Fort Hood soldier suspected in disappearance of Spc. Vanessa Guillen kills himself after human remains found

AUSTIN, Texas — The remains of missing Fort Hood soldier Spc. Vanessa Guillen have likely been located, and another soldier suspected of being involved in her disappearance killed himself Wednesday morning as police approached him, Army Criminal Investigation Command announced.
The suspect shot himself at about 1:17 a.m. Wednesday as officers of the U.S. Marshals Service, Killeen Police Department and the Lone Star Fugitive Task Force attempted to make contact with him in the 4700 block of East Rancier Avenue in Killeen, the central Texas city just outside the gates of Fort Hood.
Another suspect, a civilian, was arrested by the Texas Rangers.
The civilian suspect, who was not identified, is the estranged wife of a former Fort Hood soldier and was in custody in the Bell County Jail awaiting charges by civilian authorities, according to CID.
‘A heroic act’: Teen drowns after rescuing 12-year-old friend at Northern California lake
Witnesses told first responders that a 12-year-old boy had entered the water at the reservoir’s Eucalyptus Day Use Area and began struggling to stay above water due to the “uneven lake bottom and not knowing how to swim,” authorities said.
The boy’s 17-year-old friend entered the water to help and managed to hand the child over to another nearby swimmer.
Authorities later received reports that the teen had become tired and suffered a leg cramp before subsequently going underwater.

“Many people came out and were thanking the officers they were thanking me. They were so glad to — I think we don’t even realize the level of trauma to some of the folks who live around there, what they were experiencing,” Seattle Police Chief Carmen Best said on Thursday.
The East Precinct is “partially operational” and is staffed with some personnel, Best told King 5 on Thursday.
Mayor Jenny Durkan (D) on Wednesday ordered the immediate dismantling of the “autonomous” zone, citing gun violence, narcotics use, rape, robbery, assault, increased gang activity, noise disturbances, property damage, and business harassment.
Officials subsequently dismantled the area on Wednesday, removing barriers as law enforcement arrested individuals who refused to leave the area.

The rioters also tore off wood boards protecting the courthouse’s windows and used them for firewood and barricades, according to Fox News.
“Protesters threw water bottles and other projectiles as police fired pepper balls and at least one flash-bang at protesters in front of the courthouse, according to freelance reporter Sergio Olmos,” the article noted.
Boeing communications chief resigns over decades-old article on women in combat
SEATTLE (Reuters) – Boeing Co’s (BA.N) communications chief Niel Golightly has resigned his position, the company said on Thursday, following an employee’s complaint over an article the former U.S. military pilot wrote 33 years ago arguing women should not serve in combat.
“My argument was embarrassingly wrong and offensive. The article is not a reflection of who I am; but nonetheless I have decided that in the interest of the company I will step down,” Golightly said.
In Thursday’s statement, Golightly said, “The dialogue that followed its publication 33 years ago quickly opened my eyes, indelibly changed my mind, and shaped the principles of fairness, inclusion, respect and diversity that have guided my professional life since.”

Florida cops joking in bodycam video after firing rubber bullets at protesters were under attack: chief
The video from Fort Lauderdale police officers’ body cameras was initially obtained by the Miami Herald as part of a public records request.
The paper published about two and a half minutes of the footage in its report Wednesday detailing the May 31 clash between police and protesters.
Fort Lauderdale police released the full 8-minute, 43-second-long video recorded by Baro’s body-worn camera later Wednesday in response to the report.
“The entire video clearly demonstrates our officers were under attack by a group of people who chose to use violence instead of peace to antagonize the situation,” Fort Lauderdale Police Chief Rick Maglione said in a statement.
Feds arrest ‘ringleader’ in attack on Andrew Jackson statue by White House
Law enforcement sources tell Fox News that Jason Charter was arrested at his residence Thursday morning, without incident, and charged with destruction of federal property.
He was arrested by the FBI and U.S. Park Police as part of a joint task force.
These sources add that Charter has connections to Antifa and was in a leadership role on the night of June 22 when a large group of protesters tried to pull down the statue.
“They were very organized,” a federal law enforcement official said. “Charter was on top of the statue and directing people … they had acid, chisels, straps and a human chain preventing police from getting to the statue.”
UMass Nursing Dean Fired For Saying “Everyone’s Life Matters”
Dr. Neal-Boylan had only been in her position for a few months when she was fired.
The reason, according to many reports, is that she sent an email on June 2 to the Solomont School of Nursing on the recent anti-racism demonstrations across the country that include the words “everyone’s life matters.”
Dr. Neal-Boylan was heralded last September as a “visionary leader” by the university in taking over the deanship.
Her writings include strong advocacy for those with disabilities in the nursing field. Those writings show tremendous empathy and concern for inclusivity in the profession.
Record jobs gain of 4.8 million in June smashes expectations; unemployment rate falls to 11.1%
Nonfarm payrolls soared by 4.8 million in June and the unemployment rate fell to 11.1% as the U.S. continued its reopening from the coronavirus pandemic, the Labor Department said Thursday.
Economists surveyed by Dow Jones had been expecting a 2.9 million increase and a jobless rate of 12.4%. The report was released a day earlier than usual due to the July Fourth holiday.
The jobs growth marked a big leap from the 2.7 million in May, which was revised up by 190,000. The June total is easily the largest single-month gain in U.S. history.
Alabama students throwing ‘COVID parties’ to see who gets infected: Officials
Tuscaloosa City Councilor Sonya McKinstry said students have been organizing “COVID parties” as a game to intentionally infect each other with the contagion that has killed more than 127,000 people in the United States.
She said she recently learned of the behavior and informed the city council of the parties occurring in the city.
She said the organizers of the parties are purposely inviting guests who have COVID-19.
“They put money in a pot and they try to get COVID. Whoever gets COVID first gets the pot. It makes no sense,” McKinstry said. “They’re intentionally doing it.”

