7 killed in Border Patrol car chase after vehicle crashes into trailer, Texas cops say
The crash is “believed to be one of the deadliest in El Paso history,” KVIA reported.
A Chevy Cruze carrying 10 people fled from Border Patrol around 2:17 a.m. Thursday, El Paso police spokesman Sgt. Robert Gomez said in an interview live streamed by the El Paso Times.
The car was torn in two and taken away by two tow trucks, according to the El Paso Times.
Chaos erupts in Milwaukee during search for missing girls: Unruly mob hurls bricks at police officers, burns down home, shoots 2 teens
Officers arrived at a Milwaukee-area home searching for two missing teens. The teens were reportedly last seen at the home, which people in the crowd said was a known sex-trafficking hotspot.
According the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel, the gathering crowd included a “mix of neighbors observing the situation, people expressing frustration with police, and activists who’d marched in Milwaukee’s racial justice protests.”
WISN-TV reported that people in the crowd began “throwing bricks and pieces of concrete at police.” Someone or multiple someones also began firing guns in the crowd, striking three people.
College Rebranding Student IDs After ‘Freedom Cards’ Deemed Dehumanizing
Rising RMU senior Melanie Hall published a Change.org petition on June 11 that said using the term “freedom” on the cards made minority students feel “dehumanized.”
“Gifting us with IDs that grant us our ‘freedom’ is of extremely poor taste,” the petition said. “Especially coming from a university that is named after a slave owner.”
The petition received 130 signatures, just over 3 percent of the school’s 4,000 enrolled undergraduate students.
Microsoft promises black hiring quotas to fight racial injustice
Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella made the announcement in an email to employees Tuesday, in which the executive promised that the company’s leaders are “committed to take action to help address racial injustice and inequity, and unequivocally believe that Black lives matter.”
The CEO then said that the company will “double the number of Black and African American people managers, senior individual contributors, and senior leaders in the United States by 2025.”
He added that the company will invest an additional $150 million into its “diversity and inclusion” efforts within that time frame.

Supreme Court hands Trump administration win on deportation powers
The ruling means the administration can deport some people seeking asylum without allowing them to make their case to a federal judge.
The 7-2 ruling applies to those who fail their initial asylum screenings, making them eligible for quick deportation.
The Trump administration is seeking to expand authority so that people detained anywhere in the U.S. and up to two years after they got here could be quickly deported.
On Tuesday, a federal appeals court threw out a trial judge’s ruling that had blocked the expanded policy. Other legal issues remain to be resolved in the case.
Minneapolis neighborhood that vowed not to call police in wake of Floyd death is already being tested by 300-strong homeless encampment
Traffic has reportedly increased in the neighborhood around Powderhorn Park, as drug dealers seek to meet their clientele displaced during the civil unrest, rioting and looting following Floyd’s death at the end of May.
At least one person overdosed inside the park and was brought out by an ambulance. Prostitution has also been reported in the area.
Residents though have agreed to “check their privilege” and “protect people of color” by not involving law enforcement to report instances of property damage, according to the New York Times.
NYC protesters spend 2nd night camped out in front of City Hall, demand $1B cut to police budget
The group of about 100 protesters, calling themselves “Occupy City Hall,” gathered at a nearby park around 5 p.m. Tuesday and haven’t left.
They have vowed to stay until their demand to slash one-sixth of the New York Police Department’s $6 billion budget is met.
The protesters say the money saved should be redistributed to social and community services as well as health care and education.

Hartwig was employed by Cognizant the same third-party company reported earlier this week to have contracted with Facebook to conduct content moderation.
Cognizant content moderators are called “process executives” and they use Facebook’s review queue to adjudicate whether a post or comment should be allowed, taken down or escalated to a supervisor.

Twitter’s Brazen 2020 Election Interference Will Eventually End In Banning Trump

Dorsey will come up with a pretext, however absurd or cynical, as part of Twitter’s ongoing efforts to interfere in the 2020 election.
It will probably consist of a charge that Trump has had one too many violations of some entirely subjective and impossible-to-define Twitter policy on abusive or harmful speech.
We got another preview of what that might look like this week when Twitter once again appended a warning label to a Trump tweet that apparently violated Twitter’s policy against “abusive behavior.”
What did Trump say that was abusive? He said there would never be an “autonomous zone” in the nation’s capital, and that any mob trying to take over D.C. streets would be met with “serious force.”
California residents will have the chance in November to repeal state’s affirmative action ban
California’s Proposition 209, passed in 1996, forbid public authorities from granting preferential treatment to “any individual or group on the basis of race, sex, color, ethnicity, or national origin.”
The rule applies to both government authorities and public institutions of education, including higher education.
The policy has survived numerous legal challenges, including two trips to the state supreme court and a 2012 challenge struck down at appeal.
Yet California Assembly Constitutional Amendment No. 5, passed by the State Assembly earlier this month and by the State Senate yesterday, would if passed by voters in November repeal the 1996 provision and once again permit public officials to practice effective discrimination in hiring and admissions policies.
‘I hope it’s true’: Trump responds to claim he was chosen by God

