Despite COVID-19 Lockdowns, Licensed Marijuana Sales Continue in the Vast Majority of States With Legal Pot

Harvard And Other ‘Well Endowed’ Colleges Face Backlash For Tapping Tens Of Millions In Stimulus Funds

As part of the $2 trillion Coronavirus Aid, Relief and Economic Security Act (CARES), $14 billion was set aside to support higher education institutions – ostensibly those without billions already in the bank.
Harvard, for example, which has a $40 billion endowment, will receive $8.7 million in federal aid.
Harvard points out that at least half of which has been mandated for emergency financial aid grants to students, which we would note that they can cover themselves.
Nevermind the decade-plus these universities have been enjoying inflated tuition thanks to $1.6 trillion in student loans which may be about to default – which will undoubtedly stick taxpayers with an even larger bill.
California Law Limiting Independent Contractors is Hindering Coronavirus Response, Experts Say

They argue that the law has impeded the state economy and burdened health care systems already strained by coronavirus.
Many hospitals, particularly in rural communities, rely on independent contractors to provide health services, as they lack the resources to support full-time employees.
And as thousands of Californians face unemployment due to the pandemic, AB5 makes it nearly impossible for workers to take on temporary jobs from home.
Lawmakers at both the state and federal level have called on Newsom to suspend AB5 until at least the end of the pandemic.

Maryland Republican Party Chairman Dirk Haire got wind of Foxwell’s post and called on Franchot to fire his chief of staff, WJZ reported.
“I hope you agree with me that Mr. Foxwell’s statements suggesting the genocide of President Trump’s supporters are extraordinarily inappropriate and representative of a base and destructive mindset,” Haire wrote, the station said.
“A review of Mr. Foxwell’s Facebook page shows many similar posts by Mr. Foxwell.”
Shake Shack Hands Back $10 Million Loan After Small Biz Program Runs Out Of Funds

The move comes after the PPP, which is overseen by the Small Business Administration, ran out of funds last week.
Larger food service operations, such as Shake Shack, faced backlash for receiving sizable PPP loans while smaller, local businesses struggled to secure loans through the program.
In an open letter released Monday, Shake Shack CEO Randy Garutti and chairman Danny Meyer wrote that company decided to return the loan because they are “fortunate to now have access to capital that others do not.”
Garutti and Meyer also criticized the PPP application process in the letter, arguing that many restaurants couldn’t receive funds from the program because applying for it “came with no user manual and it was extremely confusing.”

And that means sometimes making sure the enforcement is there to educate and make clear we’ve got to have social distancing.
De Blasio said “it’s as simple as taking a photo,” adding that photos of violators along with their location can be texted to a city number.
“We will make sure that enforcement comes right away,” he said.

Police told the station that an altercation between several juveniles led to that shooting, although nobody was hurt and the suspects involved fled the scene before officers arrived.
However, during the investigation, police discovered the people inside the home rented it out earlier this month through Airbnb because they wanted to have a party, WTVT reports.
Investigators then confronted Cuervo, who reportedly claimed she wasn’t aware of Gov. Ron DeSantis’ executive order stating that “vacation rentals are prohibited from making new reservations or bookings and shall not accept new guests for check-in” during the coronavirus outbreak.
Protesters, lawmakers to demonstrate in Pennsylvania capital against stay-at-home order: ‘Not sustainable’

The demonstration, planned for noon on Monday, comes after state Republican lawmakers passed a bill last week that would mandate the state follow federal guidelines offered by the Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA) on which workers should be considered “essential,” rather than the more strict order the Democratic governor currently has in place.
Wolf is expected to veto the bill, but protest organizers say they hope for a loosening of restrictions starting on May 1.
One of the planned speakers Monday is Rep. Aaron Bernstine, a Republican from the western part of the state, who has said he is concerned about potentially overbearing orders from state governors infringing on peoples’ rights. He will be joined by Republican Rep. Russ Diamond.
Facebook won’t allow promotion of protests ‘that defy government’s guidance’ on social distancing

“Unless government prohibits the event during this time, we allow it to be organized on Facebook.
For this same reason, events that defy government’s guidance on social distancing aren’t allowed on Facebook,” a company rep told Fox News.
California, Colorado, Tennessee, Illinois, Florida, Montana, Wisconsin, Washington, Texas, New Hampshire, Maryland, Nevada, Idaho, Minnesota, Kentucky, Utah, Oregon, North Carolina, Ohio, New York, Virginia, Michigan and Oklahoma have all seen some type protest of stay-at-home mandates and policies.

McConnell Tears Into Democrats For Continuing To Delay Funding For Paycheck Protection Program

“It’s now been four days since the Paycheck Protection Program ran out of money.
Republicans have been trying to secure more funding for this critical program for a week and a half,” McConnell said in a statement Monday.
“At this hour, our Democratic colleagues are still prolonging their discussions with the Administration, so the Senate regretfully will not be able to pass more funding for Americans’ paychecks today”
Nunes Says Investigators Are ‘Laser-Focused’ On Information The CIA Gave FBI For Russia Probe

Nunes did not elaborate on the specifics of what he is interested in exploring, but he referred in his interview to new revelations about the Steele dossier, which the FBI used to secure federal authority to wiretap former Trump campaign aide Carter Page.
He also cited an intelligence community assessment produced in the waning days of the Obama administration, which asserted that the Russian government interfered in the 2016 election specifically to help Donald Trump.
U.S. Attorney John Durham, who is investigating FBI and CIA activities in 2016 and 2017, is reportedly investigating the CIA’s role in crafting the intelligence community assessment.
Durham has sought records for former CIA Director John Brennan, The New York Times reported.