Horace Lorenzo Anderson Sr., the father of a 19-year-old black man who was shot and killed last month inside Seattle’s Capitol Hill Organized Protest (CHOP), publicly pleaded for answers on “Hannity” Wednesday night, saying police and Seattle Mayor Jenny Durkan have failed to reach out to him since his son’s death.
Anderson Sr. broke down in tears as he recalled learning of his son’s death.
“The only way I found out was just two of his friends, just two friends that just happened to be up there and they came and told me,” he said.

Jeffrey Epstein’s confidant Ghislaine Maxwell arrested on sexual abuse charges
Epstein’s former girlfriend and accused madam was taken into custody at 8:30 a.m. in Bedford, N.H., the FBI confirmed to Fox News. She had purportedly been hiding out in Paris, France before her arrest.
Maxwell, the daughter of late British media magnate Robert Maxwell, has been accused in civil court filings of facilitating a sex-trafficking operation that brought girls — some as young as 14 — to Epstein’s Manhattan home, though until Thursday she had not been formally charged with any criminal wrongdoing.
While there have been reports that there were several others who “facilitated” Epstein’s alleged sexual abuse also being investigated, the main focus has been on Maxwell.
One-third of Toledo’s City Council arrested on bribery, extortion charges
“As alleged in the Complaint, four Toledo City Council members and a local attorney have been engaged in a pay-to-play scheme involving bribes for Council votes,” U.S. Attorney Justin Herdman said in a statement to Fox News Wednesday.
“Maintaining the public’s trust in its elected officials is one of the Department of Justice’s core responsibilities.”
The FBI started its investigation into the Toledo City Council members in 2018 for allegedly soliciting or accepting money or other things of value from local businesses in exchange for their votes.
Harper reportedly solicited nearly $16,000, the largest sum out of the council members. She also faces charges of unlawful interstate communications with the intent to extort.

But the disclosure is missing from the video testimonial Easley provided for the Biden campaign, in which she says the administration made “everything worse.”
Dr. Fauci getting pushback from across the political spectrum
Dr. Fauci said little to nothing during riots and memorial services where rioters and attendees refused to social distance. Those events did not meet with his public disapproval.
But the president’s upcoming 4th of July Mount Rushmore celebration does. The double standard against the president is glaring.
Fauci is also cautioning on public events in Florida, Arizona, and Texas. Perhaps not coincidentally, all those states are GOP states or GOP-leaning battleground states.
This further erodes public confidence in the physician’s credibility.

Venezuela security operations leave over 1,300 dead in five months, U.N. rights office says
Michelle Bachelet, who presented a 17-page report on Venezuela in Geneva, said “I am still concerned about the high numbers of deaths of young people by security forces,” referring to people who were said to have died while resisting authorities.
Venezuela’s official figures show 6,710 homicides in 2019 and 1,363 between January and May of this year.
Those figures “do not include violent deaths in the context of security operations classified as ‘resistance to the authority,’” said Bachelet, a former president of Chile.
Death toll rises to 26 in Mexican drug rehab center attack
IRAPUATO, Mexico (AP) — The killing of 26 people in an unregistered drug rehabilitation center in central Mexico is the deadliest such attack in a decade and has led to calls for change in a prosperous state that has become a cartel battleground.
Police in Guanajuato state said Wednesday’s attack occurred at a modest two-story house on the outskirts of Irapuato.
Apparently the attackers shot every male at the rehab center, letting only the females go.
Analysts: Fire at Iran nuclear site hit centrifuge facility
The Atomic Energy Organization of Iran sought to downplay the fire, calling it an “incident” that only affected an under-construction “industrial shed,” spokesman Behrouz Kamalvandi said.
In Washington, the State Department said that U.S. officials were “monitoring reports of a fire at an Iranian nuclear facility.”
“This incident serves as another reminder of how the Iranian regime continues to prioritize its misguided nuclear program to the detriment of the Iranian people’s needs,” it said.