As Trump seeks reelection, the president pointed to his evangelical base, saying he was “so honored” when evangelist Franklin Graham revealed his father, the late Rev. Billy Graham, voted for him after a Christianity Today editorial called for his removal in December.
“There’s a lot of hidden support. People in our country that don’t riot, don’t protest, that don’t, you know, they work hard,” he said.
“They’re smart, they have everything, but they were forgotten by the politicians. They showed up in ’16. I think they’re going to show up in larger numbers in ’20.”
House Dems Unanimously Block Resolution Condemning Violence and Rioting
Rep. Jim Jordan (R., Ohio) spoke in favor of the resolution, arguing that while Floyd’s death was “wrong as wrong could be,” there is a “big difference between peaceful protest and rioting.”
Jordan also spoke against defunding the police, calling it “one of the craziest public policy proposals I have ever seen.”
No House Democrats voted in favor of Steube’s resolution. Rep. Justin Amash (I., Mich.) voted with Republicans to support the measure.
While major cities across the United States have already proposed or approved slashing police budgets, decades of research indicates that better-funded police departments drive down crime and create social benefit.

Clinesmith’s work on the Clinton probe earned him an entire section in a separate IG report on the Clinton investigation, which found that he sent numerous politically charged messages ridiculing then-candidate Trump.
After Trump was elected in November 2016, Clinesmith wrote to another attorney, “I’m just devastated.”
ABC, NBC, CBS newscasts skip Democrats opposing GOP-authored police reform bill
NewsBusters analyst Nicholas Fondacaro wrote that ABC, NBC and CBS “completely ignored how Senate Democrats sank the police reform legislation,” noting that “Fox News Channel’s ‘Special Report’ wasn’t trying to hide the truth from their viewers.”
“Anchor Bret Baier addressed the death of the bill during the panel discussion with Axios reporter Jonathan Swan and Wall Street Journal columnist Kimberley Strassel,” Fondacaro wrote.
The procedural vote on whether to start debate was 55-45; it needed 60 votes in order to proceed. Republicans had 53 votes, but not enough Democrats joined them.
The decision essentially froze police reform in Congress for now, even if the House approves its own measure on Thursday.

Pompeo: EU and U.S. must work together on China threat
Pompeo said he had accepted a proposal by EU foreign policy chief Josep Borrell to create a formal U.S.-EU dialogue on China.
“There is a transatlantic awakening to the truth of what’s happening,” Pompeo told a think-tank event via video link. “This isn’t the United States confronting China, this is the world confronting China,” he said.
Pompeo, who said he would travel to Europe soon to host the first session, said that the EU must stand up to Beijing who he says abuses the rules-based trading system and steals intellectual property.

Beaches in Bournemouth and Brighton were crammed with sunbathers flouting social distancing rules on what meteorologists confirmed as the hottest day of the year.
The temperature hit around 92 degrees Fahrenheit (33.3 Celcius) at London’s Heathrow Airport.
Laura Miller, a local councilor, told the Guardian that when attempting to turn people away, she’s “been shouted and sworn at and one guy spat at me.”
“These are people who have traveled three or four hours in their car, they are hot and grumpy, and then they are turned away,” Miller said. “Some drivers have ignored our barriers and just knocked them over and driven through.”

3) Lebanon’s Hezbollah is impeding on efforts of the Beirut government’s to bring about much needed reform, further distancing the country from prospects of an international economic bailout.
Congo Announces End to World’s 2nd-Deadliest Ebola Outbreak
The milestone was overshadowed, though, by the enormous health challenges still facing Congo: the world’s largest measles epidemic, the rising threat of COVID-1, and a new Ebola outbreak in the north.
“We are extremely proud to have been able to be victorious over an epidemic that lasted such a long time,” said Dr. Jean-Jacques Muyembe, who coordinated the national Ebola response and whose team also developed a new treatment for the once-incurable hemorrhagic disease.
The announcement initially was set for April but another case emerged just three days before the Ebola-free declaration was expected.
