were skeptical of reports in early 2017 of contact between the Trump campaign and Russian intelligence officials.
Meadows went on to say new documents may be released in the coming days that will not only show that the Trump campaign was spied on, but will show the FBI did not act appropriately in its investigation.

China, U.S. Escalate Forces, Threats in South China Sea
