Flynn judge seeks rehearing by full appeals court after being ordered to dismiss case
“The panel’s decision threatens to turn ordinary judicial process upside down,” Sullivan’s lawyer argued in a 69-page petition to the U.S. Court of Appeals for the D.C. Circuit on Thursday.
“It is the district court’s job to consider and rule on pending motions, even ones that seem straightforward.
This Court, if called upon, reviews those decisions — it does not preempt them. … And en banc review should be granted.”
The three-judge appeals panel ordered Sullivan to grant the Justice Department’s motion to drop the criminal charges against President Trump’s former national security adviser in late June.
Video: New York City starts painting Black Lives Matter mural in front of Trump Tower
New York City started painting a Black Lives Matter mural Thursday on Fifth Avenue in front of Trump Tower.
Local television network WPIX reported the block of the street would be closed to cars until Sunday while the mural was painted.
Mayor Bill De Blasio responded to Trump’s posts, saying “Black people BUILT 5th Ave and so much of this nation….we are honoring them.”
Several cities across the country have painted murals in support of the Black Lives Matter movement, including Washington, D.C. which painted “Black Lives Matter” in 50-foot yellow letters near the White House to honor the protesters. D.C. Mayor Muriel Bowser also renamed the location of the mural as “Black Lives Matter Plaza.”
Mayor apologizes for sign that said ‘all lives matter’
Melrose Mayor Paul Brodeur ordered the message, which said “the safety of all lives matter,” to be taken down immediately, he tweeted Wednesday.
The electronic sign was put up on Main Street and appeared to belong to the Melrose Police Department, according to the photo that Brodeur posted.
“I have just been made aware that the following traffic sign is being displayed on Main Street. I have ordered that it be taken down immediately and am taking steps to find out how this happened,” Brodeur said. “I apologize to the residents of Melrose.”
Melrose Police Chief Michael L. Lyle condemned the message and announced an investigation into the matter in an online statement.

Planned Parenthood official slams Kanye West for claiming group is doing ‘the devil’s work’
The context of his remark is not clear because Forbes has yet to release a transcript of the interview. However, West has in the past been critical of abortions, which Planned Parenthood performs as part of its reproductives services program.
The rapper, producer and entrepreneur once claimed that Democrats have been “making [black people] abort our children.”
Planned Parenthood affiliates reportedly perform roughly 300,000 abortions annually.
On Thursday, Nia Martin-Robinson, the director of black leadership and engagement at Planned Parenthood’s national headquarters, slammed West’s purported comment.
California security guard charged with murder after shooting customer who didn’t wear a mask
The incident occurred at the Gardena market in South California on Sunday, when the customer, Jerry Lewis, reportedly entered the store without a mask and got into an argument with the guard, Umeir Hawkins.
Masks are mandated in the state of California, a rule put into effect by Democratic Gov. Gavin Newsom in mid-June as the state saw a resurgence in coronavirus cases amid phased reopenings of businesses.
Lewis apparently left the store, returned and continued fighting with Hawkins, who then fatally shot Lewis as he walked away, prosecutors said.
Ohio’s oldest abortion clinic closes, pro-life advocates celebrate: ‘A long time coming’
“It’s the end of the road for their business model.
I believe if their business was doing well, was profitable, they would have sold it to another physician group or continued operating,” Ohio Right to Life President Michael Gonidakis told the Columbus Dispatch.
“It’s a long time coming and very positive news that we have one less abortion clinic in Ohio, especially in Franklin County, which annually has some of the highest numbers of (abortions of) all 88 counties,” Gonidakis added.
U.S. Army Message: ‘Make America Great Again,’ Columbus Day Are Signs of ‘White Supremacy’
The graphic listed other behaviors it deemed evidence of white supremacy, including, “Celebration of Columbus Day,” the “Denial of White Privilege,” “Talking about ‘American Exceptionalism,’” and saying “There’s Only One Human Race.”
The email invited “all soldiers and (Department of the Army) Civilian Personnel” to attend the U.S. Army’s “Operation Inclusion” seminars on July 8 and 9 at the Redstone Arsenal Army Base in Alabama.
The email was sent by Chaney P. Pickard from the U.S. Army Aviation & Missile Center using an official government email.
The message named the “U.S. Army Equity & Inclusion Agency” and “Assistant Secretary of the Army — Manpower and Reserve Affairs” as authors.
Vandals cut down 9/11 Memorial flagpole in New York village
Washingtonville Police Chief Brian Zaccaro told the newspaper that those behind the vandalism used a tool to sever the flagpole about five feet from its base and then scrawled a message on the part left standing.
Police would not disclose the nature of the message, but did reveal that an eagle figure attached to the flagpole was found next to a toppled sign at the St. Mary’s Parish Center about a half-mile away.
Washingtonville Mayor Joseph Bucco said the village will replace the damaged flagpole and a $3,000 reward is being offered for information about the incident and the suspects, the Times-Herald Record reported.
Crews continue work to remove Richmond’s Confederate statues
Crews returned to the site of a monument honoring Confederate naval commander and scientist Matthew Fontaine Maury.
A statute of Maury was removed last week, but a large bronze globe that was part of the monument was left behind.
The Maury statue was unveiled in 1929 — the last of five Confederate statues erected on Richmond’s Monument Avenue.
Four other monuments were removed last week, and a statue of Gen. J.E.B. Stuart was taken down by crews Tuesday.
Supreme Court Rules Half Of Oklahoma Belongs To Native American Reservation
The justices ruled in favor of 71-year-old Jimcy McGirt, a member of the Seminole Nation who served more than two decades in prison after being convicted of raping a 4-year-old girl in 1997 in eastern Oklahoma’s Wagoner County, Reuters reported.
McGirt, who was appealing a 2019 state appeals court decision, did not deny his guilt before the justices.
The court ruled that the crime took place in land recognized by the justices as part of the Muscogee Creek Nation’s historical claim, which encompasses much of eastern Oklahoma.
As a result, the rape that took place more than 20 years ago would have been beyond the jurisdiction of the state of Oklahoma, according to Reuters.
Supreme Court punts, denies Trump immunity but blocks House Dems from tax docs
The rulings are on-brand for the court under the leadership of Chief Justice John Roberts, avoiding a fraught political issue in the middle of an election year, and ruling narrowly on major disputes, especially those involving conflicts between the other branches.
“President is neither absolutely immune from state criminal subpoenas seeking his private papers nor entitled to a heightened standard of need,” Roberts wrote in the court’s majority opinion in the New York case.
The court limited its ruling and the arguments before it to whether Trump has “absolute immunity” and state prosecutors are required to show a “heightened need” in order to obtain documents as part of investigations into a president.