‘Pelosi’s Layoffs’ — McCarthy Rips Democrats For Holding Up Deal For Coronavirus Aid

“Last week we watched 5 million people — new numbers — for unemployment. How many more millions of Pelosi’s layoffs will we have to endure before she will put people before politics?,” McCarthy said on Fox News.
“We could have been done yesterday, but the Democrats continue to hold up, even though we have agreed to all the numbers,” McCarthy continued.
“Instead of work together, she has tried to fight every element. Again, name me one thing the Speaker has accomplished that is productive during this pandemic. All she has ever done is criticize,” McCarthy said.
Democratic Governors Push ‘Radical Agenda Of Abortion On Demand’ During Coronavirus, Pro-Life Group Says

The pro-life organization — which is backing President Donald Trump’s 2020 campaign as part of an effort with a $52 million budget — pushed back at Democratic governors Monday for “using this time of crisis” to pass abortion legislation.
The Susan B. Anthony List (SBA List) also noted that attorneys general and other state officials are pushing for the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) to relax safety restrictions on abortion drugs.
“By prioritizing abortion facilities and allowing them to stay open, they are allowing businesses like Planned Parenthood to divert the PPE that is sorely needed on the front line of this fight.”

“Here it is plain and simple: People have to feed their families. These are smart Americans who are intelligent.
They understand there’s a risk. They live with risk every day.”

Covid-19 deaths in France surpass 20,000 as hospitalisations continue to fall

Prime Minister Edouard Philippe told a news conference on Sunday that falls in the number of people in intensive care were one of the encouraging signals that pressures on hospitals were easing.
But he shut down any expectations that the gradual exit from confinement in May, due to start with the reopening of schools, would allow people to move around or interact as before, especially as a vaccine against the virus was still far off.
“It won’t be a return to normal life,” Philippe said, adding that as France introduces more testing, people with coronavirus would have to remain isolated at home or in hotels laid on by the government.
“From May 11, we will enter a second phase, when we will regain some of our freedoms.”

Germany opens some shops as Merkel warns of second wave of coronavirus

Photograph: Martin Meissner/AP
Several European countries took preliminary steps on Monday towards a return to normal pre-virus life, with some shops reopening in Germany and a resumption of school for pupils slotted to take place next month.
Bookshops, florists, fashion stores, bike and car outlets and other shops smaller than 800 sq m were permitted to reopen on Monday morning.
In Berlin a few schools allowed final-year students to sit exams. Pupils arrived wearing face-masks and took their seats at widely spaced desks.
Angela Merkel, however, warned of a possible second wave of coronavirus infection if lockdown measures were abandoned too rapidly.
The chancellor urged citizens to stay “determined” and said it would be a “crying shame” if the country which has been praised for its deft handling of the crisis fell into a “relapse”.
Another Reason To Ditch The World Health Organization Is Its Shocking Sex Propaganda For Kids

What is less well-known is the WHO’s alliance with organizations that promote what they call “sexual rights” for children, which can be better understood as an encouraging sexual behavior and ideas from an extremely young age.
In more recent decades, however, the WHO has become an avid supporter of the push to sexualize children and of Comprehensive Sexuality Education, which exploits children to alter sexual norms.
On the WHO’s official website, International Planned Parenthood Federation (IPPF) is listed as one of the WHO’s major partners. Planned Parenthood is one of the largest world abortion providers.
Additionally, the names and logos of top-tier UN agencies, including the WHO, all appear on the front cover of UNESCO’S “International Technical Guidance on Sexuality Education” published in January 2018.
This document — posted on the WHO website — is laced with references to childhood sexuality, including these statements:
Netanyahu and Gantz agree to form unity Israeli government

“An agreement for the establishment of a national emergency government is now being signed,” the joint statement said.
Netanyahu and Gantz, a former army chief, have been negotiating on a rotation deal under which they each serve as prime minister for two years of a four-year term.
The statement did not provide details of any agreement.
Many had expected the stalemate to continue, following three back-to-back elections that produced similar results and with little progress made between the two rivals during months of talks.

Senator: How Much Longer Will People Comply With Lockdown? | Marco Rubio | POLITICS | Rubin Report
Dave Rubin of The Rubin Report talks to Marco Rubio (Senator from Florida) about when he expects the lockdown to end and how we should reopen the economy.
Marco also expresses his concerns for people’s frustration with the lockdown and realizes that soon people will simply stop complying with the lockdown orders.
Rubio shares why a federal one size fits all approach is not a good way for states to solve this crisis.
Marco sees federalism as a huge benefit in this situation because each state can make actions that are appropriate for its citizens.
He also thinks that we need to balance public health and public safety with our economic needs as well. Marco also discusses the SBA (Small Business Association) and their plan to help small businesses keep their employees on the payroll through government backed loans.
Marco also discusses China and how we need to rethink our dependence on them for low cost manufactured goods.