How exactly do its authors plan to pay for this socialist utopia? No one knows. There aren’t even any estimates on how much the bill would cost, which further shows its creators are deeply unserious.
Ilhan Omar’s Campaign Paid Her Lover-Turned-Husband $878,000
The New York Post, which first broke the story, also found that Omar paid Mynett’s firm almost $200,000 in March 2020 alone, shortly after their marriage.
The payments precede their wedding, showing Omar was also paying Mynett while she was having an affair with him.
Omar’s campaign paid Mynett’s firm more than any other client this year, hundreds of thousands of dollars more than their second-largest patron.
Back in August 2019, the Washington Examiner suggested that almost a third of Omar’s campaign payments were being made to Mynett.
Serial Plagiarist Joe Biden Cribs Economic Slogan From United Nations
Biden will unveil his $700 billion economic recovery plan, titled “Build Back Better,” in a speech outside Scranton, Pa., on Thursday.
The alliterative slogan previously appeared in an April United Nations campaign urging countries to exploit the coronavirus pandemic as an opportunity for “enhancing climate action,” among other agenda items.
Biden has blatantly plagiarized from overseas sources in the past. During a presidential primary debate in 1987, he was caught stealing lines (and hand gestures) from a speech given months earlier by U.K. Labour Party leader Neil Kinnock.

China accuses Australia of violating international law
China has accused Australia of violating international law after Prime Minister Scott Morrison announced Australia would offer visas to residents of Hong Kong.
Beijing’s sweeping new national security laws cracking down on subversion have attracted mounting criticism from the west.
In response to the law, the Australian government will follow in the United Kingdom’s footsteps and offer a path to permanent residency.
The nation’s extradition agreement with Hong Kong will also be suspended.
The Chinese government lashed out in response – warning the government against meddling in its affairs.
Thousands to pour into Qld as state reopens borders today
Thousands of people will pour into Queensland today, as the state reopens to all other states and territories excluding Victoria.
Anyone trying to enter the state will need to fill out a new border declaration form proving they have not been in Victoria in the last 14 days.
Anyone caught falsifying the form will face fines up to $4,000.
Police warned drivers trying to cross the border they faced delays up to three hours.
US steps up firepower as China consolidates gains in South China Sea
The USS Nimitz and USS Ronald Reagan aircraft carrier strike groups recently demonstrated what the Navy called “unmatched sea power” while conducting rare dual-carrier operations in the South China Sea, as military muscle flexing continues on both sides of growing discord in the region.
The defense leaders of the U.S., Japan and Australia on Tuesday expressed “serious concern” over recent actions by China in the South China Sea, including the continued militarization of disputed features, “dangerous or coercive use of coast guard vessels and maritime militia,” and efforts to disrupt resource exploration by other countries.
On June 30 more than 350 paratroopers from the 4th Infantry Brigade Combat Team Airborne out of Alaska parachuted onto Guam as part of an “emergency deployment readiness exercise” described by the Army as “the largest airborne operation here in recent memory.”
China takes over Hong Kong hotel for state security police headquarters

Following an all-night operation overseen by several high-ranking officers in the Hong Kong police force, the new headquarters is now gearing up to enforce a draconian security law that includes online content and peaceful forms of public expression within its dragnet.

Drunken African Migrants Assault Mayor on Greek Island
The incident is not the first time Stantzos has confronted illegal migrants in the city. In December, he joined a group of locals in trying to remove migrants who were occupying a square in the town who he claimed had vandalised locals’ cars.

Missing Seoul mayor’s body found after massive search
His daughter called police on Thursday afternoon and said her father had given her “a will-like” verbal message in the morning before leaving home.
Kim Ji-hyeong, a Seoul Metropolitan Government official, said Park did not come to work on Thursday for unspecified reasons and had canceled all of his schedule, including a meeting with a presidential official at his Seoul City Hall office.
The Seoul-based SBS television network reported that one of Park’s secretaries had lodged a complaint with police on Wednesday night over alleged sexual harassment such as unwanted physical contact that began in 2017.
US sanctions Chinese officials over repression of minorities
The decision to bar these senior officials from entering the U.S. is the latest of a series of actions the Trump administration has taken against China as relations deteriorate over the coronavirus pandemic, human rights, Hong Kong and trade.
Just a day earlier, the administration had announced visa bans against officials deemed responsible for barring foreigners’ access to Tibet.
